My heart always leaps when I see you have started a new story.
I am loving this one. Trying to figure out this mystery is fun...though, I'm not very successful. I have a feeling that the ending will be completely different that what I expected. All the more the fun. The suspense you have created is palpable.
I'm also glad to read that you will be finishing 'During a Journey in the Dark'.

Peace,
Beverly

Author Reply: Hey Beverly,

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story! As for the mystery...well, it gets a little twisted and convoluted. So if you don't follow it, that's probably my fault. ;) And thank you for your words about suspense in this story. That's something I struggle with, so I'm grateful you feel that suspense is alive and intact. I was hoping it would be. Thank you again and I hope you continue to enjoy!

I am sensing so much more to this story than you are revealing!!! I wonder what will happen in the next 3 chapters. I also love your long chapters, this way each update does not feel hollow and unsatisfying :) I really like your characterizations of Faramir and Legolas, not many Faramir fics out there.

As for your other stories, I would love to know the endings of many of them, I really hope you'll get them up someday, but your ratio of complete stories to incomplete is pretty good, so I won't worry too much. I just hope you'll keep writing and not disappear without warning like many great ff authors :)

All the best!

Author Reply: I'm so glad you like the long chapters because I've never figured out how to write short chapters. ;) Far too long-winded for that. And I'm thrilled you're enjoying the Faramir and Legolas characterizations. I think they would have found much in common with one another and become very good friends. That's just me, though. Thank you for your review!

Well, Faramir can be very manipulative. If you are going to be in politics, then there is not other way. I have been thinking, what does he fears? Fire for sure, no a big mystery there. The other thing that he will fear, I believe, is become his Father, because his madness, but in denying his Father, he is rejecting all the good things that Denethor did, he was a good Steward and held Gondor safe for a long time, enough time for Aragorn to claim his Kingdom. In fact, I always thought that Gondor did much better that the Northern Kingdoms only because the Stewards. So, it was unjust to forget all about his hardwork because Sauron defeted him at the end, after years of struggle and afflicted with so much grief.
Ok, I just got carry away, you can see that I love this story. I will wait for more updates and try not to speculate too much.

Author Reply: No, get carried away all you want. You're pretty much right on track. My congratulations! Keep up the great detective work!

I hope you liked manipulative!Faramir. He was fun to write, in any case, and I figure he can play the political games along with the best of them. He is Denethor's son, after all. And I love your thoughts on the Northern Kingdom vs the Southern Kingdom. The Stewards really did make a big difference. Thanks for the review!

This is so creepy; anything can be in that place. Scary, spooky....You should not be afraid to write Faramir, you do it wonderful, better than the movies a thousand times, IMHO.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for your encouragement on writing Faramir! I'll have to take him out for a test drive again some day. And thanks again for the review!

Love everything, reallY! As i have left a comment on your LJ-- i'll leave some more thoughts here-- I like this mystery and this chilling atmosphere that you have set up.
I like the camaraderie between Legolas and Faramir. It is also funny how you mention that Gimli's name means "little fire"-- is that canonical or not? Either way-i like the conversation regarding it. :)
Looking forward to more! Want to know if Faramir dreams again (and if so what details will he be left with then???)

Author Reply: Hey again! I just finished responding to you in LJ and was excited to find you here, too.

I'm so glad you like the chilling atmosphere, and I'm even more thrilled that you like Legolas and Faramir. They were a lot of fun to write together.

In letter #297, Tolkien says Gimli's name is probably from Old Norse where "gim" means "fire." It's been later suggested that "Gimli" is the diminutive form of "gim," which makes him a little fire. I liked the thought, so I went with it. It should also be noted that "Gimli" means "star" in Adûnaic, but since Gimli clearly isn't Númenórean, there probably isn't a connection.

And Faramir definitely dreams again. A lot. ;)

Thanks for the review!

Wow! What a chilling chapter. I sense some foreshadowing here. I also really love your characterizations of Legolas and Faramir; both of them have their own uniqueness in your stories, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I am immensely enjoying this story and also very curious about the dream, it's funny that Gimli seems to be the one Faramir can talk to for answers in the dream, Legolas being a flighty elf and Gimli rooted as a dwarf. There seems to be some huge meaning in Faramir's dream and I'm excited to see what it is. Keep writing!

Unrelated, are you planning anything more with your unfinished stories such as "During a Journey in the Dark" and "A Land of Light and Shadows"? I know you must have your hands full with this story but it would be nice to see those finished sometime :)

Author Reply: Thank you so much for the review! The dream is VERY significant. The fact that some parts change and some don't is also significant, so your detective skills are working well. A bit of this will be explained next chapter, too.

As for other stories...both of the stories you mentioned have completed outlines and I'm working on completing chapters. But I don't want to post anything more until they're finished. I have no idea when that will be. LLS hit SUBSTANTIAL writer's block. The former I just haven't gotten around to in a little bit. Sorry about that! It's the best I can tell you.

AdrianneReviewed Chapter: 2 on 8/4/2011
Okay, you've got me hooked. What else is new?

It seems to me that the more Faramir ponders on the 'dream' in his waking hours the more he is able to assert himself within the 'dream'.

And the banners flying in no breeze, interesting and spooky. I don't know why but it reminds me somehow of 'The Paths of the Dead'.

Thank goodness you are posting chapter 3 tomorrow and that the story is complete. I would hate to be left hanging over a cliff in this one. . .

Brilliant, as usual.

Author Reply: There are plenty of creepy places in LotR, so I'm flattered that this one made you think of the Paths of the Dead. Thank you so much for your review! I'm thrilled you're enjoying the story!

Well does that elf know more than he is telling or what! This is sooooo.....creepy, I'll tell you I wouldn't be going into the fen or whatever. Ewwwww! Hugs The Imp P.S. I think I'm gonna have nightmares tonight!

Author Reply: Hope you didn't have nightmares! But I'm glad you're finding the atmosphere creepy. I'm always nervous about tones, so it was a relief to hear it came out as intended. Thanks for the review!

So glad, but so glad that you have posted a new story! And a very promise one! I love mystery and suspense. Great! And, of course, Faramir (books) is my favorite character. I'm re-reading the Hobbit now, because it is time for my daughter to discover the wonderful world of Middle Earth, so I'm starting to fall in love with the stories all over again and this time my daughter is with me, it remind me of how I learned about ME, with my dad, so many years ago….Looking forward for the updates

Author Reply: It's hard not to like Faramir. He's one of my favorites, too, but I sometimes shy away from writing him because he intimidates me. I hope you enjoy sharing ME with your daughter! That's such a wonderful thing to be able to pass down. Thank you for the review!

Laeriel OranorReviewed Chapter: 1 on 8/4/2011
Oh...this is very intriguing!!! What is it that he fears? Why is the dream happening? Why are Legolas and Gimli in the dream? Very good start, had me hooked and I can't wait for more!
