again a great story of you. I have only glimpsed at it but what I saw was great - as always. My job and the kiddies does not leave much time to read but I managed to start read "Elf Academy" and I like it very much. I laughed out loud yesterday at the train at Elrohir when he asked Glorfindel if he ate "Rudolph". The faces of the ohter travellers were priceless. I will drop a review when I find the time. I only wanted to let you know. A story of you is alwaays good to lift the mood. Thank you. Lai Author Reply: Hi Lai. A great second chapter. So Finrod has been told to discover the true meaning of Christmas. I suspect he will have many avenues to explore and somehow an exciting journey along the way. Thank you so much for this story. I am so happy to be hearing from "the gang" at the Academy, even though they are not all full of Christmas spirit. (not yet anyway.) I have been re-reading your stories and I find it uplifting when you remind us (or the characters) that the One is always there and we should seek to have hope. Enjoy the Holidays! A Quest and mischief - very good combination to help with the blues! Even more than the injury, I think encountering Middle Earth as it is now has taken a pretty good toll on him. He was a king; he is now less than a myth (well, except for in Wiseman). The adjustment from almost complete influence and authority to very little of either is tremendously disconcerting, even if you think you're ready for it - and especially when you have to pretty much re-learn everything! I think that discovering another king Who came without His crown is gong to be a very good thing for our dear Finrod. Author Reply: Hi Lyana. Yes, a quest and mischief are a good combination, especially for Finrod and Glorfindel. grin I think you're right about encountering the modern world taking its toll on Finrod and that on top of the shooting has him floundering a bit emotionally. We'll see how he adjusts and hopefully learning about another King Who came without His crown will help put things in perspective for him. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. hmm, gifts that can not be returned? Perhaps the gift of life? He will make a good elf guide as I am sure. The children will love him as we love thier energy and love of life. yay another chapter :) i really like how Finowë (dont think i spelt that correctly) described the naivety to Finrod. i don't think I've ever thought if it that what... and oh dear, what are Glorifindel and Finrod up to next? Author Reply: Hi ladyevenstar. Well Fionwë doesn't want to give too much away or else Finrod won't bother to find the answer as to just what the gift was. Atto, Very, very interesting...poor Finrod, feeling depressed and denying it - I sympathize. I was diagnosed with clinical depression at the age of 14 after my parents' divorce, and put on Zoloft. aside to Finrod No, my lord Finrod, you would not like the effects, especially if such medications affect Elves the same way they affect Mortal children who are technically too young to take them - or who have other medications to take that antidepressants should not be mixed with, as I did. back to Atto and Finrod both I became suicidal. I would not like to see that in Finrod. Luckily as a 14/15-year-old in my grandmother's house, the only method I had near me was smothering with a pillow (I wasn't very creative) and of course it never worked. I am glad of that - I'm sure it was Eru's interference, because He still cared for me. Vorondur is so right about people being depressed during the holidays - even though I stopped the medication and my depression and suicidal tendencies lifted, the depression seems to return on December 15 every year, the anniversary of my grandmother's death. Instead of taking medication or anything like that, I think I shall likely spend what time of it I have to myself in contemplative prayer and listening to Christmas music that actually cheers me. Perhaps Finrod would like Casting Crowns' "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day" - the Wiseman Elves can teach it to him in Quenya. :) I think that shall be my mainstay for next Saturday...Casting Crowns. Maybe I shall turn on 94.5 KBAY for the day - our local soft rock station that does Christmas from Thanksgiving Day onward. Anyway, sorry, I'm meant to be reviewing the story and I got carried away. I've established that I understand Finrod now, so, hmm... Well I for one love the idea of Finrod finding the true meaning of Christmas...wonder if he'll remember his debate/conversation with Andreth so long ago? I wonder if Eru Himself will speak to Finrod about it... And the Secret Santa idea is just wonderful :) I can't wait to see how that turns out! May your days be merry and bright, as another carol goes, Atto, and hopefully I haven't dampened it with all my rambling of my own Christmas-related issues. Here's my favorite part of "I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day" that you translated: Tá lamyaner i-nyelli ambë lámina ar núrë: Eru lá firin ar umë lorë; iRaicë lantuvar, i-failë ortuvar as sére Ardassë, mára indomë Atanin. My stepbrother committed suicide the week before Christmas, so I know where you're coming from. I'm glad you're still around, too. You should plan to go see the Hobbit next Saturday to take your mind of your grandmother's death. I'll be going to see it Saturday with friends myself. Well, if you want, I can gift a copy of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" to Finrod, it is the best way to explain what is Christmas about. Yes, sometime Christmas can be a depressing season, it is good that Finrod is surrounded by concerned friends. I can't wait for him to discover the Gift, he will be surprised. We steal each other gifts while playing Secret Santa, I'm not sure where we learned that. it is a lot of fun, at least in my family. Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. Maybe Glorfindel will have Finrod watch it on their dvd player. grin There are a number of ways to play Secret Santa. I think nearly everybody gets depressed at one time or another, the Holidays can be the worst though, especially if you are alone. Poor Finrod, hopefully the Task Fionwe has given him will bring him to an understanding of Christmas and the Mortals of this time. The Secret Santa game sounds like fun! Fionwe is devious. Setting Finrod a challenge is just what he needs, me thinks. After his injury, he is probably a bit home sick, and it seems he does not know what to do with himself. Hunting for the meaning of Christmas is tricky. I love the Secret Santa idea. Gives them all some fun things to do. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Fionwë is devious, setting Finrod a challenge. Finrod is feeling a bit lost and his injury, so different from the sort he's used to, has taken its toll on his emotional well-being, which others see but he doesn't.
