Wow Budge! Your work just gets better and better. This was such an intense chapter. Your whole plot is so carefuly planned and I love your idea of the Ring influencing the thoughts of the trees.

I'm so pleased that the forest is ganging up on the nasty men. I hope abandoning the horses - bridled, too - has just given Gandalf and Aragorn a better chance of catching up. Very enjoyable story.
Ariel · 11 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five
Oh, this is a fun adventure story! Thank you, Budgie! Nothing like some good old fashioned angst over coffee. *grin*
Jay of Lasgalen · 11 September 2004 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five
This is getting even more tense than before! I like the image of the trees' rising anger, but I fear it could be mis-directed. Will they attack Aragorn and Gandalf?
melilot hill · 20 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
This is great! I really like it. You're really good at plot-twists :)
lwarren · 17 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
I really like this story and was so glad to see Ch. 5! I always hate to see the poor elf left hanging! :-) This was great...the men were slimy, Pip was Pip and helps rein in Merry and get the rescue operation going, Legolas is hurt, as usual, but hears an ally getting really ticked off on his behalf (I cannot wait to see what "they" will do!), and Frodo gets to boss a Prince around! Wonderful! (...and of course, another evil cliffhanger!) linda
pebbles66 · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
I am enjoying this very much. I always love everything you write. I hope Gandalf and Aragorn catch up soon; I don't like those men's cruelty to poor Frodo and Legolas, and the horses, either.
Elendiari22 · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
Poor Legolas, being ordered around by Frodo. He should just resign himself to the fact that he's never going to win with hobbits. The part with Frodo's sling was great! I have the sneaking suspicion that if Frodo wanted to, he could just kill all of the men in their sleep with it. Morbid, that. Thanks for the great chapter!
Elenar · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
Great chapter. I loved how easily Pippin was able to sway Merry and I loved the conversation between Frodo and Legolas. I can't wait for more.
Manderly · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
I am glad to see another post in this story. I really like your characterizations - they are all so distinct. I can't help but feel sorry for Legolas. He must be totally out of his elements to be feeling so helpless. Great story so far!
shirebound · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
Budgie, this passage truly shows that Legolas *is* a prince, and a truly noble person: --But his life mattered little when weighed against the fate of the world. Against the burden that this little one bore. “When I swore to you at Elrond’s Council, I meant more than just the protection of my bow. I will gladly give my life to keep you safe.”-- I love how Pippin know how to melt Merry's heart! Wonderful, wonderful story.
esamen · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
Wow! I am so impressed! I just love this story. Never before have I seen so much great Legolas-Frodo interaction. I love all the great dialogue and description -- everything! You sure can write. And I just love angst . . . don't let Frodo get away unscathed, now . . . (evil laughter) . . . we have to have something for Sam to do when he catches up to them. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Bodkin · 15 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four
Nasty men. I hope the rescue party doesn't take too long to get there - Legolas does not look in a good way. Your hobbits are always that bit tougher and more resistant than normal. Frodo will be a lot more dangerous than those men expect if he is forced to do something. I would like to see Legolas being ordered round by a hobbit.
Elendiari22 · 13 August 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
Holy heaven to Betsey, Budgie! This is great! Very suspenseful, and I can tell that it's going to be an excellent tale. One of my friends mentioned to me today that she read it, and I realized that I hadn't yet! So, I read it and now I'm reviewing. :) I like that the hobbits are so tender with everyone. Their treatment of Legolas was so endearing. The men named Lando and Billeh made me laugh. For some odd reason, I immediately pictured Orlando and Billy. Did you do that on purpose? Your Aragorn and Gandalf are wonderful. I love how you write them. Looking forward to more! Thanks!

Lindelea · 24 July 2004 · Chapter 1: Chapter One
So glad you put the link to the picture in the prologue; it was one I hadn't seen before. I notice that the horses are on edge, too. So often they notice something amiss before the rider does. The character of the unseen hunters is chillingly drawn, little by little, in conversational clues. Without seeking more, Legolas knew that Merry had taken the outside position on one side, with Sam on the other. It has always been so, Aragorn had told him, since Weathertop. (A nice example of the meticulous detail to be found in your stories) I would welcome the opportunity to repay some of the pain they have caused (Be careful what you wish for!) The hobbits gazed innocently back. (ah, that innocent look. sure sign of trouble. surely Gandalf knows his hobbits well enough by now...?) I like the hints of Legolas' communion with the trees in passing, and the trees' response to him. Drat. Interrupted. Well, I will look on the bright side, and look forward to reading more, later.
Lindelea · 24 July 2004 · Chapter 0: Author's Note
O I do love Bev Doolittle's work. Have been saving this and a couple others of yours up for a quiet "reading" day and now I am settling back with my cup of tea, just ready...
Templa Otmena · 17 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
I am very excited about this fic. You've written the hobbits' and the elf wonderfully and I can't wait to see what happens next! UPDATE SOON!
Pearl Took · 17 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
Wonderful!! Exciting!! I'm all on edge, Pippin and I both with fire in our eyes. We'll go get those wicked men!! I'm loving this.
Lindelea · 14 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
Frodo using a voice Pippin had never heard before, such a nice touch. Merry whispering to Sam about the bathwater--perfect! Your writing is simply amazing, as always, and I look forward to the next chapter.
Elenar · 13 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
That was very exciting. I can't wait for more.
Elwen · 13 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
Frodo the thinker. I like that. He always came across as the thoughtful one in Tolkien's work and it's good to see you using that. Too many fanfic writers forget that he is a wise hobbit. And your Sam is so brave and determined. And some Legolas angst too. (That's not as good as Frodo angst, you understand, but I'm sure you won't disappoint me on that one. ;) )
shirebound · 13 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
Budgie, are you trying to keep me in a perpetual state of nerves and nail biting? Did Frodo keep Pippin from saying "Took" to the Men because Pippin would be a valuable hostage if they knew who he was? If so, that was incredibly quick-thinking of Frodo (and Budgie). Too much suspense... must have more... *starts munching on another nail*
Annis · 13 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three
Great! full of angst and suspense. I can't wait for more!
