Larner · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 31: It Helps To Have A List

I can imagine poor Frodo lying there giggling over Pippin's list, and feeling touched by it as well. And I feel for poor Merry, having to deal with Tookish logic in the middle of the night on the way home. Lovely moment.

Author's reply

There is nothing harder than trying to make sense out of someone else's troubles when you're exhausted yourself. Poor Merry is right. At least it did give Frodo a chuckle or two. Thanks for reviewing!

GamgeeFest · 13 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

Just adorable. I especially like the intro, and the "apology" scene between Merry, Berry and Pip. That was quite an adventerous breakfast, lol.

Author's reply

Funny thing about the intro, the story was written when I decided that it needed a bit of framing. It originally started with Merry and Berilac outside laughing. I put the intro on afterward and I am very glad that it worked! Breakfast is never dull with hobbits but this one does out-do itself a bit. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Anso the Hobbit · 12 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

Those lads! :D I absolutely love the conversation between Merry and Pippin on the end. They love each other so much. Lovely! :D

Author's reply

I suspected that Merry would have to get even for the prank with the box that Pippin managed to pull off and I also figured that Merry would be very creative with his pranks. Gald you liked it. In the end, they simply can't stay angry with one another.

Anso the Hobbit · 12 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out

LOL! One shouldn`t judge Fredegar too early, lol. He is smarter than he looks and Merry ought to know that. :D

Author's reply

It has been suggested to me by Dreamflower that Merry and Pippin owe Fredegar a prank for his part in this one. I might just have to take her suggestion. Glad you enjoyed this.

Anso the Hobbit · 12 May 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices

Excellent! and LOL! I haven`t read many stories about Merry`s tendency to fuss about his clothes but this was a great catch on it. Merry would really fold his waistcoats after colour, lol. And trust Pippin to show that he knows what he`s talking about when everyone else thinks he has nothing to say! This was truly lovely! :D

Author's reply

Thank you for the review! I did think that Merry might have a sense of style about him and that Pippin's sisters just might have taught him a thing or two about matching colors. I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Bodkin · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

H'mm. I don't think Uncle Doc is going to be very pleased with Merry and Berilac. Since he has a damaged teen who required extensive bathing; has been stung himself; has a very irritated wife plus an assortment of other annoyed lasses, including a Pansy traumatised by the sight of smallclothes; AND he has spent more attention on tween pranks over the summer than the real business of the Master, he might decide to make a real impression on these two persistent offenders. It might even be enough to deter Pippin from involving goats. Might. Perhaps.

Author's reply

It might, but then again, it would be lovely if the Master decided to help out with the goat idea, wouldn't it? LOL Now that would be quite a surprise for Merry and Berilac, won't it? Yes, all in all, I would have to say that Saradoc got the worst of this one. Thanks for reading!

shirebound · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

"Saradoc sighed deeply as if the weight of the Shire had come crashing down upon him. It seemed as if his entire job as the Master of Buckland this summer could be boiled down to being in charge of a group of rebellious tweens and one teenage Took. He had followed his lovely wife out into the garden with a blanket draped over his arm and a resigned expression on his face." He'd better get used to it! And I love how Pippin now feels like "one of the guys" to be included in such a prank. Such spirit!

Author's reply

Saradoc did have his hands full, didn't he? As for Pippin, you know how hard he tries to keep up with Merry so this latest adventure, even if it was a bit nasty, did keep him in on the action. Thanks for reading and reviewing this one.

cher · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

What a wonderful story!! I now have a mental image of Pippin in molasses and petals that will probably last for several days at least. I liked Merry wondering wht his mother knew about the behavior of trolls, and Pippin already planning the next battle of the war. Thanks so much.

Author's reply

Thank you! It is always nice to hear that the descriptions in one of these stories have left an impression. Naturally, Pippin will be planning his revenge after that one and after raising Merry, Esmeralda might have thought trolls wouldn't be that difficult. LOL Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Hai Took · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

That was spectacular! You had me laughing! you presented such a wonderful picture of what happened I was rolling! I know there were some things that I wanted to mention specifically but they became too numerous and unfortunately I lost track of them! Esmeralda in a state like that must have been something. At least Saradoc had sense enough not to try and reason with her at that point. That she got Merry and Berilac making them clean up because she knew it was then. Also I did like Merry wanting to ask her how she knew what troll behavior was like, but having the sense to realize it wouldn't be a good ideas at that time. Also all those lasses! Poor Posey was a bit shocked wasn't she? She must not have brothers, huh? At least Pip's sisters were willing to abandon their teasing in favor of trying to help Pippin get rid of the bees! That was too much fun. Maybe you should write some more about the prank war that took place that summer? I'm curious how many goats can fit into Merry's room as well ;)

Author's reply

Hey, so glad that you got a laugh or two out of this. I am also curious about the goats by the way. I just might have to write a bit more on this subject at some point in time. There may be more prank stories in the future. I never know what I might decide to write until I've written it! Thanks for the review!

TopazTook · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 30: A Sticky Situation

Oh, I know it's mean, but I was laughing harder and harder as the situation in the garden and on the terrace degenerated from bad to worse. (I know you won't let anything *too* bad happen to our lads, after all.) It was certainly funny to an outsider's p.o.v.! (One thing I just thought I would mention. If you are switching fonts or something, it makes your stories show up in really teeny tiny print so that I can't actually read them on SOA. I have to copy the text, paste it into a word processing document, then change the font and the point size to something larger. Not, of course, that I mind doing this for a G.W. story, but just thought you might like to know if it's something easily fixable.)

Author's reply

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this and thank you for all the trouble that you went to just to read it. I attempted to post this thing here four times and had problems with the font, with the spacing, and with the title which kept going away completely. This was my final effort and I am still not happy with it. I had much bigger font when I started out. Sometimes the format thing and I are at odds. At one point the font was two different sizes and it switched in mid-paragraph which I couldn't figure out at all. I hope to do better on the next one. LOL Not many readers will go to that trouble to read this thing. I am glad to see that this made you laugh however you had to read it!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out

LOL...that was great, too! Looks like Pippin got the upper hand on this wager! Most excellent Sunday, I should say! I think I'm ready for work tomorrow (cough, cough, choke, gasp). I think I shall need another story, but I'll shut up now so that you can write it. Have a lovely week! Pippinfan

Author's reply

Me? Write another one of these? I don't know about that. LOL Thanks for reading and I hope work goes well. I am not looking forward to going to my job tomorrow, but then, I never do look forward to it. I have a couple more of these to post here, but one of them is the one from the Challenge about the rabbit. The other is posted to my LJ, so it might be new to you. have a great week and thank you for all of the reviews!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 May 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices

LOL...I was already in a laughing mood, so just had to give this one another read! This is one of my favorites. Pippinfan

Author's reply

Repeat business! Thanks so much. You certainly have been reading a lot today! Glad you enjoyed this one again!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 May 2005 · Chapter 27: An Egg of A Different Color (An Easter Story)

“You got these eggs from some strange duck that you don’t even know?” Pippin asked, narrowing his eyes. “Look, what do you expect, that I went up to the duck and introduced myself first?” Merry sighed. ROTFLMBO....LOL...*gasps for air*... oh, that felt good!! I'm laughing so hard, people in this apt complex must think I'm nuts. Okay, so I am! This was hilarious! You have a wild imagination--thank you for sharing it. Pippinfan

Author's reply

That was my version of 'colored eggs in the Shire'. So glad to hear the it "cracked you up". That was "egg-actly" what I was hoping for when I wrote this. Sorry, but I had some left-over egg jokes and didn't want them to go to waste. Thanks for the review!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 May 2005 · Chapter 26: Fire in the Hole!

ROTFLMBO!!! I've said it before, and I'll say it again--you have a natural gift for making people (especially *me*) laugh through your wonderful hobbits--all four of them, but specifically, Merry and Pippin's love and banter...and yes, their squabbles. Thank you for sharing your lovely talent. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Oh, good! It made you laugh. This one is a bit that came up because of one of my 12Days challenge stories. It was the story for day 11 with the pipers and Pippin gave Legolas a bit of advice about smoking that led to this story. I went for the slap stick on this one. Nothing like the random misuse of fire to make folks laugh, is there? Thanks for reading!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 May 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry

Wait...let me wipe this tear burning my eye. Amazing. The love between these two hobbits is astounding...and you write it all so very well! This was a sad but sweet tale of the utter trust Pippin has in Merry. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing this lovely story. Pippinfan

Author's reply

Thank you for reading. I like to think that these two could always count on each other no matter what. Pippin must have been very trusting as a small hobbit and I suspect that Merry had to step in on more than one occasion. Glad that you enjoyed it.

Larner · 7 May 2005 · Chapter 26: Fire in the Hole!

Rube Goldberg, move over--Pippin is learning to smoke, and being taught by a Brandybuck! Hilarious!

Author's reply

My slap-stick story! But you know that old saying, "Where there's smoke, there's fire." LOL

Larner · 7 May 2005 · Chapter 25: There are Friends and then there's Merry

Sad words but true. Some friends.

Author's reply

Happens to most of us at one point or another and we realize exactly who we can count on and who we can't. Pippin got his lesson on this early.

Larner · 7 May 2005 · Chapter 24: Through the Eyes of Another

It was a bit of a shock to realize this was the pair on the way to Rohan and Gondor, but it was fitting. Thanks.

Author's reply

I like a surprise now and then. I also think that people tend to write older characters as being "all about their age" in a lot of instances. I like to think that there were times when their ages didn't matter. Tolkien does say that Merry was still hale when they set out on their journey. Glad you enjoyed this one.

Larner · 7 May 2005 · Chapter 23: Jingle Bells

My husband and his ex-wife were both blind, so they put bells on their son's shoes. As you noted, it only tends to work on very small children. Thanks for the memories!

Author's reply

I remember the little bells on the white stride-rite shoes on children just learning to walk and that was where part of this idea came from. I had never thought how practical it would be in a situation where the parents were blind. It must have been quite a help to them for a while at least. Thanks for reading!

Larner · 4 May 2005 · Chapter 17: The Wedding Table

He was fortunate the glue turned out to be water soluble. Lovely way for him to get loose. Lovely use for the Wedding Table.

Author's reply

My unusual stab at romantic fiction. I am glad that you enjoyed it. I may have to write more about the table later on. It has stuck with me somehow. LOL

Larner · 4 May 2005 · Chapter 16: The Story of Poor, Unfortunate Toffin

Seems to me I remember telling and hearing tales like that, back when I was also a child. Poor Merry.

Author's reply

I remember a few myself. If one could find a more trusting child to tell them to, all the better. LOL

Larner · 4 May 2005 · Chapter 15: Taller?

Ah, having to wait all that time! Lovely scenario to imagine!

Author's reply

I thought it might fit. Thanks.

Larner · 4 May 2005 · Chapter 14: Skirmish

THREE hobbits now stuck in the pantry until Sam gets there--and not only is he going to have to let them out, he'll probably end up cleaning up the bits Pippin misses, and then will go out, get more flour, and make the cake himself, won't he? Poor Sam. And he doesn't quite make it into the story!

Author's reply

Sadly, I do believe that I write Sam less than the other three because I worry about whether or not I am doing him justice. His slightly different speech pattern always makes me wonder if I have made him sound too simple or too formal. In other words, I am a coward when it comes to Sam Gamgee. I adore the character, but I never feel as if I have quite captured him in any of my fictions. Other than Legolas, he is the fellowship character that I write the least often. I do respect him enough to know that he wouldn't let himself get locked in the pantry with Pippin. LOL

Larner · 4 May 2005 · Chapter 8: Take Your Best Shot

Ah, just desserts! Lovely! Am still laughing.

Author's reply

Glad this gave you a laugh. They did get what they deserved, didn't they. Thank you so much for all of these lovely reviews. It is so nice to know that someone is still reading these.

Larner · 4 May 2005 · Chapter 7: Going Out

Remembering small child days, and the stubborness of two year olds at the moment. Poor li'l tyke.

Author's reply

Too young to follow along yet, but already planning on it. He did catch up later. There is nothing more determined than a small child.
