Saoirse · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
*snort giggle* GW I read this on your LJ, but I wanted to review it here. LoL about what Merry said about wanting to time Pippin so they could know how long it takes him so they could bet people and CHEAT! So very Merry! And of course, cheers to Pip for pulling the wool over Merry's eyes there. I'm sure that Merry was quite surprised -- the tables have turned! At least until the next rainy day...lol or dinner or something as I am sure Merry is already calculating a delicious comeback for his smart-aleck little cousin. But really, can Merry blame him? He did learn to be the trickster from the very best, after all ;) LoL another great story! :)
Author's reply
Yes, Pippin had an excellent teacher. Even if Merry did get fooled this time, he can still take a bit of credit for the entire plot. Thanks so much for reading this and I am glad that you enjoyed it. I never know when another of these little stories will crop up. Who knows? Maybe next time, Merry will get his revenge.
Marigold · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
This is wonderful! Very funny, and so perfectly in character, from Merry knowing the content of Pippin's pockets, to Merry timing him to earn some coin, to Pippin having the bet with Freddy! Well done!
Author's reply
Why, thank you. I am always amazed by the things that kids cart around in their pockets. I was sure that Merry had seen Pippin unload all of his treasures a time or two before this. They do know each other so very well. Thanks for the review and I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Andrea · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
Frodo grinned. "Your money is probably safe. Merry looked pretty angry." He'll forgive him, he always does ;-) That was really a nice twist! Familiar with various situations, where Merry always has to rescue his little cousin, you really took me by surprise. Merry should be more careful now: Pippin is growing and after all he has had the most skilful teacher in "mischief-making" - himself! Thanks for the story!
Author's reply
Glad you enjoyed the twist. I figure that Pippin can be the victim all of the time. If Pip had no skill for mischief after all that time with Merry, then I suspect that Merry would have become a bit bored with his little cousin. I like a surprise or two and Pippin is always something of a surprise. Thanks for reading and reviewing this.
stormscrystal · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
I loved this for the simple fact that Pippin finally got his own back because his older cousins almost always got the best of him. It was funny and you're right, when you are cooped up and bored, you do tend to think up crazy stuff.
Author's reply
Rain makes folks inventive doesn't it. I think that having spent so much time around the older lads, Pippin was bound to have picked up a trick or two along the way. He snuck up on Merry with this one.
Larner · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 12: Thinking Too Much
Bless the Took.
Author's reply
Can't have too many blessing. Bless you for the reviews.
Larner · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 10: A Soldier's Tale
Love all the commentary from the POV of the Lieutenant. Hilarious Love all the commentary from the POV of the lieutenant, and Pippin as a commander in his own right. Lovely, light moment. 1 A
Author's reply
Pippin had a way of making the soldiers tow the line. The Lieutenant better come to terms with that or he'll be out of the boat and swimming before his tour of duty is over. Glad you liked my attempt to "think like a toy soldier".
Larner · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 9: A Matter of trust
So--0Pippin is going to leave it to Merry to tell him WHEN not to go along with one of Merry's crack-brained schemes. Why do I see this as typically Pippin and setting himself up for more problems down the road? Bless the two of them.
Author's reply
it's the kind of control that you don't want to give someone else, isn't it? "Tell me when not to trust you." I could see Pippin going along with that when it came to Merry. Let's hope Merry doesn't abuse it too much.
Larner · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 2: A Nasty Turn of Events
It's been a while since I read this one. Still love it, with Merry and Pippin having to contemplate having to beg for help from Merry's rival and enemy. Poor Pippin is sometimes slow on the uptake, isn't he!
Author's reply
Thank you! I always love it when someone says that they have actually read one of these more than once. Thank you for the review!
Larner · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
Oh, but this is wonderful! Love it! Pippin the gambler.
Author's reply
Nice work if you can beat the odds. I did think that Freddy did a nice job as the shill on this one. Poor Merry.
Larner · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Ah, but I LOVE this one. Yes, the brother of so many sisters is going to know style and colors! Lovely moment between the three of them.
Author's reply
All of those sister had to be good for something, didn't they? I am quite sure that Pippin got his fair share of useful fashion tips while growing up.
pipinheart · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
Very nice...Pippin in a box,and he had Merry scared. But to find out he bet freddy he could trick Merry...Nice job...
Author's reply
Thank you very much! It is good to know that you enjoyed this.
Bodkin · 3 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
"I hate it when it rains," Freddy sighed. "One of you always does something of this sort when it rains and then there's some sort of trouble." What a sneaky little hobbit that Pippin is! Well, at least they'll be too busy to be bored now until it's time to eat. But it'll be Merry's turn to get even.
Author's reply
Hard to tell what Merry might come up with to get even. maybe the next time it rains, he'll get a chance. Thanks for the review!
Hai Took · 2 May 2005 · Chapter 29: Inside Out
lol! I guess they get into trouble anytime, but most probable when it rains? Wonderful! You always make me laugh! So Freddy knew what was going on and really tricked Merry into believing in a way. I liked all the things Pippin was taking out of his pockets! I'm very impressed with what some people manage to carry on their person, and it seems Pippin is one of those people- erm hobbits that can carry a little bit of everything! I especially liked the key that Pippin didn't know what it went to! Thanks for the laugh!
Author's reply
Thank you for the review and I am very pleased that this one made you laugh. You are always so sweet to review these. I thought if anyone had a key that went to nothing it would have to be Pippin. And as for Freddy, he was in on the set up, but he was hoping to win the bet from Pippin instead of the other way around.
good_one_pip · 2 May 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Oh, I love it! I can always trust to you to get a humorous, yet tender story perfectly matching the characteristics of our hobbits. Go on, let yourself be flattered. The story brightened up my day. Keep up with these Took-and-Brandybuck stories.
Author's reply
I am seriously flattered. Thank you! Nothing like a great review to brighten my day. And I am posting another one to this tonight. LOL
Saoirse · 30 April 2005 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
I love this one too Merry is so terribly vain lol, but he is hilarious. Though I do believe that he wouldn't have said anything at all to Pippin when he was going to leave if he really didn't want him to stay. This was my favorite line: '"What does the other half of the Shire wish?" "Why that’s easy, Pippin lad," Merry said. "They wish they were you so they could spend so much time enjoying my company." ' Cocky little sod. LOL. I'm sure of that. *snort* This one was great :) And this line, of course, was the sweetest, because we all know they adore each other to know end: '"Yes, you do, because you are my best friend." Merry whispered softly, closing his eyes. '
Author's reply
Thank you. Glad it made you laugh. I have always suspected that because he was older and came from a very well-off family that Merry could be full of himself at times and Pippin, being the younger and eager to please cousin would catch the teasing. Thanks for the review!
Saoirse · 30 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Bwahahahahha!!! O, GW! I *LOVED* this one! This has to my all-time favorite of all your wonderful stories...Ah! I just love it! Pippin's revelation at the end was *perfect*, I always imagined him to be savvy with the lasses because of his older sisters, and his reasoning was perfect, lol! And thi reminded me SO much of myself: ("Yes, I do," Merry said, frowning at him. "I don't leave my clothing scattered about the floor in small piles like someone I could name. I don't select my clothing by picking it up off of the floor and checking for stains or rummaging about in the bottom of my drawers for something that fits. I have my things organized. I don't go about smelling my things to see if I have worn them recently." ) LOL I am more of a Pippin than a Merry here with my clothing lol. I loved this bit: ' the chance to marry the only male hobbit in all of Middle Earth who folds his clothing." ' LoL. I am sure he's right. LoL and this: 'Not only will you be the best dressed hobbit in the Shire, but you are also the second best looking." ' Pippin's such a little prat. You characterized them all *perfectly* in this one, what with Merry's anal organization and Pippin's carelessness (though he does know what he's doing when he puts his mind to it -- though people may doubt this until they are witness to the scenario themselves) and Frodo's patience with both of them. LoL, great job! I noticed this one was up for an MEFA, and rightfully so! I will be sure to review it there too once the time comes. LoL great job... I am going to be thinking about this one for the rest of the day!
Author's reply
Thank you, thank you! This one came about in part because I am bad to buy the same item of clothing in several different colors just because I like it. LOL I am more like Pippin when it comes to putting things away neatly, but I think I shop like Merry. I always thought that the older sisters would have given Pip a bit more information than he might have wanted about matching colors, styles, and such. This did give him a chance to surprise both older cousins at times. Thank you so much for the lovely reviews and I have plans to vote for a certain story about 'Fairie Blood' and in fact, have done a tenative review.....LOL I look forward to more of your stories soon. Still re-reading "Tango" from time to time.
pipinheart · 21 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Very nice, and quiet amuzing...Merry and his waistcoats. You should think he is the best dressed in the shire. He can't decide which one to wear to ask Estella to marry him...Poor Pippin, finally had to take it into his own hands. And he pick the right one...A clever Took at that... Nice story, enjoyable read....
Hai Took · 19 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
That was great! Merry having all of those waistcoats and knowing where they all are. Such organization! Frodo trying to help and then not sure what was really best. I do admit I'm more like Pippin, dress for comfort! Of course Merry was about to ask a very important question it is probably a good thing he didn't show up looking like Pippin, although I'm sure it wouldn't convince Estella not to marry him. Such a wonderful piece, I loved hte humor! Thank you!
Author's reply
I am more like Pippin with my clothes too. I am something of a slob at times. I am so glad that you liked this one and I thank you for reading and reviewing it.
Andrea · 18 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
"...The chance to marry the only male hobbit in all of Middle Earth who folds his clothing." Oh my, I have tears in my eyes - from laughing! That's so funny! And seeing Frodo, who also puts a lot of thought on his clothing, being overwhelmed by the variety of waistcoats in Merry's wardrobe, that's really amazing! I always thought, that Merry is an extraordinary hobbit ;-)
Author's reply
There's no one in Middle Earth like Merry and certainly no one with more waistcoats. LOL Thanks for reading and I am very glad it made you laugh! I just love when that happens.
Bodkin · 18 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Very clever. I love picturing super-scruffy Pippin being an expert on style and taste, courtesy of three older bossy sisters, while Merry and Frodo go for the more garish colours. And Merry having stacks of waistcoats carefully colour coded by shade. (Does Estella know this? She might think twice about wedding someone so . . . organised.)
Author's reply
Estella may be in for a surprise at that. LOL At least he puts his things away. Trouble is Pippin will have to come by and advise him on which one to wear each day. Thanks for the review!
Mysterious Jedi · 18 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Merry should have known better than to not value his own Pip's advice! I found your story quite amusing. <>< Saved from sin through Christ, MJ

Glad this gave you a laugh and thank you for reviewing it!
Zahz87 · 18 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Just perfect. The banter between Merry and Pippin was great. Very believable. I love how Pippin knew what he was talking about and both Merry and Frodo staring blanky at him. Brilliant. Nicely done!
Author's reply
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes Pippin does surprise them, doesn't he?
PIppinfan1988 · 17 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
:D ROTFLMBO!!! You've outdone yourself again, Grey Wonderer! That was too funny!! I was rolling almost from the first through to the last! That belly laugh felt so good, too. Fantastic! Pippinfan
Author's reply
So happy that you got a laugh out of this one. I hadn't posted anything to Brandybuck and Took since Easter and I've had this little story for a while. Posted it on my LJ at one point and always meant to put it here too. Thanks for reading!
GamgeeFest · 17 April 2005 · Chapter 28: Important Choices
Folding clothes must be the Middle Earth equivalent of putting the toilet seat down, lol! Pippin cracks me up. Being raised by girls, and being the youngest (so you just know his sisters used him to model their clothes) he would know much more about these things than Frodo. He made a fine choice. Cute and funny as always.
Author's reply
Thank you! I have put Pippin in a dress in one of my stories already because I also believe that his sisters would have taken advantage on several occasions. Glad you agree.
