· Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
*chuckle* Good one, GW! "As slippery as a Took on ice..." has such a nice ring to it! So Bilbo wasn't the only one to coin phrases, huh? But there are so many other possibilities: "as firm as a Took stuck to a table"; "as frightened as a Took of chickens"; "talkative as a Took"; "as fond of tomatoes as a Took"; and let us not forget "as inventive as a Brandybuck" 8-D
Author's reply
You should do an entire book of these phrases! LOL Seriously, the one for Pip, "as slippery as a Took on ice", comes from an old saying of my grandmother's which is actually "as slippery as a hog on ice" or sometimes, just "like a hog on ice". I have no idea where the saying comes from or what it means, but she uses it from time to time and it seemed to fit for Pippin's situation. To take one from you, how about "as musical as a Took", or "as sneaky as a Banks"? Thanks for the review!

Oh, such tension! This was very well written, stretching the rescue out to an agonizing degree. I hope this teaches Merry a lesson. I knew he was in for it when he wouldn't turn away from those maps. I really like this chapter! :-)
Author's reply
This one is a bit longer and a bit more tense than the other ones in this group. I am glad that you liked it. Poor Merry, look at all he has to go through just to spend a few hours enjoying some maps with Frodo. LOL

This is so adorable, and quite a believable scene! I like to imagine little shivery Pippin waking up in bed to find Merry there with Frodo, and Pip feeling loved.
:)

I almost contiuned this one, but I decided to stop where I did with Merry taking care of Pip on the way to the Hall. Maybe at some point, I'll take it a bit further. Thanks so much for the review and for reading.

· Chapter 18: Snow and Ice
Oh this one was wonderful! Very different from your others, a bit of humor, but mostly some nice tension and danger. I did like the hobbit version of hockey, and I really enjoy your Fredegar--he's a very sweet and responsible young hobbit, and very good with Pippin. And Frodo's assessment of Merry, so on target--that he would do whatever it took to get to Pippin, even if it were a bit reckless. And finally the ending with Merry carrying his beloved Pip back, just so sweet! And *that* will teach Merry and Frodo to go looking at old maps when Pippin wants to play, won't it? So there!
Author's reply
Maybe the Shire should form a Hobbit-Hockey League now? LOL Thanks for reading and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

Oy! The things these lads get up to. I repeat, some day Pippin will learn to not trust Merry. Someday. Another very fun chapter. I'm enjoying this series a great deal. :)

Thank you! I figure that it was one interesting scheme or disaster after another with Merry and Pip. I suppose I will keep writing these until I just run out of messes to put one or both of them in. LOL

· Chapter 16: The Story of Poor, Unfortunate Toffin
Attack of the Killer Chickens! It sounds like a fifties horror movie, lol. Very funny. Poor, trusting Pippin. Some day he'll learn. He might be about 100 when it happens, but he'll learn, someday.
Author's reply
If Pip catches on, what will Merry do for fun? LOL As to the Chickens, well, I hear that the Shire was full of Killer Chickens back in the old days. That year when the river froze over and the wolfs got into the Shire, I think it was the chickens that ran off the wolves. hehehe

How sweet! I so wish someone would make a movie and show us how everyone lived after the quest!. Lovely story, very enjoyable reading!
Author's reply
Thank you. I very rarely try anything romantic, but this one just came to me. I had written a little bit about Pip meeting Diamond for the first time in a longer story "Many Happy Returns", but that story was mostly about birthdays past and present and the Diamond/Pip meeting was only a small part of it. Glad you enjoyed it and many thanks for the review.

Wow...I'm speechless...and melted all over my family room carpet from reading your steamy romance novel!!! I LOVED IT! Pippin's first kiss! I was wondering when Pippin was going to get up the nerve to plant one on her lips. Was she taunting him, or what? ;-) And naturally, I always love the banter between Merry and Pippin. Hope our Merry and Estella are next! Thanks for sharing.

That you for "sticking around" to read this one. LOL I got a bit carried away on this one, but I did stop before it went all NC-17 on me. I like to think that she was taunting him a tiny bit, but I believe it was worth it for him. LOL Glad you enjoyed it. Maybe Merry will glue someone else to something once he's perfected his mixture. (mad scientist that he seems to be in this one.)

· Chapter 14: Skirmish
only pippin and merry would get themselves stuck in a closet. It's not very often those two really fight, but I guess they had their moments too! LOL! It's funny that when girls fight, they just get upset and won't speak to each other for a long time, but when boys fight, they knock each other senseless, and they're friends again when it's all over. Merry's size compared to Pip didn't get the best of him this time!
Author's reply
Thanks for the review and I am glad you enojoyed this. I have always thought that boys do the fighting thing better. They get it over with and go on. I figure that once in a while Merry and Pippin had a bit of an arguement. I had the scene from the extended DVD of Two Towers in mind when I wrote this, the one where they are arguing over the Ent draught.

Oh, that is single-handedly the funniest Pippin-Merry story ever invented! It was a good thing I was home alone, or my whole family might have come running into the room to see what I was laughing so hard about (to the point of not being able to breathe!) So the paste was useful after all! LOL I love the scraps Merry and Pip get themselves into. Keep writing these little stories!

Merry rather lucked out there. Pippin would have strangled him if he wasn't so distracted. What a fun and lovely chapter. I love your characterization of Diamond, and her and Pippin are just too cute together.
Author's reply
Thank you. I almost posted this one on its own rather than with the Brandybuck and Took stories because it is about Diamond and Pippin, but I decided that since Merry played a major part in it all that I would post it in with these others. Thanks so much for reading!

Me, wicked? You heard what Frodo said, "This entire thing was Merry's fault." I just gave him a "little push out of the door."(Gandalf)

Tact, to Pippin, is a four letter word, isn't it?
I'm with Merry - pasting him to the table is a very good idea. Of course, it turned out to be an even better idea when the beauteous Diamond turned up to give him her assistance, and indulge in a little oral exercise.
By the end, Pippin must have been seriously grateful to Merry.
Author's reply
Oh, I believe that he was very grateful. LOL

Absolutely marvelous! I had a great laugh with that! Merry sticking Pippin to the table in the first place then all of Pippin's efforts to get un-stuck, I liked it best when he slid under the table and couldn't get back out! I guess he enjoyed being stuck to the table more than he thought he would ;) Thanks for the fun!

I think that pippin enjoyed his time with Diamond in spite of his embarrassment at being glued to the table by Merry. Glad that this gave you a laugh!

· Chapter 17: The Wedding Table
Oh dear! 8-) What an *unusual* (ahem) beginning to Pippin's and Diamond's courtship.
I love your Merry in this. He does tend to be a wee bit obsessive sometimes, doesn't he? A paste for wood, hmm? But Pip's changed a bit. Little Pip would have had the utmost faith in Merry's paste and never doubted for an instant that it was a brilliant idea just because Merry thought it up. Maybe one reason Merry got so angry is that he misses Pip's blind faith a bit. Still, he *was* on his way to rescue him, and had the sense not to, when he saw the results. LOL!
Very cute story, and thought provoking.
Author's reply
I don't think Pippin has changed too much really. He had just, unfortunately, seen the paste fail repeatedly for several weeks and was a bit out of patience with it all. I am sure that when Merry announced his intentions to make paste, Pippin believed that he could, but at nearly 31, even Pip would have to realize that Merry's paste was less than perfect. LOL
For some reason I just have this mental picture of Merry as the kid who got the chemistry set at Christmas. I guess it is all of his studies of herb lore and his organized personality. Once he let Pippin stew a bit, he planned to rescue him, but Pippin managed to find another way out of his troubles. The sweat from his nerves loosened the paste.
As I told someone else, I am not too good at romance-writing and so I decided to go a very different way with Pip and Diamond. It has the advantage of not having been tried before. Thanks for reading!

I have got to say that this is my favorite one of these yet! I read it the other evening, and didn't have time to review. I nearly died laughing. Then I showed it to Marigold, and the two of us sat in front of my computer and laughed ourselves to tears. Reading it the third time, and I'm still laughing so hard I can hardly stand it!!
I love this--I love the little framing story in Minas Tirith, and that they are telling Sam a story he hasn't heard before. I love the way Pippin's older cousins react to his attempts to garner sympathy.
And the chicken story!!! OMG!! You are so brilliant! Killer chickens, of all things! And Merry, traumatizing poor little Pippin like that, just wicked!
And of course, most brilliant of all, Merry getting his come-uppance from Pip all unknowing, just dear little Pip, so proud of his Merry for taking care of him, LOL!
I think I'm going to read it for the fourth time!!
Author's reply
Oh, so you're the one who's reading this one! LOL Glad you liked it. You never know how killer chickens will be received. They are a much-misunderstood farm animal. I decided that Sam would be the perfect one to hear this story. I am sure he missed some of Merry and Pippin's early adventures. I doubt that Pippin would have given Merry away on purpose, but in an attempt to brag on his dear cousin, he let the cat or chicken, as it were, out of the bag. So glad this gave you a laugh.
