"and so it begins" nice line! Though they don't know it, that's when it begins for Frodo, Merry, Pippin, and every other hobbit in the Shire...and there's Merry and Pippin arguing with each other (affectionately, of course) Cute, very nice chapter. Keep writing more, I love these stories!
Author's reply
Thank you for reading and reviewing them. I will probably keep this going as long as the ideas continue to come to me.
GamgeeFest · 8 November 2004 · Chapter 21: Hot Water
Movie-verse is ok. This was funny. I love their bickering and Gandalf's insights. Merry does always seem to be apologizing to Pippin doesn't he?
Author's reply
I always like to post a warning when I go with the movie because some really don't like stories based on the films. I like either if they are well written and interesting. Glad this gave you a laugh. Thanks for the review.
Bodkin · 8 November 2004 · Chapter 21: Hot Water
I love the Gandalf-ian point of view. He comes over as seriously fond of hobbits - especially wicked Tooks and Brandybucks. The way Merry and Pippin insult each other is a sign of true friendship - you really have to trust each other to be so deliberately aggravating.
Author's reply
I think Gandalf loved all of the hobbits very much but was just a bit too gruff with them most of the time for them to notice. I do like his sweet moments with Frodo in the books and with Bilbo too. As to the insults, yes they aren't the sort of thing that you would allow from just anyone. Only a close friend would put up with that sort of nonsense. Thanks for reading.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!! It brings a smile to the face and warmth to the heart :)

Oh, my heart! That was so sweet! You have Pippin pegged to a T (hehehe...for Took!)--and that eeever soooo charming Brandybuck lad! You paint a beautiful picture of a lovely, lazy summer day in Buckland with two dear hobbits taking their ease on the banks of the Brandywine...friends for life. Thank you for sharing! Pippiinfan
Author's reply
Thanks much for the review. This was one of my sarcastic-Merry moments. When I am feeling a bit smart-mouthed, then I let Merry do something like this. As you've probably guessed, I am feeling this way a great deal of the time. LOL
PIppinfan1988 · 6 November 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
What a cute picture--Merry and a four-year-old sticking tongues out at each other! LOL Slippery as a Took...wreckless as the Master's son... A lovely moment in the lives of our favorite hobbits! Thank you for sharing! :-) Pippinfan
Author's reply
Thank you. This one refused to go away until I wrote it down. Seems "slippery as as Took on ice" line wanted to come out. Thanks for the review!
Bodkin · 5 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
Beautifully done - Merry could be very aggravating, but he carries off. Must be because the Brandybuck lad is so charming.
Author's reply
That would be the reason, charm. LOL Thanks for reading!
Hai Took · 5 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
That was great! I love the way that Pippin was a bit angry and ready to leave but Merry talked him out of it without really saying anything that would make him want to stay either, if that made since. I have a sister who can frustrate you to tears yet she always makes you laugh at the same time! I liked this it made me laugh "I guess I’ll have to let you hang around me for your own safety. You’re a bit touched and might get into trouble on your own." Thank you for the story!
Author's reply
Sounds like you and your sister are very close. That's a very special thing. Glad you got a laugh out of this one. Thanks for reviewing this! Author Reply: Sounds like you and your sister are very close. That's a very special thing. Glad you got a laugh out of this one. Thanks for reviewing this!
pipinheart · 5 November 2004 · Chapter 18: Snow and Ice
Pippin is excited about snow, but merry and frodo love maps... He wanted so bad to play the slider game but being too young couldn't. Being pipin he went out on his own, and took a try and ended on the brandywine... Good thing Merry and frodo came to the rescue.... Great story...
Author's reply
I should get you to write the little teasers for the beginning of my stories. I never know how to discribe them. You give a good book review. Glad you enjoyed this and thanks for the review.
pipinheart · 5 November 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
Love it! Merry coined the saying after pippin, shame on him... But it seems pippin did the same... Pippin even ate his cake,lol.... Love it! Great work...
Author's reply
Yes, Pip got the cake and the last laugh, but you have to give Merry points for trying. LOL
pipinheart · 5 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
Very lovely...The frienship and close bond between Merry and pippin... You put a lot of humor in it and you can feel merry's personality come forth. Merry acts as though he wants pippin to leave him alone, but in the end whispers that he is his best friend.... Love it! Keep up the great writing.......
Author's reply
I enjoy writing the silly ones more than the dark ones. This is easier for me than the "Home Again" story. I just enjoy humor. Glad Merry's personality showed in this one. Thanks for all of your reviews. Always helps me to know that someone got a luagh and enjoyed the story.
LaughingBrook · 4 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
Ohhh, this is wonderful, G.W!! I love it! Merry is so pompous. You catch him well. People don't do that so well very often. I think they muddle up Sam the most; turn him into a pathetic, blubbering mess whose grammar is even worse than usual. That was one of the reasons I didn't write any fanfiction for awhile, I was afraid I'd dutter up my beloved characters. Again, great job! L.B.:o)
Author's reply
I have a very hard time writing Sam myself. I always want to put him on equal terms with the rest when I know that the hobbits had a class distinction. I think that's why I don't write him as much as I write the others. Hope you are writing again. It's too much fun to give up completely, isn't it? Thanks for the review!
Dreamflower · 4 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
Oh I just love vain!Merry, LOL! What a stinker! And poor Pip, trying so hard to be mad at him, with Merry giving him the old "don't laugh" treatment--priceless! Meriadoc the Magnificent, indeed, and Peregrin the Long-suffering!
Author's reply
In this one, Merry is at that lovely age that lads go through where no one is better than anything than they are. LOL Poor Pip has always believed that Merry was better than everyone else at everything so he has trouble arguing the point. Thanks for reading.
GamgeeFest · 4 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
My, Merry is full of himself isn't he? lol. Very funny.
Author's reply
He is doing a bit of bragging, isn't he? No lack of self-confidence in that one is there? Thanks for the review! Looking forward to more of a certain "Tale that Grew in the Telling".
Pearl Took · 4 November 2004 · Chapter 20: That Charming Brandybuck Lad
I can so picture those two racals having this conversation!!! Great fun as always, thank you :)
Author's reply
I always think of Merry as the cheeky type, but only as a joke. I think he secretly enjoys teasing Pip. Glad you liked this one and I do so thank you for your lovely reviews.
GamgeeFest · 31 October 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
What a fun little ending to the last chapter. Poor Pippin and Merry were so frightened. At least one of them is able to laugh about it now. Well done, both of them.
Author's reply
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed my little after-thought. I don't usually do that, but this time I just had to.
PIppinfan1988 · 31 October 2004 · Chapter 18: Snow and Ice
What a totally sweet story! I kept expecting the ice to crack and break, but you have this wonderful talent for writing the unexpected! A beautiful example of the love between these two (three) young cousins. Thanks for sharing! Pippinfan
Author's reply
Glad you enjoyed it. I started to let the ice crack a smidge, but didn't, then I started to put them both in the Brandywine and decided against it. It would have made the story too long for where i posted it. It would have been a whole nother story and I am in the middle of too many now. LOL Thanks for reading!
Lindelea · 27 October 2004 · Chapter 18: Snow and Ice
I'm so contrary, I read the stories out of order, but the second one had enough explanation in it that it made sense anyhow. This is so sweet! I love the last few lines. Very realistically done! You had me wondering if they'd both fall through the ice and have to be pulled out. Thanks!
Author's reply
As I was writing this I did think about putting them both in the river, but since I have already put Merry in the Brandywine once, I decided to let his rescue mission be successful. Good to know that these can be read out of order btw. Thanks for the review.
Lindelea · 27 October 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
"As slippery as a Took on ice" "As reckless as the Master's son" :::chortling::: What a clever story! And I love the way you write Merry and Estella together. (Wonder who the original phrase "Drunk as a Brandybuck" was coined after?)
Author's reply
I wondered about the 'drunk as a Brandybuck' one also. I have no idea which Brandybuck has that honor. I enjoy Merry and Estella and I think it I ever have the nerve to do a romance story, they will be the ones that I write about. Second choice would be Saradoc and Esmeralda. I have done silly little bits and bobs about Pippin and Diamond, but I am always struck by Pearl Took's version of that romance. I suspect that I will stick to the humor/adventure type.
Bodkin · 27 October 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
As slippery as a Took on ice. Good expression. As is Pippin's addition. Just goes to show how much they deserve each other.
Author's reply
They do, don't they? LOL

Hai Took · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
lol! That was great! That Merry was the one to coin the phrase after Pippin was great, of course he would leave the part out about the prase coined after him! Thanks for the laughs!
Author's reply
You have to watch Merry. He can be very tricky sometimes. LOL I am glad that you enjoyed this one and that it gave you a laugh.
Hai Took · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 18: Snow and Ice
That was great! I like the way you wrote Fredegar and Falco. Just names from the books but you gave them both a lot more character! We just had our first bit of snow here so Pippin's excitement over the snow is very real at my house! Whew! I'm glad that no one took a dip in the river! They all did very well! Thanks for the story!
Author's reply
Hey, you've got snow? That's great. I love it when it snows. This is the first snow-related hobbit story that I've ever written. I am glad that no one at your house wound up in the river while enjoying the snow and I am grateful to you for your reviews. Thank you!
eiluj · 26 October 2004 · Chapter 19: To Coin A Phrase...
Just to let you know, I did not realize I had somehow missed the previous chapter, so I *did* read "To Coin a Phrase" before "Snow and Ice." But even without the first half of the story, "To Coin a Phrase" *does* make sense. And both phrases are perfect for the hobbits in question.
Author's reply
I just figured that without the first one that this one might be a bit confusing for the reader. It is good to hear that it is readable without the other one. Thanks for the review.
