PIppinfan1988 · 31 January 2005 · Chapter 5: Five Golden Rings

Wow. I actually am speechless. This is extremely powerful: “Sadly, few things are what they appear to be and most are anything but simple. The ring twisted itself about my very soul and wormed its way into my mind, killing some small part of my spirit and replacing it with the deep ache of shame and despair. I often long for my old life and to be as I once was, but I know that I must go on from here. It is the going on that seems to be the hardest. Some days, I hardly see the point in it all.” - GW So, marvelously written and very poignant. I love how you have written Frodo’s thoughts so eloquently. (applause) Take your bow, Grey Wonderer! Thank you for sharing this. Pippinfan

Author's reply

My serious side jumped out there for a minute on this one. Glad that you liked it. I just knew I had to use The One Ring for the 'five golden rings' challenge and that is always a serious subject. Glad you like dthe Frodo POV because I don't do that too often. Thanks for the review!

PIppinfan1988 · 31 January 2005 · Chapter 4: Four Calling Birds

Oh! This was sooooo sweet! Poor little Pippin! I almost want to take the wee laddie away from Frodo and comfort him myself! So well done. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Why thank you. I sometimes want to take Pippin away from the others too. Wonder what that's all about? LOL Good to hear from you again by the way.

bobo baggins · 29 January 2005 · Chapter 8: Eight Maids A'Milking

LMAO!!!!! Freddy in drag reminds me of the story when Pervinca sewed Pippin in a dress.

Author's reply

I seem to be turning these hobbits into a shorter version of Monty Python, don't I? I have everyone dressing in drag. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Also, it is nice to hear that someone read "Fashion Statement" (Pip in the dress) and actually remembers it. Thanks!

bobo baggins · 29 January 2005 · Chapter 6: Six Geese A'Laying

That was evil!!

Author's reply

Yes, and now Frodo owes them in a very big way. But I am very sure that the old lasses would be unable to resist questioning Frodo if given the chance. He was the perfect decoy, just far too interesting to be ignored.

bobo baggins · 29 January 2005 · Chapter 5: Five Golden Rings

This one is sad and reflective, but I loved it since it deals with Frodo. Also, I hope you don't mind, but I just wanted to note that I think you misspelled a word talking about SAm ans Rosie. Isn't it 'doting', and not 'dotting'?

Author's reply

I am glad that enjoyed it. I don't write the serious ones very often and so I always worry about them a bit more. Good to know that you liked it. Oh, and any spelling help is appreciated. The author (me) is a very poor speller. LOL

bobo baggins · 29 January 2005 · Chapter 2: Two Turtle Doves

You should have put a warning on this one; it should say "Danger: Beware of Fluff"

Author's reply

True. This one was very fluffy and very different from the first one. Thanks so much for reviewing these. It's great to know that someone is reading.

bobo baggins · 29 January 2005 · Chapter 1: A Partridge in a Pear Tree

ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!! Merry is not happy in the least! I loved this!

Author's reply

Rhank you! I had fun with this one.

lmw · 26 January 2005 · Chapter 12: Twelve Drummers Drumming

This was really good! I liked the 'lords' and 'pipers' chapters. The lords one especially got to me.

Author's reply

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for the review!

Bodkin · 25 January 2005 · Chapter 12: Twelve Drummers Drumming

Orcs - as contemptuous of their allies as of their enemies. Which is a problem of the breed really. Win or lose, they would never have been able to co-operate without the fear of Sauron. A most enjoyable series of stories.

Author's reply

That was my first Orc and I am glad to see that he came off in the proper manner. Seems he was evil enough in spite of my inexperience. I just couldn't pass up the chance to use all of those Trolls for my drummers. I can thank Peter Jackson for that one and thank you for reading these and reviewing!

Armariel · 24 January 2005 · Chapter 12: Twelve Drummers Drumming

Sooooooooo, we DID write about the filthy orcses, did we, precioussss?? YESSS!!!! CLEVER! and big nasty trolls beating on the drumses!!! So that's all now? Dang! The song should be longer....much longer.....wonderful job, you have a great imagination! *applauds* best wishes Armariel~~~{~@

Author's reply

Thank you for reading this and for all of your lovely reviews. I am very glad you liked it and also very glad that the song is not any longer, precious. LOL

Auntiemeesh · 23 January 2005 · Chapter 12: Twelve Drummers Drumming

You've done a really good job with this different perspective on the battle at Minas Tirith. I love how you show the pride of the orcs, They are not a bunch of cowardly goblins on a raid in the dead of the night. They are an army that can travel in sunlight and move with speed. You've done a great job with all twelve stories. :)

Author's reply

Thank you so much. I had a lot of fun with this challenge, but I was nearly unable to finish it several times. Once, I had one written and LJ almost wouldn't let me post to the challenge site. You had to do them within 24 hours of the posting of each verse and I almost didn't make that one. It was so much easier moving them over here as they were already written and there was no deadline. LOL Thank you for reading and I am glad that you enjoyed my Orc!

Auntiemeesh · 23 January 2005 · Chapter 11: Eleven Pipers Piping

What a clever idea for the eleven pipers. “Try very hard not to set anything on fire,” Pippin said, softly. Now that is a story I'd love to see. :)

Author's reply

I have that story thought out but just haven't gotten around to writing it down yet. It will turn up in the future though. 'wink' I simply am not musical at all and so I couldn't come up with anything for this part of the song for a very long time and finally, a different sort of pipes presented themselves. LOL

Bodkin · 23 January 2005 · Chapter 11: Eleven Pipers Piping

Poor Legolas. All those pipes would be bad enough in the open air, but confined in a pub - I expect he was glad to escape in a way, although he can't be a member of the group that way. (I wonder if Aragorn was allowed to smoke when he went home to Rivendell, or whether he had to sneak out into the woods. And then suck mints to try to convince Elrond that he hadn't been out for a pipe.)

Author's reply

You know, I never thought about Aragorn smoking in Rivendell. I always assumed he'd picked up the habbit after he became a ranger. Interesting bunny.....mmmm. Thanks for reading.

Bodkin · 23 January 2005 · Chapter 10: Ten lords A'Leaping

What a lot of lords! All a-leaping one way or another. Good thing they're not all in a room together - you'd get trampled.

Author's reply

Yes, I guess I could have had them do some sort of a dance together, but I decided against it. Thank goodness. LOL Thank you for the reivew!

GamgeeFest · 23 January 2005 · Chapter 11: Eleven Pipers Piping

I'm with Legolas. Smoking - ick. And what's the story behind Pippin's advice? Now that sounds amusing. :)

Author's reply

That was a little bunny that popped up while I was writing these and I haven't had time to catch him and write him up. I hope to be able to do that later on because it is a rather interesting little bunny. LOL I am also with Legolas on his opinion of smoking, but I do believe that Tolkien was a big fan of it.

Auntiemeesh · 22 January 2005 · Chapter 10: Ten lords A'Leaping

Not everyone leaps to the wrong conclusion. Some leaps of faith are justified. This is a very nice look at the assumptions and leaps of faith made by both sides in the War. :)

Author's reply

Thank you. I simply couldn't come up with another way to do the '10 lords 'a leaping' line of the song. That one had me stumped for a while. I am very lucky that Tolkien filled LOTR with Lords. LOL

Auntiemeesh · 22 January 2005 · Chapter 9: Nine Ladies Dancing

Pippin is quite the storyteller, he has a positive talent for offending his entire audience, lol. But I want to hear Merry's story about half-wit Pippin. I really liked this fairy tale. :)

Author's reply

Thanks for the review! I am quite sure that Merry's tale was equally offensive. LOL I may have to write that one at some point.

GamgeeFest · 21 January 2005 · Chapter 9: Nine Ladies Dancing

LOL, this was so great! I loved everything, all their reactions, Merry being insulted about being ugly, Sam warning Pippin off Rosie, Diamond being upset about not being in the story and then given the role of the filthy but pretty lass. And all the banter in between the telling of the story was great too. Wonderful!

Author's reply

Thank you! Glad you liked it. At first, I thought the interruptions might be confusing, but then I decided that no one could listen to a tale like that without saying something! LOL

GamgeeFest · 21 January 2005 · Chapter 8: Eight Maids A'Milking

"Maybe there was a way to blame this entire thing on Pippin." LOL, that Merry is incorrible! No wait, both of them are. Too bad the bonnet fell, they almost got away with it. And putting Frodo on the spot like that, hehehe.

Author's reply

Yes, poor Frodo wound up in the middle of it all and he didn't even realize it until it was almost too late. I imagine that Freddy repaid Merry at some point, after all, he was wearing a dress and bonnet in front of most of the town.

cher · 21 January 2005 · Chapter 9: Nine Ladies Dancing

Now that is what I call a fairy tale!!

Author's reply

Seems Pippin has quite an imagination! LOL Thanks for reviewing!

TopazTook · 21 January 2005 · Chapter 9: Nine Ladies Dancing

LOL...laughing...too...hard...can't...review...LOL! Loved it!

Author's reply

Why, thank you. Glad this gave you a really good laugh! Thank you for the review.

Armariel · 21 January 2005 · Chapter 9: Nine Ladies Dancing

Love it, love it, keep going........oh rats, only 3 more to go after this, too bad there aren't 13 days...or 14, 15, 16....... Well let me see, how about: 13 ducks a quacking 14 Elves a prancing 15 Orcs a hacking 16 Wizards...grumbling? whatever...heheh

Author's reply

Oh, you are dangerous! Making up more verses.....I managed the 12, but I don't think I couldn't go any further on this. Although, your Orcs a hacking sound interesting. Thanks so much for reviewing!

Saoirse · 20 January 2005 · Chapter 5: Five Golden Rings

There were some wonderful lines in this one: 'I smile at Pippin, who, throughout our journey in the dark, has managed to smile back at me. ' This one really shows that although Pippin was young and inexperienced, he was still, in his own way, brave and strong, and gave to Frodo that touch of much-needed light-heartedness to remind him of the innocence he was fighting for. 'He is yet young in years. It is his life that I will wonder about most with the passing of time.' This is very poignant! It really gives you the mindset that although Frodo is leaving, he still will always be thinking of the loved ones he had to leave behind, just as they think of him. And it is very sad to think that Frodo will not get to see him grow up, and will remain unknowing. 'I believe that he knew that today was coming long before I knew.' This shows wonderfully the amount of love Merry has for his cousin, and gives you a glimpse of the pain he must have suffered while watching Frodo slowly slip away once more. 'He is strong in ways that neither Sam nor Pippin are and he will look after both of them.' This is a nice touch, Merry is strong in different ways, and it is good that Frodo has some peace, knowing that his dear cousin will look after the loved ones that he would, since he can no longer be there. 'I may leave to seek peace knowing that he will watch out for the home fires and keep them burning bright.' This is a lovely image. Great job! ^_^ I really liked these!

Author's reply

Why, thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed them and thank you for taking the time to let me know which lines left an impression on you. I love reviews like this one. I also do want to let you know how very much I am enjoying your stories posted here on Arda. you write show wonderful emotion and feeling into your stories with only a few lines or a glance between characters. Just amazing! Thank you for reading these.

Bodkin · 20 January 2005 · Chapter 8: Eight Maids A'Milking

Merry would make a good market trader - or one of those chaps who sells stuff from a suitcase on a street corner. With Pippin as the look-out. A right Del-Boy Trotter, to those as knows the reference. And just as successful, because he always gets caught! It's a wonder that Pippin manages to maintain his faith in his big cousin!

Author's reply

Merry does have that "hey, wanna buy a watch?" thing going on in this one. This was not one of his better plans, but he did manage to get Freddy into a dress, so his powers of persuasion are still working for him. Thanks for reading!

Lavender Took · 20 January 2005 · Chapter 7: Seven Swans A'Swimming

“You don’t seriously think that Pippin will manage to pull Legolas into the water do you?” Aragorn asked, looking at Merry. LOL! This was so funny! hehe, Legolas falling....

Author's reply

As a hobbit person, I am always nervous about writing the elves, but I love to humanize them a bit when I can. I believe that the hobbits would completely take the elves by surprise. Glad this made you laugh and thank you for the review!
