St. Bernard has met up with the UPS man. UPS man drank all the St. Barnard's ale, but plenty of healing supplies left. Glad to know that Strider is still hanging in there. Yeah as if he has a choice. What Daevan needs is a deversion, maybe chuck in a few fake dwarves or something.
Author's reply
*big smile* Nice and very circumspect that the UPS man left the healing supplies for Aragorn! But drinking all the ale... Hell, how's he supposed to get out totally drunk?
And faked Dwarves? You got an interesting point here... What might the real ones say to that?

I must say that I absolutely love reading your fics. I don't think that I've left a review for any of them before though. So here we go. The quality of your stories have finally made me feel indecent to not leave one. The story seems to be progressing really well, I love your characterisation of Daevan, it's very real. He worries, he's afraid, he's unsure, things you would expect from a boy from a fishing village on his first adventure. He kind of reminded me of Vlohiri in Castle. The portrayal of Aragorn is great too. Of his strength, loyalty and perseverance. I especially liked how you showed his intentness on pursuing gollum.
Anyways, I hope that Daevan will free Aragorn soon, or the dwarves (which I personally think have not betrayed Aragorn :P ) could come and launch an attack. Update soon!
Author's reply
Welcome, shadowed flames! And thanks for the praise. As you might have read in my comments I like the OCs very much; they are the quintessence of every story. I hope to entertain you with further chapters as the story will take this and that turn...

I planned on leaving a review yesterday but time got away from me. And now (again) you've posted the next chapter. Anyways, great stuff here and makes me wonder what's in store for our intrepid ranger next. Maybe I'll get an idea in the new chapter. Soft as butter, eh? Doesn't sound good. Saruman? Much potential. Can't even begin to tell you how much I love your stories.
Author's reply
IMHO you told me in very kind words that you like my stories, and I'm grateful for it.

Drat back in the orcs hands again, and all because of that snitch Gollum.
Grima sure can act brave when he has a wizard behind him. Gurim was right thinking of him as a walking threat on a leash.
I have sent in a Saint Bernard, with a little flask of ale, lots of bandages and a hacksaw.
Author's reply
Wow, it's getting full down there in the depth of Moria! Maybe he will find the poor guy from UPS first, and then together they might walk another mile to meet with Aragorn and Daevan. Tools will be needed. Badly.

I like the way you use Grima here.I feel increasingly sorry for Aragorn.

That's the way Grima works: cow the others as best as you can and stay out of trouble yourself.
I feel sorry for Aragorn, too.

Poor Aragorn, yet is so amazingly brave and resourceful though. When I first read this,I never thought that he would manage to free himself.I like Daevan more and more.
Author's reply
Aragorn is not superhuman, so I stuck to what's manegeable with just human strength.. *g*
Daevan will carry on. Not happily, though, but bravely.

Good Aragorn managed to bet gree, with no help in sight from the dwarves. Whatever will he do with his new necklace and chains, little hard to go sneaking about with that on. Plus he has lost Narsil, perhaps a side trip to the lost and found department, if Daeven finds it and turns it in.
Loved the part with the two Dunlendings fighting over his other stuff.
great chapter.
Author's reply
Well, if it was too easy for the hero where would be all the fun? LOL!
Lost and Found Department... Let me see... nope, it's not on the map for Moria. Might be as hard to find as the Ranger for the poor UPS man, who is still on the run through the vast caves...

Oh, I thought they were going to get together again there at the end!
I so felt Aragorn's pain at being betrayed by the dwarves and as you put it, it was a feeling he knew so well. That hurt me for him. :( Some pain is worse than physical. When he lost his sword, I wanted to cry out too, but I think Daevan has it for him... at least I hope so.
I was trying to decide if the Dunlendings knew of Daevan's presence or if the lad they were talking about was gollum... I couldn't quite tell, because then they were talking about 'precious' so I figured that was gollum, but they said lad so that could be Daevan. I'm hoping they aren't looking for him too!
Very enjoyable chapter!
Author's reply
Oh, you found a twist in the story I didn't write into... That's really nice. Well, if the orcs are stupid, maybe the Dunlendings are not... or not that much. *g*

Has he found Narsil? We wonders, doesn't we, gollum, gollum?
Wonderful means of using the orcs' own poor planning against them.
And hopefully he'll get his Ranger's star back as well.

Daevan is doing quite well for himself, very smart to try and look like an orc. Strider seems to be in need of a rescue, and a first aid kit. Hmmm I wonder if I can find a doctor that makes house calls.
Author's reply
Oh, grumpy, I love your comments! I think, it won't be difficult to find a doctor for house calls. Bet the women would stand in line... until they learn about the destination. And then? The bravest are to go first!

Wonderful chapter, though I'm angry that the dwarves didn't come back and help Aragorn! They certainly should have, though maybe they are going to sneak out and help him. Poor Daevan, thinking that Aragorn is really dead! He was very smart though to put on the uniform of an orc... that would be horrifying to do, but necessary for his survival. I'm anxious to see what happens next.
Author's reply
Thanks, Radbooks, yes, Daevan had to take some drastic measures to at least have a chance of survival. The Dwarves are certainly not known for their comradeship, are they?

Awesome chapter, so exciting and so much potential...*eg*...looks like poor Daevan is going to have a lot of growing up to do. I'm wondering if you'll kill him off or not. 'Twould be cruel, but hey, it could happen. (I just really hope you don't)! Anyways, this was great. I loved the fight scene. Just enough info to keep my interest but not too much that I got lost in the detail...perfect for the short attention span I have today. And BTW, just WHO is this Man and what does he want with our Strider? (Yes, I know -- probably NOT the same thing we do). Has all the trademarks of a wonderfully nefarious bad guy. Great writing, as always. BTW, let me know when you see 'Sharpe'. Not sure when it's playing in the States but I definitely want to see it, though not as much as I want to see 'Captain Alatriste'...oops, sidetracked again...well, now I'll just have to wait til you post again. I love this story. What an ending, woman, what an ending.
Author's reply
*author checks chapters* Well, there are some chapters yet ahead, viggomaniac, so I *think* you refer to this story as a whole and being the last of mine in the Tolkien universe.
What would the story be without such an opponent? There was so much fun until now that there's need for some... hum, bad moments. LOL! Anyway, this will lead to something good... maybe.
Should I know of Captain Alatriste? Send me a PM, please!

Yuck! I can actually smell the Orc stench! I shiver at the thought of Daevan in the Orc garments. Very realistic description!
I like the reaction of the Dwarves after Strider killed the two enemies. I equate it to being dumbstruck!
Who is this Man? I am sure Daevan will find his courage right away! Very captivating chapter.

Hi Timmy! Don't think I left a review for this chapter, but suffice to say that it was as enthralling as all the others. Dwarves? Well, I suspected but the story is so incredibly interesting. Never know where you're going to take us next. And now, the task at hand...(I get to read ahead because you just posted your next chapter and I don't have to wait very long). Daevan must be wondering what he's gotten himself into! Wish I could be a bit more detailed but I'm suffering from a severe lack of sleep (the nap comes AFTER I read your next chapter).

Oh boy! Here we go again! Wonder what those dwarves are looking for. One advice for Strider--Duck! Keep your head low. Strider sure was quick to reveal himself as Thorongil to the dwarves-- he would use it if need be to his advantage--or in this case, an emergency! This will be a very interesting journey with the untrusting dwarves. As far as Daevan, I believe he now has the instincts of a warrior! Strider was indeed a very good teacher!
Author's reply
At least Daeven should know how to survive, now that his teacher is somewhere in the depth of Moria.
Hum, 'emergency' is a good word... There might be some more moments of it coming up. -- I know, I'm a little bit mean. Just a bit. *g*

Thanks for updating quite quickly! It is so good to find a new chapter more often! :o)
So, the figures were Dwarves. Well, they certainly wasn't that friendly, but at least they will help each other.
I loved that little incident that as soon as Strider could straighten, he took the stance of a warrior and rested his hand on the hilt of his sword. And how the dwarves reacted... :o)
In the end Daevan will become a warrior...
Now I wonder how they will find each other again. Moria is huge, and Strider won't be searching for Daevan, after all he thinks he left.
Author's reply
Uh, yes, I know I let you wait for chapter 18 quite a while. Sorry. I will update in shorter intervals if I can manage.
Right, Strider would think of Daevan to have left. Which would be a wise, even clever idea considering the lot of Orcs out there. And no one would think of him as a coward... only he.
