Radbooks · 25 March 2006 · Chapter 20: Moria - Part Three -

Oh, my goodness! How wonderfully written and suspenseful the last two chapters have been and I hope there is not a long wait between updates. Poor Daevan, to be all alone in that place... he is fortunate that he has had weeks of at least basic training with Aragorn... hopefully it will be enough for him to hold out. I love the idea of Aragorn with the distrustful dwarves and I'm anxious to see exactly what treasure they are searching for and what adventures or misadventures you have in store for them. Although, I hope you don't leave Daevan on his own for too long! Very nicely done, I am so enjoying this story.

Author's reply

Thanks, Radbooks, for the praise! I loved writing this story very much, and I cherish every review! And *misadventures* truly hits the nail on its head. *author clears throat*. After all, this is an Aragorn story, and you would expect some nasty twists, wouldn't you? - T.

grumpy · 25 March 2006 · Chapter 20: Moria - Part Three -

I have UPS Strider a safety helmet, and am looking arround for a electronic Gollum finder for him. Hope the UPS nam can find him in Moria. Whatever are the dwarves after? Daevan did quite well for himself, in his battle with the orcs.

Author's reply

LOL! UPS in Moria! Well, after all they advertise they deliver everywhere anytime. Would be a real challenge. Imagine the poor soul running through Moria with the package tucked under his arm... - T.

Linda Hoyland · 24 March 2006 · Chapter 20: Moria - Part Three -

The drarwes are real characters and their appearance was most unexpected.I would not like to have to try to justfiy myself to them !

Author's reply

No need to! Thanks for your review, Linda, as usual it's very kind you leave me a review though knowing it all! - T.

Larner · 24 March 2006 · Chapter 20: Moria - Part Three -

Good--both safe so far. As is, of course, right and proper.

Author's reply

*Safety* in Moria is a very fragile thing... *author withdraws with a malevolent grin* - T.

Gandalfs apprentice · 24 March 2006 · Chapter 20: Moria - Part Three -

Now just what are those Dwarves after? Nice convergence of plotlines here! I'm looking forward to both Aragorn and Daevan doing brave and remarkable deeds! And, presumably, they catch Gollum eventually....

Author's reply

Hi Gandalf's Apprentice, hum, let me see what's on the list: another plotline... OK, both main characters doing brave deeds... eventually, catching Gollum... doesn't look likt it at the moment. *g* But, eventually, they have to catch the slimy little thing, haven't they? - T.

grumpy · 21 March 2006 · Chapter 19: Moria - Part Two -

Oh, I knew that going into Moria was a bad idea. Now look they are seperated, and at least one is lost. Aragorn seems to have been on the receiving end of a blunt object. Glad that Daevan is not giving up, but has set off to find Strider.

Author's reply

'The receiving end of a blunt object.' grumpy, that was marvelous! Laughed so hard over here! Yeah, Moria was supposed to be a good idea for Gollum, but a bad idea for everybody else. And Daevan would be a bad companion if he'd give up now, right? - T.

RS · 20 March 2006 · Chapter 19: Moria - Part Two -

Four stout figures? Could they be.....dwarves? Poor Aragorn, how many head wounds can he endure? This is truly Daevan's test. The feeling of separation, especially in this dark world he has found himself in. "His friend and teacher"--wonderful words.

Author's reply

Hi, RS, congrats!! You made the 100th review on this story *fanfares in the background; loud cheers and confetti* ! And *author clears throat after the audience settles down again* if head wounds worry you, you should definitely think about continuing this story. It... might... just might get a little bit... worse. - T.

Linda Hoyland · 19 March 2006 · Chapter 19: Moria - Part Two -

Poor Strider! This tale is full of surprises as I believed all was lost for him at one point. Young Daervan's loyalty is truly touching.

Author's reply

Thank you, Linda. I find it most touching to find your reviews here though you had a first hand look at the story. Glad you liked it! - T.

Larner · 19 March 2006 · Chapter 19: Moria - Part Two -

Aha! So it appears some of Balin's folk are here at the moment, at least. Now, clubbing Aragorn was probably NOT the most politic thing they could have done, if they'd had the least idea who on earth he was. Nice cliff-hanger.

Author's reply

Dwarves... political correct? Huh? 'We are Dwarves!' any such kinsman would answer you. - T.

hanci · 19 March 2006 · Chapter 19: Moria - Part Two -

I wondered what would happen since Aragorn wasn't eager to enter Moria again. That won't be all, will it? How will Daevan find him again? Or will the dwarves find him first? (Well, if you don't surprise me (us) and the stout figures aren't dwarves.) I know, I know, wait and read.

Author's reply

Hi Hanci, glad to have you here. No, Aragorn was not so eager to enter Moria, knowing about the possible dangers and that finding Gollum in there reminds him of the needle in a haystack. But he would not be Aragorn if he just had called it quits. *g* - T.

Laerien · 19 March 2006 · Chapter 19: Moria - Part Two -

Hi! I was so glad to see such a quick update! That was really nice! :o) Thanks very much! Wow. I was so used to the slower pace of the story that these chapters caught me a bit off-guard! But I enjoyed seeing some action again! Certainly neither of them is in the best shape for this little extra adventure... I hope Daevan can hold on, and find Strider! "Through his admiration for Thorongil, he felt the sting of hurt pride: he had been shoved out of harm's way. Strider had found him too inept to fight on and stand beside him to the end." It seems Aragorn found another man who would die for him! :o) Btw, hasn't it occured to Daevan that Strider merely wanted him to live because this wasn't really his buisness to die for, and that the whole thing didn't happen because Strider 'found him too inept to fight'... Now you have me wondering about those four stout figures...Of course, my first reaction was that they are dwarves. (And I still believe that) But why would the dwarves knock Aragorn out?? I hope you won't let us wait a long time again, because this can be considered a cliff-hanger!

Author's reply

Wasn't it about time to speed up the story? I did not wish to lure my readers into sleep, no! *g* Ah, well, Daevan's not the aptest fighter and truly not so self-confident that he wound understand Aragorn's reasons, would he? After all, he decided to go with Strider and would have gone with him further through the mountains. Well, some foes were against this... Just wait and see, who hid behind the wall. - T.

RS · 18 March 2006 · Chapter 18: Moria - Part One -

Welcome back! Hope you feel better! First of all I love your descriptions of Strider's subtle movements, "..stopped chewing and looked up","..swallowed the bit of dried meat and gave a slight nod","..curled to a grin". All his movements are so much like Strider's character in Peter Jackson's films (which i feel was portrayed beautifully by Viggo). I just love it! I admire Daevan's adamant stand on staying with Strider "Let me tell you then that I am mature and you insult me by thinking otherwise". Brilliant! This place where they are at is creeping me out. The mood is getting real dark! I'm getting jumpy just reading about it. I've a feeling I better fasten my seatbelt, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Author's reply

Thanks and, yes, I feel much better now. I appreciate your detailed comments on lines I wrote. Always cherish it! Of course, Viggo's portrait of Aragorn was on my mind. Loved the little moments (especially when Eowyn tried to talk him eating eating her, hum, soup LOL) and tried to put them in here. Yes, I totally agree: fasten your seatbelt and make it tight!! - T.

grumpy · 17 March 2006 · Chapter 18: Moria - Part One -

O, could there not have bee a better way, going through Moria seems to be a bit risky, with all thoses orcs arround. Glad that Daevan is sticking with Strider. Loved it when he asked if the dwarves would at keast be friendly.

Author's reply

Risky... Hum, add: very dangerous, deadly, lethal. And the persons going there foolhardy, stupid, suicidal... LOL Aren't Dwarves always friendly company??? - T.

viggomaniac · 16 March 2006 · Chapter 16: Into the Woods - Part Four -

Hello again! I'm playing 'catch-up' on reviewing here this week as (I explained already) my computer woes are finally over (although I had even more computer problems last week, due in part to my own stupidity). Anyways, on to the review! This was one of my favorite chapters, especially all that deliciously poignant stuff at the end. I also enjoyed Daevan's frequent need to hide the anxiety he feels due to his inexperience and nervousness about the strangeness of things he is encountering, and his disappointment at not only NOT meeting the king of Rohan, but missing out on a comfortable night's sleep. As I was reading your descriptions of location/geography, etc., I found myself quite impressed at your 'book knowledge'. I, on the other hand, consider myself to be among the 'geographically challenged'. Aw, and that last part where Daevan probes into Strider's underlying melancholy -- you really touched a nerve there. Poor Aragorn. (But I loved it of course; sometimes it feels so wrong to be me)!

Author's reply

Hello, viggomaniac, so good to read from you again! Oh, thanks for the praise on the book knowledge, but there was also the atlas of Middle Earth helping me out with details and maps. And concerning 'poor Aragorn': fasten your seat-bealts once they will have entered Moria. *author cannot help but grin* It is absolutely OK to be you. Welcome to the club! - T.

Larner · 16 March 2006 · Chapter 18: Moria - Part One -

It certainly is a valid question--how to find Gollum in all of that? And the descriptions are very vivid and believable. Thanks so much for all you have written so far.

Author's reply

Thanks for the praise! The pictures I describe are inspired by the movies, no doubt. And there is by far more to come! Stay tuned. - T.

Larner · 16 March 2006 · Chapter 17: Through the Downs

Yes, Thorongil has a past, and wishes to end things as cleanly and with as few deaths and dangers toward others as might be. Daevan in learning on many fronts. A deserving pupil of the greatest of Men.

Gandalfs apprentice · 16 March 2006 · Chapter 18: Moria - Part One -

The suspense is mounting! May you post again soon! I liked the conversation about Strider being an Elf. That must have happened to him a number of times. G.A.

Author's reply

Thanks! Trying to entertain you the best I can! Yes, I think, too, that Aragorn had had to answer many questions about his life more than once. Admitting that he is quite a taciturn character, it must have tapped on his nerves frequently... - T.

Radbooks · 4 March 2006 · Chapter 17: Through the Downs

Another wonderful chapter. I so enjoy their growing relationship, though I am nervous for the future. Loved the 'putting fat on the fish' comment. It was good for Daevan to see that what Aragorn did in Rohan was not just fight but to help lead the nation in other ways. You described that wonderfully well. Looking forward to more!

Author's reply

Thanks! I tend to make up scenarios and try to fill in the smaller gaps as well. It seemed not appropriate for a man like Aragorn to solely lent his hand for fighting. After all, he was born to become a king once. *LOL* - T.

Gandalfs apprentice · 26 February 2006 · Chapter 17: Through the Downs

Hi, timmy I'm really enjoying this. They are headed to Moria, right? Dark times ahead... Gandalfs apprentice

Author's reply

Nice to read your review, Gandalf's Apprentice. Yep, the two wanderers will face the long night of Moria... - T.

grumpy · 26 February 2006 · Chapter 17: Through the Downs

Fat to the fish, I like that. To get Strider to open up a little more. Poor Daevan to almost get lost in Fangorn forest. But they did get a nice refreashing swim at the end.

Author's reply

Thanks for the compliment, which I hand over to my fellow friend Mouse, who brought up the saying. I used it with her kind permission *g* - T.

Linda Hoyland · 24 February 2006 · Chapter 17: Through the Downs

I love the way you gradually develop Daevan's education and relationship with Strider. The section about the forest is chilling !

Author's reply

Thanks a lot, Linda, always nice to hear from you! - T.

grumpy · 11 February 2006 · Chapter 16: Into the Woods - Part Four -

Ah ha, Daevan is learning how to use his sword, and he got a wolf too. Strider is showing him new worlds, I too would be glad to be out of the rocks and onto the grass. Strider is having to wait a long time for his love, and having to be king too, before he has her. At least Lothlorien has good memories.

Author's reply

There has to be some sun after all the rain... later. *g* - T.

Larner · 10 February 2006 · Chapter 16: Into the Woods - Part Four -

A wonderful victory, and then the longing for the love so long sought, the difficult conditions laid for him.

Author's reply

Aragorn is and will be a tormented soul. That's what I like - in a way. He's not a man to laugh easily, but still there's Daevan... - T.

Radbooks · 9 February 2006 · Chapter 16: Into the Woods - Part Four -

I've forgotten to review the last few chapters but I wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying this story. I love the relationship that is growing between Daevan and Aragorn and how it is slowly becoming more of a two sided relationship as Aragorn opens up a little bit to the younger man. I always enjoy a story more when there is not just action, but there is also really good, honest, realistic relationships between the different characters and you have done that very well. I also enjoyed the whole trapped in the trees by the wolves scene and how they finally escaped and Daevan finally putting his sword to good use! :) And finally Aragorn is spending time teaching him how to use it. Very nicely done all the way around. Thanks for sharing your story!

Author's reply

Gladly! I blush deeply while reading your comment. It is always a difficult approach if there is a well-known character to be described. So easy with the ones I invented! The relationship is the most important part of the whole undertaking since the outcome of it all appears quite clear... - T.

RS · 9 February 2006 · Chapter 16: Into the Woods - Part Four -

This has got to be my favorite chapter thus far! A period of respite is so well deserved of these two. A pupil of a great warrior! Not only is Daevan getting the lessons he so well needed for swordfighting but history lessons from such a great man! I love the way Daevan catches Strider off guard and somehow makes him reveal more about himself. He somehow knows how to get Strider out of his reverie without being nosy. "Can there be more for you to do than you already did?...the father of that girl would not want you to become..well, the ruler of Gondor or Rohan?.." "Gondor and Arnor"..ooohhh I betcha Daevan heard that! I wish I could see the expression on his face right now! I read the previous chapter and I am sorry I did not get to review. I had to stop ignoring my family and get back to real life for a moment! You know darn well I'm constantly checking for updates cause I cannot bare to miss any of your chapters!

Author's reply

Thanks a lot! Though belatedly, I know. Real life can be nagging, and I was sick for some time, so excuse my silence, please. Those words from the dialogue are fun all the way. I love to write them, and it is very rewarding to read that the chapters are cherished. Well, that's all an author can ask for, right? - T.
