Awwww sweet! A lovely idea. I bet Pippin will never let go of that scarf now! ~~~{~@

Author's reply

From Dreamflower: You know, I'll bet you are right! 8-)

Armariel · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 5: Never Cross Swords with a Shield Maiden, by Bodkin

Yes, I've often imagined myself that Pippin must have found Eowyn a bit formidable, at least in the beginning. I imagine Eomer was quite a handful too--and find it amusing that she was the one to subdue him!

Author's reply

From Bodkin: I don't imagine Pippin would have remained intimidated for long - after all, he has learned to manage three older sisters, Tooks the lot of them! As for Eomer - I get the feeling he was one who would be ferocious towards enemies and indomitable with male friends, but putty in the hands of the females in his life and very gentle with them. Eowyn would have been able to run rings round him.

Armariel · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

ROFL!! to think Bergil didn't know it was the King! Love it! That must have made Pippin's whole day! ~~~{~@

Armariel · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 3: A Knight to Remember, by Beruthiel

Oooo that little Merry was an ornery one, what? Clever idea, to have Frodo tell a story on him! Heheh! Good one! ~~~{~@

Armariel · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 2: Silent Knight, by Shirebound

Ooooooo....I LOVE it...that's just so sweet and so right, somehow. You never do miss, do you? I'm envious! ~~~{~@

harrowcat · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 10: The Knight Has Been Unruly, by Dreamflower

Oh I am so pleased to more of these tales here. I did track them down elsewhere. It does Pippin good to realise that even his respectable elders were young once. And how could he even imagine that he could fool Sam!

Author's reply

From Dreamflower: Yes, even his "respectable" elders, as you put it, were not so respectable once. And I think he was mostly being hopeful. You have to admit to a certain "logic" in his plan, LOL!

Mum's the Word · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 10: The Knight Has Been Unruly, by Dreamflower

Wonderful, Dreamflower! This made me laugh out loud: If anyone but Gandalf had told the story, he would never have believed it. But he could easily imagine that it was something that Mr. Pippin’s and Mr. Merry’s grandfathers would have done--in fact, he could just as easily imagine Mr. Merry and Mr. Pippin doing such a thing themselves. It was a good thing they were still too young for such mischief when Bilbo went away. Do you mean PJ got it wrong?! Truly, a most "excellent adventure" for the previous generation, dear. Blessings, Mum

Author's reply

From Dreamflower: Well, it would be surprising if he did not; clearly he was not solely relying on the Red Book for his information, and so allowed misinformation from lesser secondary and tertiary sources enter into it. I am sure that when he heard the account of a Took and a Brandybuck being involved in such a thing, he naturally assumed it was Merry and Pippin, LOL!

Pipkin Sweetgrass · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

I've enjoyed this story as much the second tme around as the first. I was thinking of nominating this, if you think that's okay? Personally, I loved the works of every contributor and I truly feel it's worthy. Let me know if it's all right.

Mysterious Jedi · 23 December 2005 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

Nicely done, ansothehobbit. Pippin telling a story from Rivendell brings a little variety, and who would read about Pippin healing that wouldn't also enjoy Merry healing? :) <>< Saved from sin through Christ, mj

Larner · 22 December 2005 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

Yes, caring for one another is what cousins do best, I think. Lovely again.

Bodkin · 21 December 2005 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

I love the twist of having Pippin tell a story about a sick Merry. And I feel for Merry - headaches like that are absolutely horrible!

harrowcat · 20 December 2005 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

it was good to be a hobbit in Rivendell, and to have cousins and friends who loved you and looked out for you when you didn't have the wits to do it yourself. It sure is. Glad to see that Pippin is up to telling a tale in return! Happy Yule everyone!

Mysterious Jedi · 18 December 2005 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

All of these ficlets have been good! <>< Saved from sin through Christ, mj

Pearl Took · 27 November 2005 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

*applause* This is so wonderfully creative!! As delightful to read as it was for Pippin to hear :) Wonderful!!

Larner · 24 November 2005 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

Very cute! Love it. And his mother finally figured out the right direction to give him. Poor Tom Tarrytoes. Think I'll tell this version of the story to my small great nieces.

Mum's the Word · 20 November 2005 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

How clever of you to find the original of this story! I've heard it told in other forms, but this is certain to be the original, just like the Professor's own original of "Hey Diddle Diddle." And to think that it came from the Shire... Excellent job!

Author's reply

From Rabidsamfan: *grin* Research does have its benefits, doesn't it! And the Shire was the source of much creativity. So glad you enjoyed.

Mum's the Word · 20 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

Likening Dwarves to geodes is a brilliant, beautiful idea. Well done!

Author's reply

from Pearl Took: Thank you MTW :) I think it is true of many of us, that we look rather normal or unexciting on the outside but are full of sparkle on the inside. Elves should know better, but alas even they aren't perfect. Thank you so much for reading and responding.

Bodkin · 20 November 2005 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

I love the inevitability of good fairy stories - the sort of thing that can have you joining in, even if you don't really know it - and this is lovely. I'm not surprised Pippin enjoyed it. It must have sent him back to sleepless nights as a child.

Author's reply

From Rabidsamfan: I'm glad you enjoyed it. This actually is a traditional tale called "Jack Gets a Job", which also has a variant for Juan Bobo from Puerto Rico that I know about (and there are probably others.) I just reworked it a little, changed the ending, and made up poetry for the repetitive elements because I thought that was more hobbity. It's great fun to tell to kids in the original, because their faces are so expressive as they realize what Jack is going to do next.

harrowcat · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

Now it is just as well that I am home alone because I was chanting and chortling along with Pippin. Good timing as it is just coming up to pantomime season here in England and this would make a good one!

Author's reply

From Rabidsamfan I'm glad people are enjoying it! And it would make a lovely pantomime.

Jeodo Brandybuck · 10 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

This has been my favorite in the bunch, so far! Nice job! Jeodo

Author's reply

From Pearl Took: Oh, Jeodo, Thank you so very much :) I'm glad you liked my rock story :)

demeter d · 10 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

Pear Took, what a lovely, shining story! A sweet reminder of the beauty in all of us. Thank you for sharing!

Author's reply

From Pearl Took: Thank you, demeter, for reading and for leaving such a kindly response :)

Tigger · 10 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

Oh...This brought back memories of my cousins and I using a chisel and hammer one summer to find crystals inside of stones. We found one w/crystals the colour of a beautiful summer sky. You can find treasures anywhere if you want to look hard enough for them. Loved the dwarf tale and Pippin's gift to Gimli. What a satisfying little tale. Thanks for sharing it and loving this entire series of stories. :o)

Author's reply

From Pearl Took: I'm so glad this stirred pleasant memories of various rock hunts for people :) Your geode sounds like it was lovely. Thank you for your kind response Tigger :)

Larner · 10 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

Oh, how lovely a fable of the Dwarves, and lovely the ability to see beneath the surface of the halfling. Thank you so.

Author's reply

From Pearl Took: Thank you :) I love the attention Gad gave to everything, the beauty in the common place things. I'm glad you liked it Larner :)

Pearl Took · 10 November 2005 · Chapter 6: Muffled Conversation, by Dreamflower

This is a wonderful story of the famous scarf. Someone should scout around and find out how many different versions of the origins of the scarf have been written - I know I wrote one :)

Author's reply

from Dreamflower: I know I've read at least three others: one in which Pippin's mother made it, one in which one of his sisters made it, and one in which Frodo himself made it. I am sorry to say, I don't recall the authors as well as I do the stories, LOL! Anyway, I am glad that you liked my version, too! Thank you!

harrowcat · 10 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

Oh this is wonderful Pearl. I spent a whole afternoon on a beach on the south coast of England last Summer looking for fossils. I didn't find any but ended up taking home a very ordinary stone to remind myself that withing each of us can be true beauty waiting to be revealed. So you could say this struck a real chord with me!

Author's reply

from Pearl Took: Thank you, harrowcat :) I'm glad it struck a chord. I used to spend my breaks at one job I had walking along, head down, looking for geodes in the landscaping rocks around the building. I looked really strange but I found some nice small sized geodes :) Thank you for reading and responding!
