I loved this one before and love it still now. A beautiful story, and I hope that one day we might have a peek at someone finding that grey and blue scarf somewhere, and giving it as another memorial to Pippin, perhaps. Lovely story.

Author's Reply, from Dreamflower: Oh my! Now that is an interesting bunny. I will definitely have to put that one on simmer...

So wonderfully sweet. Someone else wrote a piece about one of Pippin's sisters making the scarf for him. This one so nicely bonds the cousins together.Lovely!

Author's reply

Author Reply from Dreamflower: Yes, I love reading different takes on that scarf. It is one of those little things from the films where it has enhanced the original, rather than detracted from it. There was just *something* about the way he had managed to hang on to it through all their trials that appealed to people. And since the bonding between the cousins and Sam is what I am most interested in, my idea of it reflects that. Dreamflower

As I said before, Oh my goodness! Pippin HAD to tell Bergil din't he! This is wonderful.

demeter d · 1 November 2005 · Chapter 3: A Knight to Remember, by Beruthiel

Oh, my goodness! That was delightful! ..."living near the Old Forest damages the brain". One can see the infant roots of Merry's gift for military strategy and planning! So funny.

harrowcat · 1 November 2005 · Chapter 6: Muffled Conversation, by Dreamflower

What a clever place to hide the scarf Dreamflower. I just loved the description of the wool and the dyeing. I could almost 'see' it and I want one just like it please. You are taking orders aren't you? I often wonder what I would grab if I had to leave in A hurry, (it wouldn't be the sensible things I am sure,) and my heart goes out to anyone who has had to abandon home and lose treasured possessions.

Authohr Reply from Dreamflower: I thought Pippin was pretty clever to think of it. I don't believe he would have wanted to be parted from it. LOL! I *am* making one (I think that's why this story came to me) but it's spoken for. One of the contributors to the second PippinHealer Round Robin will win it when it is finished. I am seeing that everyday. It breaks my heart. Several of my friends have lost everything, and no matter how many times they say "it's just stuff", I remember the special things they had, that they loved and are now forever gone... Dreamflower

What a lovely back story to a scarf that has taken on a life of its own. I love the way Pippin tucked it in the hem of his cloak - and that he offered it back to Frodo says a lot about his generosity.

Author's reply

Author Reply from Dreamflower: I came up with the idea that the scarf was a gift from Frodo, and had been one his mother made for Bilbo back when I wrote "Conspiracy". And then this whole little scenario just came to me full blown, of Frodo telling Pippin its story. I thought that it would be safe in the hem of an Elven cloak if anywhere. Pippin does have a sweet and generous nature, doesn't he? Dreamflower

No, I suppose he WOULDN'T think of trying to get by Eowyn, particularly after that story. Although that Eomer had learned to give in to her will so quickly certainly speaks of her decision to ride to war in spite of all orders to stay home and watch the folks there. She's quite the Mary Poppins of ME, I think. Heh!

Author Reply from Bodkin: The White Lady doesn’t have quite the bedside manner of the apple-cheeked one! No spoonsful of sugar to help her medicine go down. I think Pippin has enough experience of sisters to know when it’s not wise to give them any trouble. In fact, on reflection, that’s probably something he’s got in common with Éomer. (Who is, actually, a year younger than Pippin.)

harrowcat · 26 October 2005 · Chapter 5: Never Cross Swords with a Shield Maiden, by Bodkin

To dream of disobeying Merry's favourite Shield-maiden? I should think not! *g*

Author's reply

Author reply from Bodkin: Well, Pippin has three older sisters – I should think he has a pretty good grasp of just how far you can go with the lasses before your life is endangered!

Pearl Took · 25 October 2005 · Chapter 5: Never Cross Swords with a Shield Maiden, by Bodkin

Well done! It sounds the sort of tale Eowyn would tell, very 'to the point'.

Author's reply

Author's Reply from Bodkin: Even if she wasn’t in her Witch-King slaying gear, I think Pippin would think twice before messing with the White Lady. He knows his limits! And her bedside manner leaves him in no doubt that she’s no pussycat, even if her storytelling doesn’t.

Tigger · 20 October 2005 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

Poor Aragorn...I'll bet he wanted to hit his head against a brick after hearing just what story Bergil wanted to tell Pippin...ROTFLOL!!! I would *love* to see Pippin ask Aragorn about this. *snicker* This is a wonderful little series of fice. I hope there's more!!

Bodkin · 20 October 2005 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

I just love Bergil telling this story in all innocence. I'm not surprised that Aragorn was banging his head against the wall! And I'm pretty certain that it won't take long for Pippin's revelations to percolate through Minas Tirith. Such fun.

Elentariel · 19 October 2005 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

LOL!!! Evidently Bergil didn't realise that! I feel sorry for Aragorn/Elessar/Thorongil etc.

Larner · 18 October 2005 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

Oh, dear, I have a terrible cold, and this is making the cough worse! No wonder Aragorn was beating his head against the wall! And no wonder he left for the north posthaste! Oh, dear, this was priceless, and for Pippin to know who Thorongil was.... Lovely!

Pearl Took · 18 October 2005 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

Hehehehe What better entertainment than a story told on the High King!! Well done!

Pearl Took · 18 October 2005 · Chapter 3: A Knight to Remember, by Beruthiel

I love this one!! Pippin as Vinca repellant :)

Pearl Took · 18 October 2005 · Chapter 2: Silent Knight, by Shirebound

Pippin would feel strongly the need to be seen as the adult he had become. Wonderful to realize that Aragorn would no doubt have felt the same amongst the Elves. Well done as always :)

Pearl Took · 18 October 2005 · Chapter 1: Come Early, Come Late

Off we go :) You did write a wonderful first chapter!

harrowcat · 18 October 2005 · Chapter 4: Watchman, What of the Knight? by Elendiari

This needs a full scale laughter alarm not just a giggle alert Elendiari! Too much fun to read at work when I am SUPPOSED to be working. No wonder Aragorn wanted to bash his head against the wall - His past is coming to haunt him let alone the pirates! Now where are you posting the unedited version? I bet it rates more than a G!!!

Bodkin · 12 October 2005 · Chapter 3: A Knight to Remember, by Beruthiel

Pippin-management comes almost instinctively to his cousins. Those scrambled eggs made it down his gullet before he dropped off to sleep - and he can always demand a replay of the embarrassing Merry story when he wakes. I suspect his cousin will tolerate pretty much anything in return for a recovering Pippin. I loved the picture of Merry hovering jealously over his hoard of favourite things. And that he took the fact that nobody has ever caught anyone trying to grab them as proof positive that the toy-grabbers are sneaky rather than non-existent. Very funny that the first thing that draws Merry to Pippin is his value as a Pervinca-repellent.

Author's reply

I expect that they've been practicing Pippin-management all his life, don't you? What is hilarious to me is that we were at someone's house for dinner on the weekend, and they have a six-year-old boy, and I overhead the mother giving him a lecture to the effect that "No, they're not trying to steal your toys...!"

Larner · 11 October 2005 · Chapter 3: A Knight to Remember, by Beruthiel

I loved the tale originally--but with the introduction and afterward it is even more priceless! Poor Pippin--sleeps just as the story gets fully interesting! Love it!

Author's reply

I imagine he's going to have the story all over again... but that Frodo will be sure to wait until Merry is also available to hear it. *g*

harrowcat · 11 October 2005 · Chapter 3: A Knight to Remember, by Beruthiel

A possessive Merry is new to me but very plausable. Especially liked the closet scene, oh and ofcourse the need for Frodo to tell it again when Pippin wakes up.

Author's reply

On the weekend we were invited to dinner and I overheard the mom lecturing her six-year-old son while we were putting the meal together. "No, they are not trying to steal your toys! They just want to play with them!" It struck me very funny, for some reason.

Larner · 5 October 2005 · Chapter 2: Silent Knight, by Shirebound

Ah, a worthy goal indeed, although it was already achieved. Lovely imagery.

Author's reply

From Shirebound: Thank you so much.

Larner · 5 October 2005 · Chapter 1: Come Early, Come Late

The wound is obviously not quite healed. Poor Pippin--tired and having difficulty breathing.

lindahoyland · 4 October 2005 · Chapter 2: Silent Knight, by Shirebound

This was just lovely, I'm pleased I came across it.I greatly enjoy stories where Aragorn tends the Hobbits, poor brave Pippin.I liked Aragorn's advice to him.

Author's reply

From Shirebound: There's something endearing about the King of Men tending his small yet valiant friends, isn't there? I'm so happy you enjoyed this.

harrowcat · 4 October 2005 · Chapter 2: Silent Knight, by Shirebound

Ooh you've left me in a melting puddle of happy shivers with that last line Shirebound.

Author's reply

From Shirebound: Thanks, Harrowcat! And... I hope this bit o' fluff was a nice birthday present for you. :D
