My goodness, such a richly layered story!
Wonderfully done. You had me holding my breath, worried that the dragon would use the faerie folk to his advantage and then turn on them, but then... taken up into the sky, what a wonderful explanation! (Isn't Earendil in the sky, too? I forget, exactly.)
MEWD.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Lin! Yes, Earendil sails the skies with the Simaril and is seen as the morning and evening star. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story.
Thank you so much, Lin! And for the hugs as well, I'll take all of those I can get :)

So wonderful a story, Pearl. Yes, life and death are the two sides to the same coin.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Larner. This was one of those stories that I was very unsure about so I'm especially glad you liked it :-) Thank you!

Aha! A most fitting, fitting addition to your backstory for the Tooks. And I am so proud of this fairy and the dragon both. Now, what happens with the token in years to come, we wonders?
I love it when events in our own lives further inspire our muses.
Author's reply
Thank you, Larner :-)
I've no idea what happens to it :-( And if it didn't somehow get lost, it should have been mentioned in "While We Dwelt in Fear" - which it didn't as it hadn't been thought of yet . . . so . . . I don't know that we'll ever find out.

Ah...yet another gem in string of beautiful pearls! I loved the analogy of Pippin hugging his old friend...his old friend, indeed! Thank you for this ever-growing, exquisite "necklace". :-)

I love the layers of this - Merry and Pippin trying to fool Paladin and Saradoc - Paladin and Saradoc adding their own two-pennyworth - and Cullassss*** adding her own rather unearthly edge to the game. Splendid.
Author's reply
So glad you enjoyed it, Bodkin! It's interesting how small things can unexpectedly grow; like stories for instance ;-) Thank you!
And always the Ring loves to see others take on the burden of guilt, something those born to be responsible tend to do too often as it is.
Well written, Pearl.
Author's reply
Thank you, Larner. Yes, the Ring gets at everyone anyway it can and a soft hearted hobbit would be vulnerable indeed at a time like that.

Oh, wonderful, Pearl! And now, is it Frodo or Elves who linger watching on the eastern edge of that field, I wonder? But the wonder of knowing the prank has been added to so is immense.
Yes, there is MORE! Lovely!
Author's reply
Thank you, Larner! I've been asked to not say a word ;-) Glad you enjoyed it!

This is lovely, so funny and with just a hint of mystery lingering, even after most of the markings have been explained.

"There was more."
LOL!!!! Just great, Pearl!
I would have really liked to see their faces, first those of Merry and Pippin and then those of their fathers ;-)
Whoever it was, that made the pattern even more intricate than it already was, he must have had a lot of fun! Maybe it was faeries, maybe some lad from the neighbourhood, or maybe even Frodo (if he was also visiting)... Who knows?
In Germany we have a saying "Wer zuletzt lacht, lacht am besten". That would be "The one who laughs last, laughs best"! That's it, exactly :)
Author's reply
Thank you, Andrea! We have the same saying here in the States! Truly, who will ever know . . .
and even if I do, I'm not telling ;-)

That's a great story! Who were the other mischief makers? The Took daughters? It's great to hear something of Saradoc's and Paladin's youth as well.

· Chapter 24: Remembering Aright
I found this story a couple of weeks ago and, being a sentimental sort, had a good cry over it, and went on. But it has sort of stuck with me so today I decided to read it again. I thought that I wouldn't be so sappy over it the second time. True I'm not sobbing out loud this time, but I do have tears in my eyes, and that funny tight feeling in my chest (or should I say in my heart?). The haunting quality of the encounters, the bothers' relationship with each other, the enduring love between Merry and Pippin (strong enough to last beyond death), all are so clearly and realistically described that I feel it like it's happening to me. Balance that out with the oh-so-perfectly written humor, especially the little digs that I can just hear Merry and Pippin saying, and you've given us a wonderful story, one of the best I've read in fandom. And then, the image of the long-past cave-in at the end of the story adds that perfect "shiver up the spine" feeling to make this a truly haunting story, one I will treasure. Thank you , thank you more than I can express for this.
Author's reply
Wow! Thank you so much, Poppy :-) Wow! I'm wonderfully bowled over by your response. I'm so glad you like my Jebbin and Other stories. Because a fair number of folks mentioned they would like to know what happens next, I've started on a follow-up. It is barely begun at this point but I'm hoping the next installment will be posted either before the end of the year or early in the new year.
Again, thank you so very much!
Very nightmarish. Poor Pippin - this must have been about his lowest point and his greatest feeling of guilt. Well - until Amon Hen, anyway. And at least Gandalf came back. Very spooky.
Author's reply
Thank you, Bodkin! Yes, I figure Gandalf's fall and the palantir incident have to be two of his worst moments for regret over his own actions. Amon Hen at least wasn't just him as he and Merry both took off running, but helplessly watching Boromir get shot full of arrows had to be a hideous thing as well, knowing he had shown up just to help them. I loved how they did that in the movies, at first they're so stunned they can't even move.
I must have missed this one while off line with my internet troubles. This really gets into Pippin's head. It just seems like what he must have been thinking at that point. Excellent as always.
Author's reply
Thank you, GW!
I hope your computer troubles are over. That has to be a major drag :-( Thank you for saying that it does well with getting into Pippin's head!

Well - all that lovely water going to waste. It wouldn't be hobbity not to take advantage of it.
And Arwen took it very well! But trust Frodo to ruin the cover story.
Author's reply
Thank you, Bodkin!
It would have been *most* unhobbity indeed. I would think it takes a fair amount to rattle an Elf, they've been around so long.
Yes, frodo would make use of his position - seated at the end of the table nearest the door out of the kitchen ;-)

Oh, dear--trust Frodo to bring out the naked truth! Heh! YOu are definitely on a roll for nudity this morning, aren't you?

Well, as I said, these are from an old Marigold's Challenge that the stories had to have at least one naked hobbit in them *blushing*
How could Frodo resist?
Thank you, Larner :-)
