Larner · 27 October 2006 · Chapter 26: Certain Other Activities

Yes, when "certain activities" are in progress, having them interrupted by small children is always a possibility, and locks may indeed be desired. And I'm rather surprised that they WEREN'T asked questions the next morning! Heh!

Author's reply

This was based on an actual occurance . . . and oddly enough, no questions were asked. My daughter *still* hates hearing this story but is grateful she has no memory of it herself. Thank you, Larner!

Andrea · 27 October 2006 · Chapter 26: Certain Other Activities

*Giggles*, too ;-) That was great, Pearl! I particularly liked Pippin talking to the portrait of his parents. That I can very well imagine.

Author's reply

Cool! More giggles :-) Glad you enjoyed, Andrea. Yes, Pippin is the type to talk to paintings :-) Thank you!

Andrea · 27 October 2006 · Chapter 25: Hot Water

"Sing hey for the bath at close of day..." That's our Pippin - he only chose another time of day ;-) He might have got away with it . . . except for Frodo quickly stepping on Pippin’s trailing towel as he went past. ROTFL!!! Cheeky hobbit! And poor Pippin - what a morning!

Author's reply

Yes, I've the feeling none of them were fooled by Pip's claim that was his blanket. Thank you for reading and responding, Andrea!

SurgicalSteel · 27 October 2006 · Chapter 26: Certain Other Activities

Oh, this one was lovely, too! *giggles* I've written something along the same lines...

Author's reply

Oh good, more giggles :-) I'll have to check it out, SS. Thank you for reading and responding!

SurgicalSteel · 27 October 2006 · Chapter 25: Hot Water

*giggles* Oh, that was just adorable!

Author's reply

Thank you, SS :-) glad to make you giggle.

Bodkin · 18 October 2006 · Chapter 24: Remembering Aright

A very Tookish Took, is she? With green eyes, perchance? And a connection to a world she never speaks of? I do hope so. Gorgeous ending - just a little spooky, like everything to do with Culassisul. I think Jebbin and Other have taken on rather a job - and one that won't earn them much honour among their peoples. But the truth should be told. I wonder if they will meet again. Some time. In this world or another ...

Author's reply

Yes, she is :-) Green eyes? Yes, those too. Yes, she's different and knows it. I'm glad you liked the ending, Bodkin! And yes, the lads are in for some rough seas. Will they all meet again? I think they just might :-)

Larner · 16 October 2006 · Chapter 24: Remembering Aright

And this time the faerie saw to it that the truth is known and told. So, even Dwarves seem to be missing in this time, eh? And all too soon Hobbits too will fade into the hidden places. And three Hobbits long ago at the end acknowledged their griefs and left the Shire to finish their lives elsewhere, one able to follow Frodo, the other two doing the best they could in the world they inhabited. Bittersweet.

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :-) It's just fortunate that all the magical things in life haven't had to fade - like life itself!

Andrea · 16 October 2006 · Chapter 24: Remembering Aright

Tooks: no Brandybuck should go through life without one. How very true! And so it is no wonder that after some hundred years we come to know a Tookish Brandybuck ;-) (Must have something to do with Adelard and Mallow, I suppose?) Oh, I really like Jebbin and Other and their meeting with the ghosts of Meriadoc and Peregrin. And Athelas Took, of course. Now, that name is post-quest, I believe. She has to be a very special lady, for she is able to hear the voice of Culassisul, the faerie. “Tell them that hobbits are all we need to be, without magic of the kind in those false stories.” Pippin turned to look at the brothers and Athelas who had joined them on the floor. “Tell them we are strong, brave, loyal, loving, merciful and just.” “And that is all the magic anyone needs.” Merry added That's it, exactly! Even if there was some real magic needed to reveal the truth. P.S.: Did those hobbits really believe that Sam wrote the Red Book? He wrote the last part of it, that's true. But most of it was written by Bilbo and Frodo!

Author's reply

Good catch, Andrea! I'll have to work with that, but it really was a slip on my part. I was thinking in terms of the Red Book by then being associated with the Gamgee/Gardeners and the Fairbairns of the Towers who had it in their possession. Yes, Athelas is a "faerie blood" Took. Culassisul's line will last as long as there are Tooks :-) I'm so glad you enjoyed Jebbin and Other, thank you!

Daynawayna · 16 October 2006 · Chapter 24: Remembering Aright

:O :O ::tries...::: :O I.. I'm just.... WOW. ::squeals:: THATWASSOCOOL!! :D :D Wow, THANK YOU Pearl! I just loved it! And I'm so glad that your muse decided to show you the way! I'm so honored... thank you. :) It was just what I'd hoped it would be.. and I LOVE Athelas! OMG! You are so smart, throwing another "quest" name into the mix! Awesome! I like how the memory stuck with him... Jeb really is a smart hobbit. He knew, way deep down, that their truth was not truth and the vile lies were infact, truth, which would certainly bug him... whoops.. sorry! Didn't mean to "go tookish" on you! LOL. But I really like how you made that believable and kept the boys true characters into adulthood. And of course I always love seeing Mer and Pip again! :) And I have to admit, the "cave-in" threw me for a moment... but then I got it. GOD BLESS THE MAGIC. ;) THAT was just... wow. So cool. I'm honored, tickled, amazed.... thank you! :D

Author's reply

You are most definitely welcome, Daynawayna - thank you!! Actually, you, like Merry and Pippin in Fangorn, are the small stone starting an avalanche. People at Marigold's Challenge all said they want to know what happens next - what happens when Jebbin writes his book and starts telling the true story. That story is now in process, though I don't expect to post any of it too soon as I've a lot of other stuff to do and another challenge story to write. It will be more than one chapter I'm thinking. Keep an eye out for it! And again, thank *you* for the wonderful nudge! :-)

Daynawayna · 25 September 2006 · Chapter 23: "Remembering More"

ABSOLUTLEY WONDERFUL!!! What darling stories, Pearl! I love Jebbin and Other.. what cute hobbits! And the seamless blending of the 2 stories... wonderful. I love the *twisted history* the boys get, and I'm still blown away with our ghosties... how cute, clever, kind and loving they are. I do hope that one day, Jeb or Oth will re-discover that book and do some research and bring back the True Story of the Travellers and show that there is no dishonor in the TRUTH. Pretty pretty please? ::whispers to you:: I'm not above begging... and it IS my birthday on Wednesday.... LOL And I don't even know you! LOL I'm sorry, really, but I'd love to see something like that sometime. :) Thank you for the wonderful stories and God Bless. Dayna

Author's reply

Firstly, thank you so very much, Daynawayna :-) Such wonderful words, thank you. Secondly, I don't think I can get something done in time for your birthday, but . . . . . . I think you'll need to check out next month's Marigold's Challenge. Email me if you don't know how to get there ;-) I'm so glad you like Jebbin and Other so much!

Larner · 24 September 2006 · Chapter 23: "Remembering More"

How funny! The stories are exaggerated, and Merry and Pippin can't stand to see two little Hobbits upset by admitting the little book is right. And someone along the way wants that little book of the truth to stay where it is. Heh!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :-) I just couldn't imagine our lads hurting those little hobbits' feelings. Yes, the truth would remain hidden until Prof. Tolkien unearthed it :-)

Larner · 24 September 2006 · Chapter 22: "Remember"

Oh, no--Brandybucks wouldn't just exaggerate JUST a little now and then, would they? Heh!

Author's reply

No. Never. Only Tooks do such things ;-) Thank you, Larner :)

Armariel · 24 September 2006 · Chapter 23: "Remembering More"

WOnderful! What a delightful pair of hobbit kids...with their notions of what happened versus what REALLY happened (have dealt with that theme a bit myself, but maybe not so entertainingly) and the ghosts of M & P appearing....A lovely treat, thank you! Wondrous imagination that you have there....... ~~~{~@

Author's reply

Thank you, Armariel :-) I'm glad you enjoyed Jebbin & Other and the way the story of the Quest got changed a wee bit over the years ;-) Thank you for your kind words!

Elanor Silmariën · 28 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Oh, how sweet! I love your Elanor! And more faeries! *bounces* But it was also very sad, with Diamond dying. I liked how you showed how much Pippin loved her. God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

Thank you once again, Ellie :) My Pippin and Diamond are very much in love. I'm glad you like Culassisul and Galadriel putting in an appearance :)

Elanor Silmariën · 28 August 2006 · Chapter 20: "Don't You Worry About Me!"

Ooh, very interesting. I've never thought of what Bilbo was thinking when he left. I like it! God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Ellie :) Glad you enjoyed it!

Elanor Silmariën · 28 August 2006 · Chapter 19: Unruly Pony

*teehee* I can see Bilbo chasing after a pony like that! God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

Yes, the poor dear hobbit - and having to miss tea! A terrible thing ;-) Thank you for reading and responding, Ellie!

Elanor Silmariën · 28 August 2006 · Chapter 18: Dry as Tinder

Oh, Pippin is too cute! I think I missed this one in the Challenges, and I've been away for a while, so I missed it here too! I really enjoyed this story, despite the fact that I was just about as worried for Pippin as everyone else. (i'm terrified of fires!) God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

Thank you, Ellie :) I'm glad you caught up with this story and that you enjoyed it!

Bodkin · 28 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

I love it that Elanor has a touch of the magic that surrounds Pippin and his distant ancestress! I wonder if any of her children have inherited it - and whether it will persist, like Pippin's faerie blood. Good thing that Diamond returned to tell her beloved that it was all right for him to grieve and laugh and continue to live until his time came - loyalty is one of Pippin's best qualities, but it could tie him in knots here!

AspenJules · 21 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Oh my, Pearl! I absolutely loved this, though I have tears in my eyes. I love your "Falcon" stories, though apparently I've missed some of your Elanor stories. Can you tell me in which ones she comforts Frodo, Merry and Sam? Oh, and your husband sounds delightful! Isn't it wonderful to have hubbies who love sweet, beautiful stories? Mine isn't into fanfiction, but he will happily go see what most consider "chick-flick" movies with me, and will often be seen wiping his eyes at the emotional parts. (He's not ashamed as long as I don't make a big deal about it - which is hard because my daughter and I just love that about him and think it's so adorable!)

Author's reply

There are few things as adorable as a guy who gets emotional :) My husband is more so as we get older, though he's always enjoyed "chick flicks". My son has always been emotional over stories, movies etc. I have two stories where Elanor, with her connection to the White Lady, brings comfort. One is "In the Dark Before Dawn" the other is "Elanor's Gift". In the first she is still a little lass, in the second she is twenty and it is specifically referred to in this story. Thank you for reading, responding and for asking after the other stories, AspenJules :) I'm so glad you ejoyed this tale!

Armariel · 20 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Ohhh my......*sniffsniff*.....how absolutely beautiful!! Your writing is heavenly. Please thank your husband for me! ~~~{~@

Author's reply

Thank you, Armariel :) I will pass your thanks along!

PIppinfan1988 · 20 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Such a beautiful...wonderful story. I do love your Elanor and her "sixth sense" that seems to be entwined with the Lady's. You already must know that I love your Pippin, too! That is so like Pippin to be brave and strong for those around him. I am glad that he got one last glimpse of the love of his life, to dance with her, because I know what that dance means to them. :-) Very beautiful tale indeed! Pippinfan

Author's reply

Sorry, RL slowing down responses. Thank you, m'dear Pippinfan :) Yes, I know you love my Pippin *blushing* I should have done a bit more with the dance and some reminiscing with Elanor for those who haven't read "Peregrin and Diamond". I have a bad tendancy to forget such things. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story :)

Garnet Took · 19 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful, Pearl. I felt a little like Elanor, waiting to see when the dam would burst. And then to have it actually be such a sweet, loving moment--that was amazing Thanks so much for such a loving look at the end of a life and the beloved who must keep living. Wow! What else can I say? Thanks. Garnet Took.

Author's reply

You are most welcome, GT :-) I've always felt hobbits would be good at getting on with living. My hubby loves sweet, loving moments. Thank you for reading and your kind words!

Grey Wonderer · 19 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Beautiful! I always read stories with character death a bit hesitantly but this had such joy for continuing life in it and I adored Elanor. More of your wonderful fairie too! Adored it!

Author's reply

Thank you so very much, GW :-) I'm happy you enjoyed Elanor, faerie and all. Life does go on, as it truly should. Diamond wouldn't want us to mourn over much.

Larner · 19 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Your husband ordered you to write this, did he? How wonderful! And an Elf and a Faerie between them were able to help Diamond effect her own release, and that of Pippin from his overwhelming grief. And Elanor is a gift to all four.... Beautiful.

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :-) My husband's favorite of my stories is "Peregrin and Diamond". He always liked little Elanor in that, and again in a few of my other stories where she has helped Pippin, Sam and Merry. He suggested that I have her somehow helping Pippin when Diamond passed away. As for Galadriel and Elanor . . . "[Elanor] became known as 'the Fair' because of her beauty; many said that she looked more like an elf-maid than a hobbit. she had golden hair . . ." I just figured it was something to do with all that Elven soil that Sam had spread all over the Shire. He had to have breathed some of it in ;-)

Dreamflower · 19 August 2006 · Chapter 21: "Mourning Missed"

Oh, Pearl! *sniff* Beautiful, my dear!

Author's reply

Thank you, Dreamflower :-) I'm glad you liked it!
