O boy that letter must be such a relief to Legolas, to know that his father loves him so much. He may not yet know exactly who he his himself, but he knows he is loved. Great chapter.
Author's reply
Thank you very much!! I think Legolas needs all of the love and support he can get so a letter from his father was just what the doctor (or healer) ordered :o)

Thankfully he is now safely in Elronds capable hands! If anyone is able to help Legolas, it would be him. Once Elrond pulls off his amazing healing of Legolas, and Legolas is able to reconnect with Estel, it's justice time, right?
Curiousity begs me to ask - are they going to inform the ElfKing of his son's plight, and if so, how do you think he would take it? Not meaning to sidetrack you, but you have written everything so well that I can almost SEE his reaction to his son being hanged for protecting a mortal - even if or especially because said mortal is the Heir to the throne of Gondor!
Author's reply
Hmm, justice for the bad guys? That seems to be a popular request. We'll have to wait and see. As for Thranduil's reaction, read the next chapter to see :o)

What a lovely emotional chapter. I was touched by the other four elves attempts to connect with Legolas and thier concern for him and his wounds. You depicted wonderfully an annesiac's confusion and strife for memory. The little home-coming welcome from Elrond was also so touching and loving. He is one well loved Elfy. Lovely chapter, Nettie.
Author's reply
Thank you so much! I am happy that you liked it. I tend to enjoy writing the mushy, touchy/feely stuff better than the action so the end of this story was a lot of fun for me and I'm glad that you are enjoying it as well.

It's good to see that Legolas feels he can trust the elves he's with, even if he doesn't remember them. I still think that seeing Aragorn will help him with his recovery, eventhough he might be scarred of him at first. After all Aragorn might at first remind him of the attackers.
You're doing a great job here, so keep it up.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am glad that you are enjoying the story. Estel and Legolas' meeting is still yet to come.

Well - they've got him back to a safe place - and the healing hands of Elrond - but it's not going to be easy to overcome this trauma. He does seem to have some instinctive trust of elves - and responds well to the treatment they have managed so far.
I don't know what he'll think of Aragorn, though. That could be a problem yet to be faced. His recent experience with men isn't likely to enthuse him about the young heir of Isildur.

You're doing a nice job of working in details of setting and description, Nettie. I have a hard time doing that myself, so I admire it. Legolas is in good hands at last, thank Eru.

Well - he survived! But he's still not well.
Angrod was sensible to keep quiet until they got away - and I'm not surprised that the others found it hard to believe that poor Legolas had survived the hanging. And I'm not surprised that the traumatised elf went straight into flee mode. Not that it will do his health any good!
But I really hope that the scummy men get their comeuppance. Vile bunch.
Author's reply
Thank you! I'm glad that it wasn't too unbelievable then. I was surprised to find out, when doing research, that people have been revived 30 minutes after hanging...That's a long time :o)

I must admit that I have been very lazy in leaving reviews (for which I apologize) though I have been following this wonderful story all along.
You've done such a fine job in detailing the plight of Legolas and his loss of memory that I've felt his confusion, pain and frustration right along with him. It must have been totally overwhelming for him to be alone amongst the men with no memory of his past, and some of those men are mighty evil. I hope they get their just dessert in the end even though Legolas managed to escape them.
Now that Legolas is among his own kind, hopefully the memory will come back and he can put this all behind him.
Excellent job!
Author's reply
I believe reviews are a priviledge, not a right so I don't expect anyone to leave them, but I am flattered when they do, especially when they are as nice as yours :o) Thank you very much!!!

Yeah, I expected him to live as well, but it must be horrid for his rescuers. Concerned and thinking him dead, then relief that he was alive, only to find he doesn't know them! Oh, and i'm with Daw - the bad med definately deserve what's coming (hopefully!), besides, they can't keep Legolas's long knife - that's just wrong!;)
Author's reply
You know, when you put it like that, I was pretty horrible to the search party wasn't I...thinking him dead, finding him about to be hanged, thinking him dead again and then finding him with no memory, not very nice indeed.
You're the first one to show concern for Legolas' knife so just for you I will see what I can do about getting it returned to it's owner ;o)

Wow, this chapter sent shivers down my spine. Poor Legolas, still not recognising any of his friends, it's amazing how those kind of injuries can cause such things to happen. Indeed he's still quite a formidable foe because of his training and they are just lucky he's in such bad conditions, they would have never been able to find him otherwise.
I think the only thing that will really be able to give him his memory back will be him seeing Aragorn, when they get him back to Imladris.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Legolas is one of those elves that could avoid being seen if he really wanted to. Hide and seek with an elf must be a very frustrating experience ;o) I'm glad that you liked the chapter and thank you for reviewing!!!

· Chapter 17: The Rescue
I'm hoping that the news of Legolas's death has been exaggerated. Leandir's smile seems to suggest that it could be so. But I hope the elves will be back to carry out their revenge on those scummy men. Take them off, perhaps, to face an elven trial for what they have done, before a court that is just as prejudiced against them as that narrow-minded bunch were against anyone who was not them. (Although they would be hard-pushed to find elves that petty.)
I suspect the rescue party was handicapped by a desire not to kill anyone, while the nasty men had no such scruples. I am moved to hope that they attack the elves, actually - as it is probably the only way they will end up satisfactorily dead.
I'm glad Leandir left the fighting to the elves and focused on cutting Legolas down - otherwise the rescue party would definitely have been too late.
Author's reply
I have always interpreted the elves as more peace-loving and never really the revenge/death type. But, that isn't to say that the waylayers won't get theirs, I just couldn't let them off that easy. More to come :o) and thanks for reviewing!!!

An other fine chapter you wrote here.
I just love the action going, but I'm somewhat amazed that Elladan was able to keep himself from killing that Thad guy. I don't think he really deserved that, but then again, the elves might just want to bring him to justice a bit slower than that :)
Luckily elves are that strong build and that Leandir cut Legolas sown in time, even if he tells the men and elves different.
The elves will know beter though, and somehow I don't think Thad and his men will get away that easily.
