Oh welcome, welcome back! And when you return with such a wonderful snippit you are doubly welcome!

Author's reply

Thank you very much! Have a Merry Christmas :)

Bodkin · 4 January 2007 · Chapter 26: Duty: East or West? (A. only)

'Your Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail, to the ruin of all.' Very deep. Full of meaning. But not very helpful! In the end going with gut instinct was probably the best he could do - and it worked out all right in the end!

meckinock · 1 January 2007 · Chapter 26: Duty: East or West? (A. only)

Hehe. Galadriel really knows how to crank the pressure lever, doesn't she? I think sometimes people perceive Aragorn as arrogant because of the periodic Narsil-waving outbreaks of "Aragorn son of Aragorn heir of Isildur Elendil's son of Numenor Elessar Telcontar" but you've really brought out here a much deeper humility and strength that I think is a truer side of his character. Repeatedly throughout the quest he expressed, not arrogance or overconfidence, but doubt and anguish over the responsibilities and choices laid on him, and it's a sign of his strength that even while suffering grief he wasn't crushed or paralyzed by responsibility, but repeatedly rose to the occasion. You've really brought out here the anguish he must have felt in Lorien and again at Parth Galen at the decisions he had to make. Happy New Year, Suvi.

'All that I have done today has gone amiss. What is to be done now?'" That cry is one of the sentences that stands out like a beacon in the book. This is a lovely amplification of it.

Larner · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Duty: East or West? (A. only)

And the final disposition of the Ring was NOT his to deal with; yet without the coming of the northern Dunedain and them accompanying him through the Paths of the Dead so much would have been lost. At the last the choice he made was the right one.

shirebound · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 26: Duty: East or West? (A. only)

Happy birthday, Suvi!!! :D You really bring out the agony of indecision Aragorn went through. He never showed any arrogance in insisting that others follow his orders, or go where he demanded. What a wonderful Ranger-king he would become.

Bodkin · 28 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

Poor Aragorn. Can't even raid his own larder without having people anxious to serve him. Still - he'll get them round to his way of doing things. In a couple of decades.

Author's reply

I like your thinking. *g* I have a feeling that there will be those who will fight for a long time to get him used to *their* ways. Quite a battle... and a bit of an amusing one to onlookers. Anyways, Happy New Year!

meckinock · 25 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

Wow, there would be an auspicious start to the Days of the King- getting clocked by the cook. He's lucky she recognized him, actually - would have been pretty funny if they had to summon Faramir to vouch for him. I really do agree it would have been very difficult for Aragorn to get used to people waiting on him - and knowing his every move.

Author's reply

Oh goodness... if she *hadn't* recognized him, I could only imagine how embarassed she would have been, then! That would be a very, very funny scenario. And, personally, I'm not quite sure if he ever got completely used to people serving him and knowing where he was, all the time. Anyways, Happy New Year, my friend :)

Larner · 24 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

Nor can I see Aragorn wishing to waken someone else just to get an apple at night. And the reaction of the cook is priceless.

Author's reply

Thank you very much, Larner. And I do love the cook. *g* Happy New Year!

Raksha The Demon · 24 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

I would have expected Aragorn to have to pass guards outside the King's chambers. Otherwise, this is a credible and amusing tale. Loved the bit with the indignant cook, scolding the thief only to find that it's the King himself. Poor lady had quite a shock there. I wonder if she'll start sending apples to the King's bedchamber every night; though I think Aragorn really needed the walk as well as the fruit.

Author's reply

Well, d'oh! That was a silly overlook on my part; I shall try to not forget that again. Anyways, I am glad you liked it, despite that very silly mistake. Happy New Year!

Elflingimp · 24 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

That was humorus,he's lucky she didnt hit over the head with a pan! LOL

Author's reply

*dies laughing* I can imagine her horror if she did! Oh, man, that would be absolutely priceless! Anyways, Happy New Year!

shirebound · 24 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

That's a lovely scene. I'm sure news of this "odd incident" will have spread throughout the staff by morning! And this is a nice insight into the king who will always still be a Ranger: He wanted to know his new home as well as he had known previous places he had resided in; it gave him some sort of comfort to know his surroundings well.

Author's reply

LOL, I'm sure it would! I can see all of the servants gossiping about it for a few days, at the least. And I myself could not see Aragorn *not* knowing his surroundings well. I'm sure he probably explored all of Minas Tirith as well.

AspenJules · 24 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

Oh, this was such fun! I could just see him frozen there at her challenge, feeling like a naughty little boy caught sneaking food. Yet I entirely sympathize with him not wanting to bother another person just because *he* wants something. How annoying it would be to have people expecting to do everything for you instead of just doing it yourself. That would have had to be a huge adjustment for such an independent man, not to mention the staff.

Author's reply

I agree completely. I know I could never just go and bother some stranger for my own needs in my own home. I could not even imagine how long Aragorn took to adjust to it all; as it is, in some things he may have never adjusted. Happy New Year!

harrowcat · 24 December 2006 · Chapter 25: Hunger: A Quick Bite (A. + OC)

Yep, *grins*, that last sentence just about sums our Aragorn up completely! Happy Christmas!

Author's reply

I do believe it does; he was never quite like others. *g* Hope your Christmas was good. Happy New Year!

meckinock · 17 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Dark: Cave-in (A. + Halbarad)

Gotta love a good cave-in story. And with my two favorite characters, no less! They seem to be in a tough spot, but not without their sense of humor, at least. I can empathize that they are not looking forward to the ribbing that will be coming their way when they're rescued. BTW If I've had any part in inspiring you to write about Halbarad, I'm thankful. It's even more fun reading about him than writing about him.

Author's reply

Cave-ins are one of my favorites; always so reliable to collapse down on unsuspecting characters. Oh, and neither of them will live it down for quite a while *g* Oh, your Halbarad is one of my biggest Halbarad-inspirations. I am glad you liked reading about him :)

Grumpy · 16 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Dark: Cave-in (A. + Halbarad)

Aragorn and Halbarad would manage to find a bunch of rocks willing to fall down on them the moment they pass by.

Author's reply

Those rocks, always very handy and reliable. Can't do without them.

Bodkin · 16 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Dark: Cave-in (A. + Halbarad)

Poor Aragorn. That story will no doubt come back to haunt him in the years to come. Just like Maendir's self-wounding legend. Good for a bit of cousinly bonding, though!

Author's reply

*grins evilly* But that is the fun part, is it not? Haunting, embarassing stories of the past... much fun all around. Thanks for the review :)

websterans · 14 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Dark: Cave-in (A. + Halbarad)

Great fun. Just a nice read, all around.

Author's reply

Thank you very much :)

Larner · 14 December 2006 · Chapter 24: Dark: Cave-in (A. + Halbarad)

How can I complain when I've followed the same route? No, they're not going to live this down soon.

Author's reply

*g* It's a fun route, to be sure. BTW, thank you very much for sticking around and reviewing pretty much every chapter. I really appreciate it.

Larner · 14 December 2006 · Chapter 23: Stranger: The Stranger in the Corner (A. + hobbits)

Yes, poor Strider was indeed the stranger. However, that will change....

AspenJules · 7 December 2006 · Chapter 16: Trust: Finding Rest (A. + Frodo + Sam)

I really liked this one! I'm going back and catching up on those I've missed, and so I actually read this one after reading "The Stranger in the Corner" which makes this one even more poignant. Not such a stranger anymore now. And I think both your Aragorn and Sam voices are right on. You did a brilliant Sam. Great job, and good luck with your school year.

Author's reply

Thank you very much. This chapter probably is an excellent follow up to "Stranger", and I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks again :)

harrowcat · 5 December 2006 · Chapter 23: Stranger: The Stranger in the Corner (A. + hobbits)

I am sorry that RL is being tough for you - hope it improves soon. Great chapter though. Would love to see a follow up where Strider suddenly finds that he is no longer a stranger to these hobbits.

Author's reply

Thank you- you know how life is. Up and down all the time. As for an follow up... well, we'll certainly have to see. In Chapter 16 "Trust" it shows Sam Gamgee giving his trust to him, which is a huge leap, but I have not yet decided myself when the hobbits start to completely trust him. I'd definitely have to reread FOTR to find a place. But that is definitely an interesting idea. Thanks for reviewing :)

grumpy · 4 December 2006 · Chapter 23: Stranger: The Stranger in the Corner (A. + hobbits)

All those years and just a stranger, but he is a good stranger.Good thing that he had that letter from Gandalf.

Author's reply

Good thing, indeed! As it is, part of me wonders how he would have convinced the hobbits otherwise, if Gandalf did not send the letter- I do not think it would be as easy as the movies make it out to be. Thanks for reviewing.

Bodkin · 4 December 2006 · Chapter 23: Stranger: The Stranger in the Corner (A. + hobbits)

Poor Strider. He spent his whole life being an outsider. And, in some ways, that's what he remained to the end! King, yes - but the only one of his kind, separate from the rest of Gondor. Those of the Fellowship must have been extra important to him - the only people with whom he shared a kind of equality.

Author's reply

You know, you are completely correct; even as king, he was separated from his people by his status. And I imagine those in the Fellowship were some of his only true friends. Sometimes you really have to feel for him. Thanks for reviewing :)

RS · 3 December 2006 · Chapter 23: Stranger: The Stranger in the Corner (A. + hobbits)

I hope real life gets better for you and I am truly sorry for your loss. With all the things going on in your life it has not affected your writing ability. This is truly a gem. This made Aragorn's persona more so enigmatic...just so mysterious. Wonderful!

Author's reply

Thank you, RS. And I am so glad you think that- truly a wonderful compliment! :) Thank you very much!
