Linda Hoyland · 31 August 2008 · Chapter 37: Forest: The Lady of the Wood (A. + Galadriel)

An enjoyable story about a fascinating part of Aragorn's story. I liked your Galadriel. A couple of suggestions. You have a typo here " would bade you,". It should be "would bid you", also "pants" sounds very modern and in the UK,usually means underwear.Maybe trousers would read better.

Author's reply

Thanks Linda, I'm glad you liked her. I fixed the typo, and as for 'pants', I did not realize how modern it was until I looked up its etymology. Tolkien himself uses "breeches", so I'll be using that in the future. Thank you for the advice.

RS · 31 August 2008 · Chapter 37: Forest: The Lady of the Wood (A. + Galadriel)

I feel giddy just reading this knowing what (or should I say who) Aragorn will find on his walk! Excellent job on Galadriel....so mysterious!

Author's reply

Thank you! I am glad you liked her.

Estelcontar · 30 August 2008 · Chapter 37: Forest: The Lady of the Wood (A. + Galadriel)

A very subtle and delicate vignette on what might have occurred between Galadriel and Aragorn before she sent him on his way to meet Arwen. I liked your wise and caring Galadriel. Both she and the mood of this piece felt very faithful to the book.

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Larner · 30 August 2008 · Chapter 37: Forest: The Lady of the Wood (A. + Galadriel)

Ah, it's conniving she is! Heh!

Author's reply

Of course she is. She's Galadriel :) Thanks for reviewing.

shirebound · 30 August 2008 · Chapter 37: Forest: The Lady of the Wood (A. + Galadriel)

“While you may have need to hide your identity elsewhere in the world, you shall be as you were meant to be in this wood.” I like this very much. The Lady has created a wonderful refuge and sanctuary for weary spirits such as his, and her actions and decisions are enhanced by the foresight and ability to see into the hearts of those who come to her.

Author's reply

I am glad you enjoyed this, Shirebound. I truly do believe she knew her part to play in the future of the world, which is why she encouraged Aragorn to dress all nicely. I think she knew that he and Arwen would meet.

UTFROG98 · 30 August 2008 · Chapter 37: Forest: The Lady of the Wood (A. + Galadriel)

My, my, I wonder who he saw on his walk in the woods? Beautiful little story! Thanks

Author's reply

Oh goodness, I could never guess :) Thank you for the review!

Linda Hoyland · 29 August 2008 · Chapter 36: Fear: Shadows of the Night (A. + Legolas + Elves + Enemies)

I liked this as I've always thought this was the time Aragorn and Legolas first met and you you give a plausible background for Aragorn's knowledge of the Nazgul.Very inventive and convincing.

Author's reply

Thank you, I am glad you thought it convincing; always a more difficult aspect when writing fan fiction.

Estelcontar · 27 August 2008 · Chapter 36: Fear: Shadows of the Night (A. + Legolas + Elves + Enemies)

Nicely thought of, Lairë. And very possible too. It explains why Aragorn knew how to deal with the Nazgûl when he met them again at Amon Sûl; it explains that quote which headed your story, and it also gives a plausible explanation of how Aragorn met Legolas. Well done.

Author's reply

Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed it, Estelcontar :)

Larner · 26 August 2008 · Chapter 36: Fear: Shadows of the Night (A. + Legolas + Elves + Enemies)

Excellent reasoning to place this encounter at this time. And am glad to learn where he came upon the knowledge that aided him the chase off the Nazgul at Amon Sul.

Author's reply

I was always curious as to how he learned it, myself, so I thought it reasonable to add it in there. Thanks for the review.

harrowcat · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 36: Fear: Shadows of the Night (A. + Legolas + Elves + Enemies)

The ficlet is great Ainu Laire. I agree with your formal interaction of Legolas and Aragorn. The notes are also good to have.

Author's reply

Thank you- and I am glad you like the notes, and are as interested in details as I am.

demeter d · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 36: Fear: Shadows of the Night (A. + Legolas + Elves + Enemies)

Nicely detailed, well researched. By the time "Strider" and the Hobbits had the encounter with the Ringwraiths on the slope of Weathertop, Aragorn knew to face them with fire. He had to have learned that somwhere. As for the formality between the two; I have read many very good tales proposing that a very young Estel could have met Legolas during contacts with the Elrondion twins. I am more inclined to believe that Legolas and his fellow Wood Elves did not have much contact with mortals except for the ones in the Laketown and Dale area. I like your timing as to how they might have met. You have created an atmosphere here. Their fear is well described.

Author's reply

Thank you very much for the long, thoughtful review! I am glad that my small bit of research paid off. :)

Estelcontar · 12 August 2008 · Chapter 35: Birthday: Everlasting Memories (A. + Elrohir)

Lairë, this was a very tender vignette. I'm glad that after the heart-breaking period Aragorn must have spent alone in the wild after his mother's death, you made him enjoy the comfort, affection and love of his foster family in Imladris. Well done.

Linda Hoyland · 11 August 2008 · Chapter 35: Birthday: Everlasting Memories (A. + Elrohir)

I'm glad Aragorn received a warm welcome.

Larner · 11 August 2008 · Chapter 35: Birthday: Everlasting Memories (A. + Elrohir)

Oh, I can see him forgetting his own birthday from time to time, out in the wild and losing track of which day is which. Lovely wakening there! Poor Elrohir, almost getting throttled for his impatience! Wonderful to know the Man is still loved here, of all places within Middle Earth.

Larner · 11 August 2008 · Chapter 34: Enemy: The Palantír (A. + Sauron)

I truly like this scenario very well. I doubt that Sauron was aware of Arwen and the love she and Aragorn shared, although I suspect he did know that there was an heir of Isildur knocking about somewhere. This form of taking the Palantir's awareness from Sauron is well done.

Baggins Babe · 11 August 2008 · Chapter 35: Birthday: Everlasting Memories (A. + Elrohir)

This is such a wonderful look at the love between Aragorn and his brothers and how he is still in their hearts even when away from home. I'm reminded of the line in 'The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen' when it describes how Arwen watched over him while he was in the Wild. A beautiful tale.

shirebound · 11 August 2008 · Chapter 35: Birthday: Everlasting Memories (A. + Elrohir)

he could not help but be touched that his foster family still remembered his birthday That's very heartwarming. :)

Estelcontar · 9 August 2008 · Chapter 34: Enemy: The Palantír (A. + Sauron)

That's a eerie version of the palantír confrontation. It shows Aragorn's strenght in wrestling the palantír to his will.

Linda Hoyland · 7 August 2008 · Chapter 34: Enemy: The Palantír (A. + Sauron)

A gripping account of Aragorn's chilling encounter with Sauron.

Larner · 2 August 2008 · Chapter 33: Acceptance: Before the Dawn (A. + Gandalf)

It is a valid question he asks, and he will know the answer soon enough, of course.

Author's reply

Yes, though some people do not believe that those in power have the right to ask such questions. Always a thought I found odd. Thanks for reviewing.

RS · 1 August 2008 · Chapter 33: Acceptance: Before the Dawn (A. + Gandalf)

Although he will be the most "powerful man in arda", he is also humble, so unsure. That's why (your) Aragorn is so likeable. "You know I would do anything for her, and I have. It is her that I desire; the power came with it. " Although this is piece is not a romance by any means, this sentence makes it kind of.... romantic. I really enjoyed this.

Author's reply

Well, thank you! While I am sure that Aragorn had a good amount of confidence, and maybe a touch of arrogance, I cannot imagine him without his humility as well. I certainly cannot claim to be a romantic writer, but I am glad that you liked that line. Arwen really did seem the only reason Aragorn went for the throne at times. Thanks for the review!

utfrog · 1 August 2008 · Chapter 33: Acceptance: Before the Dawn (A. + Gandalf)

Excellent story. I am especially fond of stories showing events just after the war and early in Aragorn's reign. There had to have been so much going on both good and bad. Thanks

Author's reply

I personally love stories in the early years of Aragorn's reign, myself. It must have been a difficult time for those high up in Gondor, though, handling all the post-war issues. Thanks for the review.

Grumpy · 16 March 2008 · Chapter 32: Stars: Where the Stars Are Strange (A. only)

After Aragorn gets his water, he should make a dash for points north, cooler for one thing and Arwin is waiting for him, only she does not know it.

Larner · 12 March 2008 · Chapter 32: Stars: Where the Stars Are Strange (A. only)

Ah--what a wonderful wish, to see familiar sights once more, and the stars had been the one familiar sight he could count upon even in Gondor when he arrived there. Well told.

Nefhiriel · 7 March 2008 · Chapter 31: Touch: Hands (A. + Gilraen)

Heh, I've had the alert for this sitting in my inbox, and I finally got the time to catch up on reading... Very sweet little piece, mellon-nin. Nice to read about Gilraen for a change. Reading such fics always makes me feel guilty for reading/writing stories where she's conveniently "gone" from the picture. ^^

Author's reply

LOL, I started writing Aragorn-based fan fiction at an age where I was old enough to not be afraid to write her, so it's ok, I don't blame you :P She is a fascinating character, to say the least.
