Edlyn · 24 August 2007 · Chapter 32: Disquiet - A Tribble (Denethor)

Wonderful, Sharon! I really like how you get into Denethor's head. It's also nice to read a Denethor that isn't a congenital psychopath...(you know, a psych major could probably write a really good thesis on the assumptions of psychpathy made by fan-fiction writers in the LOTR fic-verse). Well written and a wonderful handling of the character. Hugs, Edlyn

Author's reply

Having been 'touched' by the suicide of someone I loved deeply, I could NOT let Denethor die without some sort of 'apology' being made for him. He was sick. Darn it all. His mind malfunctioned and he had a 'brain attack' much as someone else would have a heart attack. (IMHO) I spoke with a friend who is a psych BEFORE I started writing my 10,000 Years epic - for I wasn't sure about the whys and the wherefors (as if anyone could be sure of such things)... and she approved of where I was heading with Denethor. So - I thank you for the comment - it is always nice to have affirmation of a stand that is not generally accepted by others! Blessings!

Nariel · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 31: Helcaraxë – A Quintdrabble (Finrod/Galadriel)

This is very good. I liked how Finrod had despised his sister at that moment. You have done a great job. Will you be writing more on characters from The Silmarillion? Namarie!

Author's reply

Thanks, Nariel - I started a story with flashbacks to the Sil - to the time Oropher left Doriath and went east. But my lack of knowledge of the Sil - though I've read it four times in the last four years - is woefully inadequate for such a tale. I really want to get back to it - perhaps I'll reread that blasted book and try again. I like what I wrote so far, but I got a little concerned... I try to keep my stuff as close to canon as possible... and canon for the Sil is a challenge! Thanks for your comments and your encouragement!

Pearl Took · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 32: Disquiet - A Tribble (Denethor)

Another one of your wonderful looks at Denethor! He walked a hard road in many ways. Beautiful!

Author's reply

Thanks, PT - As you know, I do love Denethor. I hate the suffering he went through.... drat!

Pearl Took · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 31: Helcaraxë – A Quintdrabble (Finrod/Galadriel)

This is haunting even though I'm not familiar with the story it is based upon. Very well written!

Author's reply

It is an incredibly sad tale - very short - and one might not realize the horror of the march - but it is as disturbing as the kinslaying itself - perhaps more since Feanor talked his people into defying the Valar and then abandoned them to death or worse. Oh! Hideous tale. But this history colored the Elves from them on!

Pearl Took · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 30: The Pit - A Tribble (Boromir/Aragorn)

Poor, poor Boromir! I always felt so sorry for him. He was so torn.

Author's reply

Really stinks, doesn't it PT, to see someone you love so very torn and headed toward disaster???? Bwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! Thanks for commiserating with me!

Pearl Took · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 29: Filaments - A Drabble (Legolas)

Interesting! Thank you for the wee note, otherwise I would not have know who it was.

Author's reply

Ah - it could have been any in Mirkwood... but the Elf has a tendency to get himself into fixes...

Pearl Took · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 28: The Lady and the Servant - A Drabble (Galadriel/Sam/Frodo)

aw, such a hobbity thing for dear Sam to do - lie down amongst the lovely flowers. And he would blush near to death! LOL Very nice :-)

Author's reply

And to be seen doing it by the Lady Galadriel - how incredibly embarrassed. I'm glad Celeborn wasn't with her at the time - the poor Hobbit wouldn't have lived through that much embarrassment!

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 32: Disquiet - A Tribble (Denethor)

Yes, reason to fear--too much reason to fear, and fear makes a poor basis on which to build policy. Another way in which the Enemy snared him.

Author's reply

Once Faramir had betrayed him (at least that's the way he looked at the incident at HA), and Boromir was lost to him, he certainly had a lot to fear! *shudders*

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 31: Helcaraxë – A Quintdrabble (Finrod/Galadriel)

Yes, a moment of horror as they realize just how far they have fallen in following Feanor's words.

Author's reply

With no recourse, in their minds' eyes, Larner. Only to go forward and risk death or to return to the punishment of the Valar...

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 30: The Pit - A Tribble (Boromir/Aragorn)

Even now he knows the Ring assaults him, and he is likely to be lost in the end.

Author's reply

Hi, Larner. Thanks for the comment. I've always had a hard time with the fact that Gandalf surmised that Boromir was struggling and that Galadriel herself was concerned... I truly hope that, PJ notwithstanding, Aragorn might have tried to comfort him.

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 29: Filaments - A Drabble (Legolas)

Poor Elf! Caught by spiders? Hope others are there to help get him out of this!

Author's reply

I refuse to follow that plot bunny! There are others who write Legolas a LOT better than I do! Thanks for the comment!

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 28: The Lady and the Servant - A Drabble (Galadriel/Sam/Frodo)

Poor, embarrassed Samwise!

Author's reply

Yup - though his relationship with Frodo would have made at least that last encounter not as embarrassing as the first - but it did exacerbate the feeling! LOL - dear Sam!

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 27: Fallen - An AU Drabble (Theoden/Theodred)

I can certainly appreciate how it is this led to your AU series. Ah, how possible it could have been.

Author's reply

Odd how the little plot bunnies can wreak havoc with us!

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 26: Frodo at the Battle of Bywater - A Drabble (Frodo)

And so the Ring continues its raking of his very heart. Yet he continues to fight to be other than It would have made him.

Author's reply

What I found difficult, Larner, was the fact that his friends didn't understand him at all. And yet, I found it hard to understand him. For wasn't the Shire why he went to Mordor? And it was still held in siege by the very forces of Mordor. Very sad times - and for those sad times to be in the Shire made it doubly, no quadruply more difficult and sad.

Larner · 21 August 2007 · Chapter 25: Fey Were His Thoughts - A Tribble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

Ah, definitely movie-verse and well done! Redeemed indeed. And hope is still with them with these two embodiments of it.

Author's reply

It's funny about hope and LOTR - many times it seems that the theme is hope but even Faramir, when he's talking to Frodo at HA, states that Gondor has had a 'springless autumn.' Very glad you liked this 'movie moment,' I don't write them often.

Violin Ghost · 20 August 2007 · Chapter 22: Boromir's Lament - A Drabble (Boromir) movie verse

Hmm. Aragorn's hair in the movie WAS pretty terrible, but I never noticed Boromir's. Faramir could never look less than well-groomed, though -- he's much too meticulous for that! Oh dear, this one was funny too.

Author's reply

Yes - Aragorn's was not good in the movie, and probably not in the book too - but Boromir was an envoy from the Steward and should have taken better care of himself - though he was definitely living in Faramir's shadow! :)

Violin Ghost · 20 August 2007 · Chapter 15: Boromir on Feanor - A Double Drabble (Boromir/Faramir)

I'm certain I read this somewhere before. On Fanfiction.net, maybe. I think I reviewed it, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, just in case I didn't, I just want to say thanks for a funny double drabble. Of course it's all Feanor's fault! ;)

Author's reply

I wrote it awhile ago and put it on the HASA yahoo group site. Gald it made you laugh! And that too is all Feanor's fault :)

Violin Ghost · 20 August 2007 · Chapter 11: The High Warden's New Clothes - A bit more than a drabble (Boromir/Faramir)

This was hilarious! I know exactly what he means -- it CAN be difficult not to laugh at people in their new clothes. How humiliating it must have been for proud Boromir!

Author's reply

Well - humiliating until he had a chance to think about it - it was really a proud moment and poor Faramir was only 15 - so he can be forgiven!

Violin Ghost · 20 August 2007 · Chapter 3: Hide And Seek - A Drabble (Boromir/Faramir)

How very, very sad. Of course Boromir was thinking of his brother at this time! Thank you for a beautiful drabble.

Author's reply

Thanks, Violin Ghose. I don't think either brother ever quite forgot the other... even in the hard times!

Pearl Took · 18 August 2007 · Chapter 27: Fallen - An AU Drabble (Theoden/Theodred)

Wow! This wee bit led to all that? Phenomenal!

Author's reply

*giggles* Oh Pearl - beware of drabbles!!!!

Mairi · 14 August 2007 · Chapter 26: Frodo at the Battle of Bywater - A Drabble (Frodo)

I really like your drabbles. I came back and read the new ones when you had updated, and I don't think I have ever done that before, not even to read the new chapters in one story.

Author's reply

Thank you very much indeed. I will continue to post these for a couple more weeks. I've got a truckload that I've done over the past years and finally found Stories of Arda - where I can place them all in one nice little cupboard for my own enjoyment. Very glad you are enjoying them. May I ask who your favorite character is?

Grey Wonderer · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 26: Frodo at the Battle of Bywater - A Drabble (Frodo)

It is truly the end of the innocence of the Shire. Well done.

Author's reply

Wasn't it though! It left my heart torn in two for Frodo - but also, what were the Hobbits to do???? Very sad. Thank you for your kind words.

Grey Wonderer · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 25: Fey Were His Thoughts - A Tribble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

(Another sundering crash; there is little left to the rock that holds the King of Gondor and the Hope of Middle-earth. ) I love that line!

Author's reply

Thanks, GW. It was certainly a tense moment.

Grey Wonderer · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 24: Sarn Gebir - A Quadrabble (Boromir/The Fellowship)

Wonderful! It really must have been nearly impossible for Boromir to row the boat with only the help of the hobbits. I like the way he struggles too with saying anything to Aragorn until finally he feels he has no choice in the matter. The dark foreshadowing at the end is well done too!

Author's reply

Can't keep forshadowing away from Boromir, can we? DRAT But I am always surprised at Boromir's hesitancy when speaking up - he was a Captain of Gondor and yet, he did wait here as he did at Caradhras... What he would give for a couple of his own warriors rowing with him. They would have been a force ro reckon with!

Pearl Took · 11 August 2007 · Chapter 26: Frodo at the Battle of Bywater - A Drabble (Frodo)

Well written, Agape.

Author's reply

Thank you! Poor Frodo - and the poor Shire.
