Darn, this is beautiful and so sad at the same time! i like how you draw the opressive feeling of an empkty city weighing on them , and the sadness of if the inmpeding parting for Haleth and the weight of sorrow finally fianlly catching up with Inglor. both are together yet so isolated in their respective grief! Wow. While you keep the light tone in their clashing personalities, it is all now bathed in the inmediacy of an ending, or at least it's what we get form Haleth's pov and it's poignant, to follow her into the sudden void that opens at the prospect of being leff alone and behind in the dull grey world. Wonderful!

Author's reply

Thank-you, Perelleth. I wrote a long, complicated reply but the internet ate it. Sharing grief halves the sorrow, but people are often unwilling or even unable to share and this is true of Inglor and Haleth. Inglor thinks, with some justification, that Haleth wouldn't understand the weight of years that rest upon him. Haleth would be absolutely mortified if Inglor knew how she truly felt about him. Haleth likely assumed she would die before Inglor went anywhere. Being mortal while he is immortal, she had some justification for this (although she probably didn't think about it too hard). To suddenly be the person who will be left behind rather than the person leaving is a real kick in the gut. It's unexpected, unwelcome and she'd rather die than tell him how upset she is, let alone why. I once wrote an exam in the very last scheduled time slot. It was very eerie wandering through the residence halls all alone. I was trying to draw on that experience here. Thanks for reviewing. Haleth

I'm so behind in this! I had read up to here, but didn't have the chance to review... I wanted to let you know that I love how the tone's changed in this one. It all seems like twilight, like's getting old to Haleth as she's feeling old herself, so it's kind of been there, done that, bouth the t'shirt kind of stuff... and the strange images and sensations and presences as she climbs the solitary tower are powerful and perfectly fitting with the mood and tone. Since it's been some time since I read this, you can tell this is what remained with me, the sense of evening, her tiredness and midl exasperation and also her knowledge that things change for humans, even if they do not for elves.

Author's reply

Thank-you, Perelleth. Things do change for humans and humans leave the Circles of the World to some unknown fate. But they can leave behind memories. Do the memories reside in the stones of the tower or is Haleth just frightening herself?

Jay of Lasgalen · 9 May 2010 · Chapter 6: Revelation

Has Inglor not noticed Haleth's mood? Or is he waiting for her to tell him what's wrong? I suppose he just assumes they will both sail off in the boat, but simply forgot to mention it to her!

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Jay. Has Inglor not noticed Haleth's mood? Oh, yes. He's noticed it. He's trying to not become a casuality of it. These two make an awful lot of assumptions about each other. If they were graded on communication, they'd both fail miserably. Thanks again Haleth

curiouswombat · 9 May 2010 · Chapter 6: Revelation

Oh dear - I rather hope Haleth has got the wrong end of the stick... I love the last line.

Author's reply

Thank-you, curiouswombat. (May I ask how you chose your name?) It might be difficult to make a ship with only hammers for tools. :) Haleth

Tari · 9 April 2010 · Chapter 5: Mithlond

This is becoming quite an adventure for Haleth. Seeing the empty dock and city would be heartbreaking to me. I would rather have the elves never leave. Too bad they're only fiction. I eagerly await the posting of the next chapter.

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Tari. It is sad that the elves are only fiction. As a society, we could use advice from those who take a really long term view of things. Thanks again.

Elflingimp · 6 April 2010 · Chapter 5: Mithlond

Ha!Ha! I had to laugh at Inglor's answers to Haleth, he so doesn't have a clue as to what's going on in her head. Her remarks about the elves went over the top of his head as well or at least he's smart enough not to take the bait, it's almost like they are living in two different worlds isn't it? I wonder what would happen if the worlds collided? LOL! Bam! Well I'll leave you on that thought, as always this is one of my favorite stories. Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Elfingimp. They really do live in two completely different worlds. Inglor seems to be catching on to this. Or at least he's learned some of the things that antagonize Haleth (even if he doesn't understand why) and he tries to avoid them.

Elflingimp · 23 March 2010 · Chapter 4: Elostirion

Yes, she said? I think I wouldn't be around Inglor for to long without becoming rather physical, I don't think I could take it.After all that he knew? I am left once again wanting to get into this elfs head, but I really don't think even if I did I would understand. Hugs The Imp P.S. But he soo wonderful.

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, ElflingImp. Poor Haleth. She could have said a great deal more. Most of it would have been profane. Maybe Inglor wanted her to say a bit more? We'll never know. He plays it very close to the chest. Thanks again. Haleth

Fiondil · 22 March 2010 · Chapter 4: Elostirion

Ooh! Inglor is being way too mysterious here. *LOL* He is one Elf I could cheerfully drown and I'm sure Haleth feels the same way. So what is our Elf up to, hmmm? Hope we find out soon and I hope you never stop writing about these two. They're too much fun and I look forward to every new chapter and story.

Author's reply

Thank-you, Fiondil. There's way more to this story yet. I hope the characters don't wear out their welcome by the end of it. Inglor is really infuriating. He has reasons for the things he does. He just never bothers to share them with anyone else.

Tari · 22 March 2010 · Chapter 2: Emyn Beriad

This is a fascinating start. Will we ever find out how the two happen to be traveling together? I can't wait to find out how Inglor finally gets into the tower as I am sure he will.

Elflingimp · 8 March 2010 · Chapter 3: An Unconventional Entrance

Well, well, well I would like to see Inglor backside flipping aroung like that! Personally I thought the elf was gonna get stuck leaving Haleth to find a way to get him out, but I was relieved when he was able to get out, I guess I rather relate to Haleth as I am getting older too and I know what she's going thru as far as that, as for the elf I wonder what goes on in his head(as always). Hugs the Imp

Author's reply

It would be something to see, wouldn't it? You could probably sell tickets. Getting older isn't always pleasant, but it's better than the alternative. Inglor's thoughts are a mystery to me, too. It's really hard to get into the head of an immortal being who is way, WAY older than I could ever imagine being. Thanks for reviewing. Haleth

Selene Aduial · 8 March 2010 · Chapter 3: An Unconventional Entrance

It looks like Haleth is going to have very nice dreams that night. *grin* Does Inglor have any idea?? More please.

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Selene. Poor Haleth. Even if she did have nice dreams, she'd only feel that much the worse when she woke up the next morning. Haleth

perelleth · 1 March 2010 · Chapter 2: Emyn Beriad

LOLOL! Storming into towers is beocming a habit or these two! And now Haleth's curiosity is piqued. I love it when she tries -and mananges- to be literal as he is. This exchange had me almost howling! ‘A very large battering ram?’ Haleth suggested.(...) ‘I was hoping for something smaller,’ he said. Tapping her fingers thoughtfully against her lips, Haleth studied the heavily built doors. ‘I don’t think a small battering ram would work,’ she eventually said. They are definitely rubbing on each other, and forgive me the expression! :-) This is delightful.

Author's reply

Haleth seems to have finally realized that if she can't beat Inglor for being completely correct and yet utterly unhelpful, she can at least join him. I get the impression he does not enjoy having the tables turned. Thanks for reviewing. Selene Aduial · 28 February 2010 · Chapter 2: Emyn Beriad

*grin* This is going to be interesting. The king would recognize the palantir, so what is Inglor up to?? I for one can't wait to find out. Hugs Selene

Author's reply

Thank-you for reviewing, Selene. Whatever Inglor is up to, rest assured he won't let on what it is. Haleth

Elflingimp · 27 February 2010 · Chapter 2: Emyn Beriad

They or should I say Inglor is going to steal another palantir? Well this should be interesting ,althou I am not catching on to everything here. What is he up too?, I am beginning to see what Haleth means LOL! Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

What is he up too? I'd like to know, but I don't think he'd tell either of us. He'd just give you a puzzled, somewhat hurt look for suggesting that he might be up to anything at all...Except that would mean he'd have a clue. On second thought, he'd just look bewildered. Thank-you for reviewing.

Selene Aduial · 22 February 2010 · Chapter 1: On the Road

Yay, a new story!! It is so good to see you and Haleth and Inglor back here. I just love their misunderstandings of each other, they make me laugh... it seems that no matter how much traveling together they do, they are still a puzzle to the other. *grin* Just keep it comin ... Hugs Selene

Author's reply

Thank-you, Selene. On some levels they do seem to understand each other, but on others...not so much. Haleth

perelleth · 21 February 2010 · Chapter 1: On the Road

Wow! This heralds hilarious trouble with a touch of melancholy contemplation. Inglor won't react well to Haleth's truths this time, I fear... but hteir intersactions are as full of humorous misunderstanding as always! I really love these two! And this...She couldn’t help but wonder why a High Elf of the royal household had chosen to traipse around Middle-earth with a mortal woman. It was a question that had bothered her for years, and one she refused to ask for fear that he would demand similar information from her. Well, you ar enot the only one wondering, you know? I'm also intrigued. Good to have them back.

Author's reply

Thank-you, perelleth. The entire relationship revolves around noncommunication, miscommunication and incorrect assumptions. Haleth won't talk about her past. Inglor's reticence about his past is a mystery; does he not want to talk about it? Does he assume Haleth aready knows it so he doesn't have to? Or, realizing that Haleth is uncomfortable with the subject, is he being incredibly polite and not pressuring her by raising the subject himself? (Given his apparent level of cluelessness I'm not sure that he gets this far, but you never know.) Haleth

Elflingimp · 21 February 2010 · Chapter 1: On the Road

Well your back and about time too! LOL I need your sence of humour today and as always I giggle all the way thru the chapter, they seem so far apart when they communicate if only they could meet somewhere in the middle, but that would take all the fun out of it would'nt it? Please write on, I so need a new Haleth, Inglor tale. Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

Hello, Elflingimp. I'm glad that the story made you laugh. I'm not sure I could write these two characters without all of their communication misfires. They'd probably just ignore me if I tried. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth

Elena Tiriel · 21 February 2010 · Chapter 1: On the Road

Oh, Inglor and Haleth! Squeeeee! Probably the most enduring examples of UST I have ever read! I do re-read Pitfalls occasionally, when I need a pick-me-up.... so I'm very glad to see you post a new story! - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank-you! I hope this new story is as memorable as the first. Haleth

Anonymous · 21 February 2010 · Chapter 1: On the Road

I have to admit something. I've been a silent lurker of your Haleth+Inglor stories for over three years now. And I have congratulate you on your ability to make me want to go back and re-read your work over and over again. This is a pretty amazing feat considering that most fan-made stories are either poorly written or interesting to the point you read it once and quickly forget about them. You truly have a great writing style and characters that you laugh and sympathize with. (And wish they would get together darn it!) I hope that you continue to write about this pair, and I hope that finally give them the happily ever after we all hope for. *Hint hint nudge nudge* ;) It's great to see you back in the writing "saddle" again!

Author's reply

Thank-you. I was worried that after so much time had passed since the initial story had been posted that no one would much care about the characters anymore. I'm glad that you like the characters. It wouldn't be much of a story if they weren't worth caring about. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth
