Oh, rats! I think Gandalf just made a tactical error, now the wraith knows that they know he is there, he will be very hard to oust now! Poor Aragorn, I do hope that there is a way to remove his visitor before he does more, permanant damage to Aragorn's body or mind!
Huggs,

I hope so, too! Gandalf has a plan, but it's something he's never tried before.

Thank *you*, Lai. Sorry about the cliffies!
Gandalf did what he felt was needed, but now has to be even more careful.

It's heartbreaking to think of Aragorn being treated in that way even though it was something that was totally not his fault :/
But Sam being Aragorn's babysitter, totally adorable :))
Author's reply
It *is* a scary thought, but all will be well in the end... I won't have it any other way! :)

Well, I'm very curious as to where this is going and what Gandalf's plan is! I hope it won't be too long before we find out. And I have to agree with Gandalf about the 'eternal, blessed stubbornness of hobbits' and with Elrond about their ability to bring light into the darkest moments. Thank goodness for it! Thank you!
Author's reply
Thank you, my friend. Our lives would be so much duller without those blessed and stubborn hobbits, and perhaps, deep down, Elrond will someday feel the same way.

Oh, poor Glorfindel! But thank goodness he was watching so closely and caught Frodo's reaction to whatever was happening with Aragorn. I love how you weave what actually happened at the Council into your story, though in a dark and shuddery way.
Author's reply
Thank goodness he was at the Council, and not out guarding the borders. Now events can progress from the dark and shuddery and back to the light... eventually. :)

Poor Glorfindel! He is so worried and feels so responsible. I do worry about Gandalf's idea. It all sounds so dangerous. And while having the RING near Aragorn might distract him, I wonder exactly how dangerous that will be for Frodo. More soon I hope. I am really enjoying this one.
Author's reply
Many thanks! I'm still working out the details, but hopefully I can get the next chapter written during my holiday break. Gandalf's ideas are often perilous, but usually turn out all right in the end. :)

I so hope Gandalf doesn't need to take that "perilous course", and that Aragorn doesn't need to be babysat. LOL

Spending time with hobbits... at least he'd be entertained while being secretly watched over. :)

Oh dear! I really hope that Gandalf will not be forced to "take a perilous course"!
However, there were also many funny moments in this chapter - and all of them had to do with hobbits. Like this one:
“Gandalf,” Frodo said, “if you need a babysitter for Aragorn just send him to Sam.”
“Hmmph,” Sam snorted.
*Grins* They are just great!
Author's reply
Hobbits! They make our hearts happy.

Glad am I that Glordindel is so attuned to things happening. And for the dear Elf to feel distress at his 'failure' to protect Imladris!
Great chapter. Can't wait to read more. And VERY glad that Pippin is not a part of this... else he might spill the beans.
Thanks for sharing this tale with us.

Oh wow, this is getting exciting! And I see that they're not going to tell Aragorn... so I do wonder how he will find out. But of course it makes perfect sense that they cannot tell him, because they certainly don't want the entity to find out they know. And besides, if they did, Aragorn would do all these honorable things and offer to sacrifice himself or something. Yep.
I can't wait for the next chapter---I am wondering what Gandalf is up to. Of course we saw him "throw" Saruman out of Theoden's mind in ROTK, but Saruman is no Nazgul... and this will probably be very different.
Eagerly anticipating what's to come!
Author's reply
You've so patient, Lily! I haven't written it yet, but I think that chapter 6 will finally bring us back to Aragorn, and Things Will Happen. What a joy to know that you're out there reading. *happy hugs*

Ooh! An ominous ending! You are quite good at cliffies, dear!
I'm so relieved though, that the most important people know about Aragorn's problem and have set their minds to dealing with it. And I love Sam's concern for Frodo, and Frodo's amusement at it.
I am looking forward to seeing how you untangle this ominous dilemma!
Author's reply
I have to untangle it?? *grins* Thank you for the vote of confidence.
It's a relief to finally get Gandalf & Co. aware of and focussed on this hidden danger, and to get Frodo and Sam involved. They all certainly know how to keep secrets!

Well, at least they know there's a danger, and hopefully Gandalf will be able to do something about it. Convincing Aragorn that Frodo needs him should help keep in inside the Valley. Loved Glorfindel's "Unless the Dark Lord launches an attack, or Vingilot itself comes to rest on the front lawn, we are not to be disturbed." *snicker*

Another wonderful chapter, dear. It was good to read that Gandalf came up with a plan so quickly to try to draw the evil from Aragorn, but frightening to know it is so dangerous.

It's always a pleasure to show Frodo as an adult, even while needing comfort and care. :)

Oh, what a suspenseful chapter! They'll have their hands full, I fear, trying to keep Aragorn in Imladris, but if anyone can do it, Glorfindel, Elrond and our four intrepid Hobbits can! I like how you've written Glorfindel--I too would have imagined he took it as a personal failure that this has happened and the Enemy has a toehold in Imladris. Helping Gandalf will go a long way toward helping him feel better about things, I would think.
Can't wait for the next installment!
Author's reply
Thank you! Poor Glorfindel probably hasn't had to apologize for many things in his long life, but even an Elf-lord misjudges a situation now and then. And you've been so patient for the "Aragorn" part of the story to begin... which it will in the next chapter! :)

Well at least now, they are aware of what is going on and are taking steps to nutralise it at the least, maybe if Frodo were to suffer a small relapse it would give Aragorn even more reason to stay with him and help?
Coming along nicely.

> a long and peaceful walk in this fair valley, breathing in the crystalline air. He longed for the refreshment of the singing of bright birds and the sweet mists of sparkling waterfalls, and the trees would welcome him home with their slow, measured voices. When night fell, he would bathe in the starlight that shone here as in no other place east of the Sea.
Now that's an exquisite description of Rivendell. Lovely.
Poor Glorfindel, he's in such a bad place now, isn't he?

Rivendell does seem like a very special place. I'm glad you like the way I think an Elf would feel about it.

Now that is truly scary, Shirebound. A dark shape hovering over Aragorn......... Eeeeek!!! I have to read this while peeking through my fingers - not a typical Shirebound story. I hope my favourite Elf can sort it out and get rid of the Ringwraith quickly, before he does any damage to either Aragorn or Frodo.

Oh dear! A shadow looming over Aragorn!
At least Glorfindel is on the right track and soon Gandalf and Elrond will know about the danger, too.
I very much liked the last sentence:
“Elrond, Gandalf…” Glorfindel sighed. “Once every Age… or so… I have been known to make a catastrophic mistake. I regret this may be one of those times.”
Great one!
