I have been following and enjoying. But chapter three forces the story forward in such a deceptively gentle way... Great writing.

Oh my, thank you. What a lovely thing to say.

The arrival at the Last Homely House was lovely and gentle, but Glorfindel's observation that 'something had touched Samwise more deeply than the rest' has me worried for more than just Aragorn. I look forward to more!
Author's reply
Thank you. I'm looking forward to *writing* more!
demeter d · 20 November 2011 · Chapter 3: Rivendell
The story so far has been fascinating! This has been a re-telling of the adventure at the Ford from some viewpoints which our good professor did not explore. I believe Aragorn with all of his potential would have made a great target for the Ringwraith's malice! I believe my favorite part of this chapter is the notion that good old Bill gets to be a Ringbearer for a short time! No doubt one who would be beyond temptation or reproach. Do go on!
Author's reply
I'm so glad you're enjoying this. Bless the Professor for giving us so many ways to explore his Tale. Good old Bill! My first draft of this chapter included Glorfindel addressing him as 'Ring-bearer'.

Ah, safe at last, or nearly so. It seems that Glorfindel is aware that all is not well with the knife hilt, I am not sure that putting it close to the One Ring is a good idea but I expect he knows what he is doing. The arrival at the Last Homely House was beautifully done, very soft and gentle. Huggs, Lynda
Author's reply
Thank you. I do love it when the hobbits finally arrive safely in Rivendell. Glorfindel may not know *exactly* what he's doing, but he's doing his best. :)
lavendertook · 19 November 2011 · Chapter 1: Left Behind
Oh, what a forbidding start! Very chilling!
Author's reply
This was the scary part. *shivers*
Gentle Hobbit · 14 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Ahh... It seems to me that you're not just content with two "compromised" members of the group. It seems as if there is residual effect from the Black Breath (for Merry) and the Barroweight (for Sam). It all feels like a cancer that is going to spread throughout them all...
Author's reply
How dare anything nasssty infiltrate our friends? We'll just see about that!
Gentle Hobbit · 14 November 2011 · Chapter 1: Left Behind
Uh oh. You're upping the stakes now! The enspelled fragment of the blade inside Frodo, and the fragment of the sorcerer linked through the hilt and inside Aragorn. *Bites fingernails*
Author's reply
Eeeeee, what will happen? *ponders*
SurgicalSteel · 14 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
This is a really intriguing beginning, and I look forward to seeing more!
Author's reply
Thank you. What a joy to be writing again.
Layne · 14 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh no :(( It was Aragorn :(( I was hoping that it wasn't him. This is going to be darker than the last one, isn't it? *frets*
Author's reply
I don't think so, but I haven't written it yet! At least Aragorn is among good friends able to help him in ways no sorcerer could have foreseen.
Sila Lumenn · 13 November 2011 · Chapter 1: Left Behind
Ooh, I like this one! Looking forward to future chapters.
Author's reply
Thank you, my friend. It's good to hear from you. Hope all is well!
Andrea · 13 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh my! Aragorn can't remember what the Nazgul did to him. And Sam can't remember the words - which is good! But only WE know that (and the Witch King, of course). So, on the one hand I am glad that Glorfindel senses that there is something wrong, on the other hand I don't want anyone to use the Black Speech. Last but not least, just to be sure, a quote from your reply to Baggins Babe: Never fear! Every tale eventually turns into a "Shirebound story". If that isn't a good thing :-)
Author's reply
Darn that Black Speech... it's so full of mischief. I'm very glad you're coming along on this new adventure. I'm pleased and amazed to still be writing "Shirebound stories" after so many years. :-)
Linda Hoyland · 13 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Poor Aragorn and poor Sam. The Nazgul scare me stiff.I can't wait to see what happens next.
Author's reply
Eeeee, I can't wait either! There are so many directions this could go, but I think I've finally chosen one.
Fiondil · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Eek! Now that's way too short a chapter. LOL! Oh well, it just means more to come. Poor Aragorn. Glad Glorfindel was there though. I think, next to Elrond, he would've been the only one to realize something wasn't right with our Estel. Hope he can help Sam to remember but I have a feeling you're going to be spinning that one out for a while, else there won't be any story. *grin* You do h/c so well, Shirebound; I almost think you invented the genre.
Author's reply
Now *that* is a lovely thing to say, Fiondil. I've been in love with h/c since way before I ever heard of fanfic. (I am sorry about the short chapters, but with my wrist problems, I know it will help me to post more consistently if the pressure is off to work on longer ones.)
Estelcontar · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Scary! I just hope Sam is remembers the words, and Aragorn is strong enough not to fall under the Nazgûl's spell.
Author's reply
So much potential for evil here, but also so much potential for friends to each help out in their own way. :)
rs · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh man! Thank goodness for an Elve's perception. Now hopefully Sam will remember soon. Great beginning. Can't wait for the next update! So glad that you're continuing this plot.
Author's reply
Thank you! Glorfindel couldn't keep this from happening, but at least he realizes there's something amiss.
lbilover · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Finally got a chance to read the first two chapters and oh, what a scary idea that the Nazgul is now inside Aragorn. *shivers* You described the Black Rider's POV so very well. *more shivers* But thank goodness Glorfindel has some idea that something isn't right. I can't wait to find out how they will manage to get the information they need from Sam.
Author's reply
The Professor wrote some scary characters! It's eerie to try to see events through their eyes. Thank you so much for reading. Dear Sam definitely holds one of the keys to getting this all sorted out.
Iorhael · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh, this is lovely. I love how you write Glorfindel. I wish they had him in the movies. :(
Author's reply
Thank you. It took me many years to get more comfortable writing Elves. I'm so happy you like this portrayal of Glorfindel.
Baggins Babe · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Eeeeps!!! This is very creepy, Shirebound! Of course I know it's a Shirebound story so things will be resolved in the end but what a frightening idea - those Ringwraiths get everywhere! Can't wait to see where this goes - and of course, my favourite Elf if wary and suspicious. No wonder he's managed to survive all manner of things in his very long lives. :-)
Author's reply
LOL, never fear! Every tale eventually turns into a "Shirebound story". *grins* Thank you so much for reading, BB. I don't believe I've tried to write Glorfindel before, except in a teensy ficlet somewhere. The Professor told us how unusual he is, and it's interesting to try to figure out how he might have been aware of this strange event.
Lily Baggins · 12 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh man... *rubs hands together* This is getting good! I have a real weakness for Glorfindel in stories, and especially when worried about Aragorn---I think he's a character way too under-used. So it's very exciting to see him here! I LOVE the fact that Aragorn just does not remember a thing and shook it all off as nothing... a momentary weakness. And yet wise Glorfindel is just not so sure... yep, I'm wondering mightily what's going to happen next. It's going to be interesting, I'll warrant. I'm so looking forward to more of this!
Author's reply
Thanks, Lily! Glorfindel is rather a new character for me. He tried his best to get Aragorn and the hobbits safely to Rivendell, but so much was out of his control. I'm having a wonderful time with this and am soooo happy you're enjoying it. There will be a *lot* of people worried about Aragorn. *twirls*
Periantari · 11 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
omg so cool that Samwise remembered something of importance! Very interesting that Aragorn may be affected. I'm excited to see where this goes! Awesome start! Can't wait for more! :D
Author's reply
Thank you very much! The Professor let us know about Sam's excellent memory for verse (or spell, in this case)... it's just a case here of retrieving it.
Periantari · 11 November 2011 · Chapter 1: Left Behind
What an interesting idea! I love the morgul blade and stories on how it affected the Ring-bearer and it is interesting getting this in the Witch-king's point of view. I't so spooky! i look forward to reading more. Keep going with writing this, Janet! I enjoy this muchly! looking forward to the h/c :D
Author's reply
Thank you, sweet friend! I enjoy 'spooky' as long as there's lots of healing and comfort and hobbity-ness on the other side of it. What a joy to be writing a new tale.
Grey Wonderer · 11 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
That was so exciting. I think in trying to recall the words, Sam nearly fell under their spell. I hope Glorfindel is very careful if he tries to use Sam to find out what was said. This is very good. Can't wait for more of it.
Author's reply
Thank you. Yes, they're going to have to use delicate means to coax that spell out of Sam without harming him.
Ellynn · 11 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh, really scary atmosphere! This chapter gives the readers uneasy feeling...
Author's reply
It's interesting to imagine things happening slightly differently during the Ford encounter. Thank you for reading.
Dreamflower · 11 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
Oh my! Poor Sam-- just trying to remember the Black Speech makes him sick. And poor Aragorn, who has no idea what just happened to him. Thank goodness Glorfindel seems to be alert to possible danger.
Author's reply
And poor Glorfindel, who couldn't be everywhere at once! Dear Sam with his excellent memory... he'll have to be handled gently if those dark words are to be coaxed out.
Antane · 11 November 2011 · Chapter 2: Dazed
How nice to see another chapter - the suspense mounts. That's going to be dangerous if Sam remembers those words...and as someone else pointed out, Gandalf's words at the Council though if Sam does say such things or Frodo mumbles something and disaster strikes, Gandalf doesn't have to say anything...dear me...dear me... I do love having you back, my dear! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I love *being* back, my friend. Thank you. Now there's so much potential for that Black Speech to be heard in Rivendell! We'll have to wait and see what happens. :)
