This is an amazing tale you've woven. Yes, you've done it - you've beaten out all of my favorite works of fanfiction and taken the official position as Mirari's Favorite Fic. I'm adoring this story. Everything... everything is so beautifully in-canon, and your writing honestly flows like poetry. The characters are so incredibly true to themselves; it's such a joy to read. I'm gobbling up each chapter in ecstasy. This is the essence of Tolkien. Gorgeous. Thank you for providing me with an added bit of joy in my day - every time you update. ^^

Aww Leggy made a friend!! Go you! *squeals with pleasure and leans forward in seat rubbing hands together* This is getting good...ON WITH THE NEXT CHAPTER! Let's see the Green Knight kick some butt!

fliewatuet · 19 January 2004 · Chapter 21: Aldamir of Amon Din

Poor Híldaf! But at least someone tried to come to Bandy's rescue (or pretended to have done so). With everything that is amiss, I find it hard to trust anyone (safe the accomplished heroes of the War of the Ring, of course). But then, Híldaf's injuries seem real enough. And then there are those strangers who have pitched up their tents in the southern reaches of the Entwash, if Aldamir's reports are to be trusted. But he seems to be an honourable man, unlike Egalmoth, whom I like less and less. I wonder how well he will fare in keeping Éowyn from following her husband.

Hmm, I see you have completed that correspondence course from Melkor and Morgoth University? The one entitled "Fell Cliffhangers and the Effect upon the Reader"? Bandy is still in the soup! Albeit, Elf-Boy is off in pursuit on that sweetie pie of a destrier but still Bandy might be a mushroom souffle before he gets to him. I am off to borrow that fiery Balrog whip from Glorfindel. See that you get busy on an update. Humble Scribe to his Majesty Thranduil

calenore · 19 January 2004 · Chapter 21: Aldamir of Amon Din

Yay! They are going to rescue Bandy. That makes me feel much better.

Lamiel · 19 January 2004 · Chapter 21: Aldamir of Amon Din

Oh, Egalmoth is looking mighty suspicious. And of course they took Bandobras precisely so that Legolas would come after him alone and fall into their trap. But I maintain that he may yet prove more than they can handle. His reaction was perfect, though he did maintain presence of mind enough to keep his armour on. Or was it just that he didn't have the time to pull of his helmet? Seems like he'd want to be able to see clearly, if he's going to be tracking the abductors. Thank you for the fairly swift update -- I've been on tenterhooks waiting to see what happens next. And now of course the clamor will go up for more, quickly! But I'll be patient. It takes time to craft such a beautifully woven and intricate chapter, and I appreciate the effort you make with each one. Marvelously done. Thank you so much.

Ai Elbereth, I knew it would be ugly when Legolas found out. Shades of Thranduil. What he wouldn't give now to be armed like an elven knight rather than a green showpiece! Anyhow, it seems they have more loose ends turning up than they can tie off. Everyone there for a tournament has to be royally peeved by now, rather like trying to watch a movie when the phone keeps ringing, only more so. ;) I'm still worried about Bandy, but glad to see something is being done about it already. Good old Hildaf.

Saber · 13 January 2004 · Chapter 20: Sweetmeats and Mushrooms

*throws up hands* Saw that one coming a mile away...great...just great. No really...this a peachy situation. Let's break out a bottle of wine to celebrate. *hangs self with sarcasim* Jeeze...Bandy talks as much a steriotypical mother-in-law

Orophins Dottir · 12 January 2004 · Chapter 20: Sweetmeats and Mushrooms

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh! You bonked our Bandy over his poor hobbit head! THIS is not a welcome thing to your fans. I also think this will tork off our elven Stalking Goat big time. I should not like to be the one who hurt Bandy when Legolas and Gimli get hold of that miscreant. No, I need to know what happens quickly. Update, fell author, Update! calenore · 12 January 2004 · Chapter 20: Sweetmeats and Mushrooms

Oh poor Bandobras! *Sigh* he should have LISTENED. Ah, well, Legolas will find him!

Lamiel · 12 January 2004 · Chapter 20: Sweetmeats and Mushrooms

Oh no! Poor Bandobras! I had a bad feeling about this from the beginning, when Legolas first warned him to be careful, but I was having such a good time following him on his daily errands that I dared hope everything would be okay. Oh, what a terrible cliff hanger! Legolas is going to be furious. I think they're going to find out that their goat is a mountain lion after this. I can just see him throwing aside the tournament, the blasted armour and disguise and all the rest of it, and hunting down these horrible people who have hobbit-napped his esquire. They've never seen an enraged Elf-lord, and I don't envy them the experience. All of this means, of course, that I'm really involved with the story and the characters as you portray them. You've done a wonderful job crafting a truly believable and engaging world. I am so, so looking forward to the next chapter. I hope that real life is very kind to you, and that you can update soon! fliewatuet · 12 January 2004 · Chapter 20: Sweetmeats and Mushrooms

Arghh, forgot to leave a review for the last chapter. Darn! The evil thing about this chapter was that I knew almost from the start that Bandy would get into trouble (but I managed to refrain myself from scrolling to the bottom ... well, at least for 2/3 of the story). At least he did not reveal anything that should remain unknown, though I always cringed when he started chatting, fearing for the worst. But, of course, a grocer's cart and the promise of mushrooms make the perfect trap to catch a Hobbit (after he has had too much wine - I wonder whether that was part of the plan, though I doubt it). I only hope that that patrol had their eyes open. Apart from Bandy's misfortune, I must say that King Elessar's advisors are a strange bunch. I wouldn't really trust any of them, but he's the King, so he should know ... fliewatuet

Coriel · 12 January 2004 · Chapter 20: Sweetmeats and Mushrooms

Oh no! Poor Bandy! Now it's Legolas' turn to panic. I shudder to think how this sinister turn of events will complicate things. Why do I get the feeling that elaborate dinner planned will never happen? Anyway, yet another engaging chapter. And though brief, that glimpse of Thranduil was wonderful; I can just imagine him smiling at Bandy's back, presiding over a ceremony that must have seemed amusing and endearing to him. :)

Saber · 8 January 2004 · Chapter 19: The Gray Knight is Surprised

And Oropher turns over in his grave... Funny, I wouldn't have thought an elven blade would have been notched that easily, if at all. I mean sure that was a heck of a blow...but STIL...elven forged swords are wicked strong. *eyes Egalmoth* Well aren't you just the grumpy one today...

Orophins Dottir · 8 January 2004 · Chapter 17: The Goat Escapes

"'A goat!' exclaimed Bandobras indignantly, giving a mushroom a vicious stab with his fork. "The nerve! And I thought he was a gentleman.'" Legolas Thranduilion, stalking goat! What a great image. I love Bandy's indignation. ". . .– just so the knights won't think you're trying to nick the best girls along with the grand prize." The idea of Legolas "trying to nick the best girls" had me rolling on the floor. Also, loved the interaction with the trees, especially his sorrow at being unable to help the hollies as the thugs crash through them. And, the naked wood-elf for a holiday gift! Your loyal fans would love to be on your gift list forever! Humble Scribe to his Majesty Thranduil

Coriel · 5 January 2004 · Chapter 19: The Gray Knight is Surprised

I knew Brandobras would go balistic when he found out. So much for trying to keep his clothes clean! The little guy never fails to be amusing. And another round of applause for Legolas! He has enough of his father in him to chafe when thwarted. He had to take it out on somebody, and Vorondil just happened to be handy. ;) Just a little concerned that Arwen and Eowyn seem a bit free with their comments. You never know what may slip out to inopportune listeners . . . Kudos for updating regularly, BTW. A friend of mine who was staying with us this week lit up this morning when she remembered it was "Green Knight day". After being sick all yesterday, an entertaining chapter like that was just what we needed. :)

Tinnuial · 5 January 2004 · Chapter 19: The Gray Knight is Surprised

Oooo...thanks for posting early.... ;) Egalmoth looks guiltier by the minute...must go back and read previous chapters to pick up more clues... I introduced this story to my sister and a friend....I daresay they are both hooked and are clamouring for more!!! (as am I ;) :) Happy New Year!!

Kage · 4 January 2004 · Chapter 19: The Gray Knight is Surprised

I been waiting for this~! The combat scene was sharp and the action easy to follow. The only thing I'm puzzled about is why does it say 'Éowyn thought Vorondil’s sword would block the sweep of Orophin’s blade'; isn't Orophin the brother of Haldir? Legolas's grandfather is Oropher, right? That little trick that Eowyn pulled on Bandobras was kind of cute. Hope to see the next chapter soon.

Author's reply

Kage, Ooops! That's what I get for posting un-beta-ed chapters -- It ought to have been Oropher, and I corrected it. Thank you for catching it before I looked like a TOTAL fool. I wish my beta would hurry up. Le Rouret

Lamiel · 4 January 2004 · Chapter 19: The Gray Knight is Surprised

Ah, well, if you can't get out and fight the real battles, may as well trounce the opposition at home. I am glad to see Legolas shine at swordfighting too. It was realistic that he can't be perfect at everything, but he is light and fast and strong, and given the right motivation he can even handle all that armour and heavy sword. You did a very nice job showing the motivation behind this transformation. I did like Bandobras in this chapter particularly. That reaction over the button -- wonderful! Very funny, and still respectful to the Hobbits. Looks like the conspiracy is coming close to home - at least one of those lords in the top box has suspicious motives. Things are heating up now, and I'm looking forward to the conclusion. May the muses be kind to you.

fliewatuet · 2 January 2004 · Chapter 18: A Warning Heeded

Uh, I still owe you a review or two, I fear. Hmm, the mental image of a naked wood elf running through a rain-soaked forest at night was a nice christmas present, indeed. Though I am more of a squeeling Aragorn fangirl than a pervy elf fancier, yet I´ll enjoy what I'll get ;-) I quite like the turn your story is taking. While it started as a light-hearted, colourful tale about knights and ladies and gossip at court (and, of course, the mystery of the true identity of the Green Knight), it now takes a turn to the darker side. There is real danger afoot, both for Gondor and her King. The threat that they are facing is no longer some petty intrigue, but the stability of Gondor itself is at stake. I am curious as to where this is heading. Happy New Year, fliewatuet

leann · 2 January 2004 · Chapter 18: A Warning Heeded

oh how i love this story! continue....soon...please!

Coriel · 30 December 2003 · Chapter 18: A Warning Heeded

I can see now that this whole rigamarole is beginning to grate on Legolas; he has an attitude! How exasperating to stay there and play those crazy games while others are out doing some real fighting. Also, I've noticed that Legolas has a knack for turning up in bedrooms without compromising his integrity. Treading a fine line are we, from an author's PoV? ;) Now we've dealt with Aragorn, but I can just imagine what sparks will fly when Gimli finds out what he's been up to.

Saber · 29 December 2003 · Chapter 18: A Warning Heeded

HA! Told you! The elf never listens. He has quite the hard head does he not? I pity Aragorn for having to deal with him all these years. Ack...the heck with Aragorn...pity the lunkhead's father! It's a wonder Thranduil isn't the first elf with gray hairs. Ah treason...how sweet the sound to a readers ears. *rubs hands together* Bring it on...

Lamiel · 29 December 2003 · Chapter 18: A Warning Heeded

"Like a bright echo of moonlight he passed noiselessly over soft rain-soaked grass and slick shingle alike." Sigh. Have I told you lately how much I love your descriptions? Even with clothes on he's perfect. Interesting mix of courtly language and good old fashioned bickering in this chapter. Loved Legolas' reaction to Aragorn's orders. And I note that he never really said that he'd just stay in the tournament and leave the real fighting to the army. This goat has teeth. Aragorn would do well to remember it. Lamiel P.S. Wonderful, wonderful touch about Legolas detecting Arwen by scent, and her waking to his presence. Nice statement about the other, often overlooked Elvish senses.

Saber · 23 December 2003 · Chapter 17: The Goat Escapes

Oh my...oh the mental images...oh bad saber! BAD!! *blushes furiously* Yeah... ANYWAY...Legolas is going to be in it REALLY deep when he returns...there's no concealing the fact that he broke his promise to Aragorn now. *dances around singing "he's gonna get in trouble...he's gonna get in trouble!" in really annoying voice*
