You almost had me weeping. What a beautiful tribute to Aragorn.

Author Reply: Forgive the tardiness of responses. Have been fighting a frightfully sore shoulder, and for the last two months haven't had a lot of tolerance for much writing beyond what was necessary.

I found the Master's description of the death of Aragorn to be so moving, and wanted to explore it a bit further. Thank you so!

Ah, Larner, this is so sad! I read it the other day at school and cried (do you know how embarassing that can be?). I reread it tonight and cried again! It is such an intimate look into the last hours of Aragorn's life. He has a choice and that gives him time to make all the little preparations that might have been made by others otherwise. Even sadder! His clothes, the crown, the scepter, the sword...hard enough to deal with those little details as I read (I did the same for my Adar last year - almost to the day). But the goodbyes to his family and friends - he was prepared to go, but how hard for them! And Arwen...I can't even begin to imagine. This was a wonderfully written piece - so poignant! It's hard to put into words how touching this was...so I'll just say It was!

Oh this is a beautiful written story as are all you fics! I have been meaning to leave you a review for your other stories but I have been pressed for time the past 2 days!

Anyway, I cried throughout reading this chapter and the next...lovely story!

If you don't mind I think I found a typo or two such as in this line: "the dreams of his father and his Adar together, looking at him from afar..." -- Did you mean to say 'his mother and his Adar' because as you're aware, Adar is the Elvish word for father...

Also when the bell started to ring I believe you said it rung 192 times, one time for each year Aragorn lived and I believe that he was 210 when he finally accepted the Gift of Iluvatar, and left the Circles of the World...

Oh, I do hope you'll write a chapter where Aragorn is reunited with the people he loved who went on before him, such as his parents, and friends, and I especially want to see his reunion with Frodo...

Again, absolutely lovely and I look forward to the next chapter of this story!

Author Reply: I'm going to change the age to reflect Tolkien's later changes from the first edition. I really had never checked out his age in my later editions. Very strange I'd never check to see any changes in the book of years.

Poor Aragorn - what a decision to make, and yet you make it seem the only possibility. So hard for everyone.

Beautifully written and haunting as usual. Such a sad, sad, story but, as he said "It is the nature of things" still no less bittersweet. I wondered at the age, thinking for some strange reason he had lived into the 400rds, but am sure you are correct since I do not have my books at hand. You write so wonderfully, and is an honor to all of us that you share your gift. tree

I'm really pleased to see a story that shows understanding of the gift of Iluvatar to the Numenorians. You've given us Aragorn's view of this and made us understand too.

Author Reply: I'm glad you find it within your own understanding of the Gift of Iluvatar and how it was experienced by the children of Elros.

Excellently written and very moving account of the death of Aragorn. I look forward to future chapters.

One quibble - Tolkien stated in the Appendices that Faramir (of Ithilien, not Took) had a grandson named Barahir who wrote the Tale of Aragorn & Arwen - wouldn't he have been the Steward rather than this "Ecthelion"?

Author Reply: Okay, I noted Aragorn's age at his death, but had forgotten the identity of the one who wrote this tale. I will edit it immediately. Thanks for the correction.

And that so many have been moved by this has been encouraging, to say the least.

Well written details, and emotional depth in giving an answer to a very difficult question. Not overwrought; but solemn. I especially liked the inclusion of Glorfindel, Elladan, and Elrohir; the hint of the shock that his passing would cause (using the difference between the hobbits and men was very good); and the bell.

This was a very difficult read--not that it was badly written, on the contrary!

It's just that it caught me in the pit of the gut, even knowing the topic.

Some nice touches: I like a Frodo as Thain, too. And honouring Beregond, and Bergil as you did, two of my favourite Men, you know.

Can't comment on any more for it is difficult to draw breath, for some reason. Very much like having been punched in the gut.

Author Reply: Oh, I am so glad you like it, Lindelea. You have become one of my own favorite authors in FanFiction, as I think you know, and to have it hit home so strongly with you means a great deal to me.
