Try though he might Merry had trouble getting Pippin onto that pony. Now, I wonder if Pippin fears what Arwen will see if she looks into his eyes. I hope Denethor recovers. Always nice to come home from work and find more of this story up to read. Diamond has such a way of handling Pippin without making a big fuss of things. She and Merry know just what to do to keep him in his place. I will be looking for more of this one. Author Reply: Yes, Pippin fears what Arwen will see if she looks into his eyes. That's right. Hopefully to be revealed in the next chapter to be posted. (The next chapter after this one already split itself into two so it is not revealed in the next chapter after this one. Aargh, drank too much coffee today and cannot figure out how to say things clearly!) But there is another chapter posted, and more tomorrow or Monday I hope.

Hmmmmmm.... I am not quite sure why Pippin is avoiding Arwen's gaze here.... LOL - you know perhaps Aragorn should pull rank on Pippin, who is after all a knight of Gondor who has given an oath of fealty to the King. I know Aragorn probably wouldn't really want to result to that but honestly as bad as Pippin is about not wanting to listen to the healers, he may have to! Author Reply: All should come clear in the next chapter. Goodness! Looking at the draft there's no more than five and possibly as few as two chapters left to this story!!! Just depends on how they split off the original narrative, which is not broken up into chapters. (I cannot believe it is almost done.)

You must have got your Challenge story done.:) Why won't Pippin look at Arwen? Is he feellng guilty because he wasn't able to do more for her daughter than he did, which was get himself into deadly straight, and yet he saved his own son and Pip-Lad? Enquiring minds want to know. Of course the reason may be obvious, and the Queen of Obtuse is just missing it.:) Thanks again. Connie B. Author Reply: You're not the only one in the dark. It seems I've been more subtle than usual (or perhaps simply obscure, or unclear, or whatever. Hopefully when it comes out the Reader will nod wisely and say, Of course! That makes sense!). No one has guessed it yet, or at least if they have I haven't heard about it. Thanks!

H'mm, hobbits in the report . . . . I don't think it would come off, somehow! New chapters to read are a delight rather than a chore. I must go back and read some earlier ones now! (I reread At the End of his Rope the other day. Monday probably, since it was a Bank Holiday. Good way to spend a gloomy day.) Wrassle those other family members away from the computer! Have they no consideration for your fans? Author Reply: No consideration whatsoever. Have been trying to read Marigold's Challenge 12 and been interrupted more times than I can tell. Usually I manage to review 10 or 12 of the stories when they first come out, and a few more here and there over the next few days, but I've only managed to read three and don't know when I'll get to read more. Ah, well. That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Thanks!

I hope I haven't forgotten anything - I can't work out why Pippin is not prepared to meet Arwen's eyes. Of course, that is the problem caused by reading when in the middle of writing a truly boring report. Brain is not functioning at its best. That 'resting comfortably'. I don't know - it's meaningless, although the syllables go together quite nicely. Clever Merry - and I'm glad to see everyone brightening up at the evidence of his improvement. At least one person is doing well! Aragorn must walk around in a constant cloud of athelas scent when there are hobbits anywhere near. Update quickly - I want to find out more about the Pippin / Arwen situation! Author Reply: It might have something to do with what made Hilly wonder, a chapter or two back, when Pippin was reporting to the King and left a couple of important facts out. Pippin was rather unhobbity, a few chapters ago... and now that he has time to reflect it's starting to catch up with him. Is that too cryptic, or does it give you a clue? Aragorn might as well just hire someone to follow him about wheeling a barrow with a brazier topped with steaming water, and someone following *him* with more coals to keep the fire burning and a can of water to top off the kettle whenever it gets low. At least, they ought to be temporary workers, on call whenever hobbits visit. Will update again tomorrow if I can wrestle everyone else away from the computer for enough time to type in the next chapter. Thanks for the encouragement! Author Reply: p.s. at least it's the report that is truly boring and not the chapter. Author Reply: p.p.s. perhaps inserting a few hobbits into the report would liven it up? Don't mind me, I'm avoiding my responsibilities. But they've come and found me anyway, and so I must go and be a real person again. Have a good week end!
