Moments in Time  by Larner 20 Review(s)

Fantastic! The idea that there's something Aragorn *can't* do is quite endearing. And, there's no need to hammer a bench together w the same force you'd use to sledge a stone wall down, your Majesty... :-P

Author Reply: Oh, I so agree! I loved writing this one! Thanks so!

I swore I left a review for this a long time ago - but seeing as I couldn't find one - and beginning to read this series over again for such missed stories...

This was extremely deightful - I loved the wager, and the appearance of Pippin, and Frodo's attempts... and the surprise revelation from Aragonr... and the whole thing was delightful - even without the ending - which proved absolutely hysterical.

Great tale - great moments of laughter and joy. Most appreciated!

Author Reply: I enjoyed writing this one. I'd read Baylor's stories in which it's revealed the Dwarves who taught the twins Dwarvish curse words had actually taught them phrases such as "I want to kneel naked to serve as a footstool for a Dwarvish matron" and such like, and she played with different characters who'd understand what they'd really said. And Grey Wonderer had done her story about Pippin's carpentry lessons, and there was a challenge on HASA, I think, about a betting pool n how long it might take Aragornt to break and flee the Citadel...and this is what came out! I had to write this one. Glad it gave you good laugh!

Oh, those mischievous dwarves!!!

That's really quite wicked, but worth it to hear Frodo laugh.

So Aragorn really doesn't know what he was saying? Too funny!!! I wonder what the other things were, since apparently he did go on for awhile!

Thanks for the laugh - especially after making me cry the way you did (in Stricken from the Book).

Author Reply: To fully appreciate this story, you need to read Bodkin's stories that sparked it in her Reflections series and in her story about all who heard Elladan and Elrohir going on for years and had quiet snickers at their expense behind their backs.

And I suspect that Aragorn learned a few what all had thought to be choice Dwarvish phrases, only to have it all come out now; and Frodo deserved a wonderful memory he could hug to himself about the other things he'd heard his friend say.

And am so very glad this one was a good contrast to the last one. Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh Larner! How abslolutely splendid! I laughed so hard on this! To think that the noble King of Gondor would say such things without knowing! This was very well written and I was in need of a good laugh, being in the midst of Antane's serious angst...hannon le! GOd Bless, Frodo Baggins

Author Reply: I do blame this on Bodkin and the Grey Wonderer, you know. They did such good jobs on their stories, this one was just begging to be written tying them together. So glad it gave you such enjoyment.

*guffaws helplessly* Oh, Larner, I...I'm laughing so hysterically that...that I can hardly type! *wipes eyes* Oh, that's just so hilarious! I have never in my life...such a phraze! LOL! Poor Aragorn! Ha ha! But it was good to see Frodo laughing. Oh, how I needed that! Now if I could just stop laughing...so I can read another story...*giggles* It's hopeless! God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Now, read Bodkin's stories to see how this started. Once I'd seen them, I had to write this one. So glad you enjoyed it!

This was great :) Good to see your Frodo laughing :) I need to learn Dwarvish ;)

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed it. If you desire to learn dwarvish, however, I suggest approaching Lord Elrond or Gimli rather than any younger dwarves. They won't teach you things that mean completely different than you'd thought.

And Frodo deserves to laugh, richly and warmly. So glad you appreciated that.

I don't know why I didn't review this story the first time I read it - probably because I was laughing so much! The image of Aragorn sneaking away from the Citadel was funny enough, because we just know there would be moments when he would do that, but the mental picture of him hitting his thumb and swearing in the language of the Dwarves was more than I could cope with!
Those naughty young Dwarves, to teach the Twins and Aragorn such things! No wonder Frodo was laughing. Glad you brought in Bodkin's stories, and Pippin's carpentry lessons!

Author Reply: When I first started reading "Discretion" my mind went into hyperdrive just trying to figure out what kind of phrases the dwarves would have taught Elrond's sons, and I found myself with all kinds of things going in my mind. As she began to translate some of them I began trying to figure out similar phrases and think of how Frodo might have been aware of what was being said, particularly if Aragorn said something particularly hilarious. And this was what came out--Bodkin's Dwarvish phrases, Grey Wonderer's carpentry lessons, and a betting pool all sliding into a single story.

So glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, my! ROTFL! *wipes eyes* What a thoroughly wonderful tribute! I truly enjoyed that!

‘I would delight for you to apply the toe of your boot to my backside, sweet maiden’.

*snicker* That's just wicked, that is! *giggle*

Author Reply: The Dwarve's version of the old favorite, the "Kick Me" sign! Yes, Bodkin certainly started things, and had to work in the Grey Wonderer's carpentry lessons and a betting pool at the same time.

So glad to hear from you--it's been too long!

I love this story of the runnaway king, if only for a few hours. It was sweet of Frodo to want to build Sam a bench. What a joke for the dwarves to pull on the twins, who passed it on to Estel. Good thing Aragorn does not know what he is saying.

Author Reply: I hope you've been following Bodkin's lovely series of stories regarding this, both in Reflections and in Discretion. She started it all, after all, putting all kinds of weird thoughts into my head that they might have been saying!

And now and then I think Aragorn would indeed want to get away from it all--go play civilian for a time; and the idea of the betting pool on when he'd do so had to get itself expressed.

I enjoyed! What a cute joke on Aragorn...so clever!

Author Reply: Ah, am so glad you enjoyed it. The idea of the betting pool, Bodkin's Dwarvish phrases, and Grey Wonderer's carpentry lessons were just begging to be combined, I thought.
