The Rest of the Story is a perfect title for this story. Our more lax customs of reading in the bath would be seriously more risky in Middle Earth during Frodo's time as books were hand copied and I imagine the materials were proportionally more costly, too. What I love about this tale is the way Bilbo deals with Frodo's disobedience as naturally, as calmly as a cloud drifting by. No yelling, grudge holding, guilt-making, harsh punishment. Bilbo is kind and specific “you will remember not to bathe with my books, won’t you?” “Then you could tell me how it ends..." "I doubt that my telling it to you would help you to remember not to bathe with books." Wonderful parenting. Bilbo's a natural! Another copy of that book by JoJo Overbank would indeed be a Lost Treasure because it's plausible to think only one of them was produced in the first place given the lack of literacy among most working class hobbits. This lesson will serve our book loving Frodo well. He won't risk dunking books as we don't drop ebooks in water--though it won't be long before that precaution won't be necessary. We are so fortunate that you took the initiative to write these stories when your muse was still whispering Hobbity nothings in your ear.

Now, this one I don't remember! Ah, but it was satisfying! I often take books to the bath with me--a wonderful way to soak and enjoy myself! Poor Frodo--now he has to find another copy just to finish the story! I don't blame Bilbo, but neither do I blame Frodo aa single bit. Author Reply: This one was part of one of Marigold's Challenges. Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind. Frodo got the water part. Since each was a small little story unto itself, I split this part off and put it here. I've read in the bath many times so this one is from experience in a way. LOL

OMG! Very well done...very tense. I don't think Frodo will be reading in the bath again. Thank you! Author Reply: Thank you for reading and reviewing. Glad you enjoyed it!

Books in the bath. So irresistible - and such a bad idea! I wonder how long it took Frodo to get another copy of the book. I'm sure the need to know the ending haunted him until he did. Perhaps Bilbo gave him a copy for his next birthday. And every time he saw it on his shelf, it reminded him not to take in that next book he was longing to finish. Author Reply: You know, that's an excellent idea about the birthday gift. That would work too and be just long enogh to wait for the answer so that it would still be a good idea. Oh, I read in the bath too! But fortunately that's never happened to me. My partner would have a conniption. She's very anal about her books. I hate not getting to hear the end of stories! Poor Frodo. Author Reply: Seems lots of people do read in the bath. I do suspect that the books of Middle Earth would be much harder to replace if dunked in the water than our books might be. LOL Thanks for reading!

Oh OH! Let that be a warning to all us closet bath readers! Been there, done that, got the T shirt, as they say, and modern books soak up nearly as much water as ME books! Just as well I can't take my lap top into the bath with me! Now I've got to go a hunting for the other three bits GW! Author Reply: Thanks for reading that here is the link to the other three bits. So far they aren't posted to Stories of Arda but if you want to have a look they are on Marigold's Challenge 27 site under the title "Bath Time" Frodo's story, which you have read here, is first followed by Sam, Merry and Pippin. Here's the link. Hope this works. http://talechallenge27.livejournal.com/4433.html#cutid1
