Tâd Edhel a Firion   by Fiondil 8 Review(s)

What a delightful start. I can’t wait to see where this adventure leads them. I’m sure it will not be all roses. Something is bound to happen to them. The good part is that Aragorn is soon to meet his “brother”

Author Reply: Glad you like the way it starts. There will be loads of adventure as they make their way to Mirkwood and afterwards. And no, it will not be all roses, especially for Aragorn. *grin*

*lol* Love Elrond’s and Glorfindel’s banter at the beginning. Though I am with Glorfindel here – I prefer my rides in dry weather.
Estel and the twins together were fun as well. What a pity that Elladan and Elrohir don’t accompany them! I’m sure it would be a lot of fun to have them around. (And I happen to love them quite a bit)

Loved the flashback to five-year-old Estel asking for a brother to play with. It is understandable that he thinks brothers are only there to play with him, not to go on patrol duty or other useless tasks. The poor little guy must have been very lonely sometimes, without any playmates even remotely his age. And obviously he still has the same problem now, when even the younger Rangers look at him as their Chieftain, not as their friend. No wonder he’s hoping to befriend Legolas.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. So you've decided to re-read this story too. That's great. I had debated about having the twins come along but in the end decided that would've made it too cumbersome trying to keep track of all those elves. Poor Estel would've been lost in the crowd. *grin* And I did give them their own adventure later on.

Anyway, I'm sure Estel's childhood was lonely at times not having children his own age to play with, but I don't think it was all that terrible either. Still, we all want to have 'friends' who can let us be ourselves and not this role or that role and that's what Estel is looking for (and eventually finds) in Legolas.

There is always room for friends in one's life. It's only to be expected Aragorn would wish for such things.

Author Reply: And Aragorn hasn't had the opportunity to make friends who are his peers, so he feels a bit left out of things others take for granted.

Wow! I just read through this entire story. I read the prologue months ago but then it got set aside and well...I just finished reading it. What a fantastic story! This first chapter was wonderful. I loved the humorous moments as well as the serious and I really felt for Gilraen in the flashback -- not only for the humor of the situation but also for her anger at Arathorn. That was really beautifully done. I loved the bantering between Elrond and Glorfindel and Estel's youthful exhuberance. And all that poignancy with Estel wanting a friend -- well as I read through the story I liked the way you brought that all together. (But it sure made for some wonderfully humorous moments too; ah, the innocence of a child). Anyways, I will be reviewing other chapters individually too. I REALLY, REALLY hope you intend to write more Aragorn stories. This is one of the best ones I've had the pleasure of reading! I have a 'forum' over at FF.Net (which isn't really much of a forum; I just started it last week as a means for me to recommend stories) and I put your story down as one of my first off-site recommendations. I was riveted to the story throughout and I took advantage of a rare slow day to just sit down and read the entire thing. Very well done. Hope all this praise doesn't get old.

Author Reply: Thanks viggomaniac. I was so surprised to see that I had a review of this story after so long and very pleased that you liked it so much. I'm honored that you found the story so riveting that you read it all at one go and that you're recommending it to other Aragorn fans on your own site. I do indeed plan to write (and am writing) more Aragorn stories. I plan to devote myself to a sequel of this story once I finish writing and posting my Glorfindel story "Elf Interrupted". Even though Aragorn doesn't appear in them, I hope you will take a peek at some of my other stories. For instance, "Elladan's and Elrohir's Not So Excellent Adventure" and the companion piece "Erestor in the Dock" describe the story Elrond and Glorfindel tell Aragorn while he's recovering at Rhosgobel from the orc wound. I look forward to reading your comments on other chapters. Thanks again.

I really am enjoying this story, starting with the 'squabbling friends' relationship that Elrond and Glorfindel seem to share! Loved the discussion about when they should have left and whose fault it was ! LOL Also, I like your portrayal of Aragorn - I got to thinking about the fact that as one of the Dunadain, even at 25 he would be fairly young. An adult - but a very young adult. He really wouldn't be a seasoned, mature warrior until much later in his life, would he? That makes the fact that he is looking for a good, close friend very moving to me. He wants a 'brother of the heart', not a mentor or a casual companion. I am so looking forward to this trip and hope Aragorn finds his gwador...and Glorfindel finds his umbrella! LOL

(Good for us that you finally got Internet in China...now we get to read your great stories!) :-)

Author Reply: Thanks Linda, I really appreaciate your comments. I had fun writing the interaction between Elrond and Glorfindel in this scene, which was the first scene I saw but had no idea where it was going until Estel showed up.

Yes, Aragorn is an adult, but I remember so was I at 25, but I wouldn't say I was really mature, and certainly I still looked to my parents and other "real" adults for guidance even though I was on my own and living my own life. I imagine it would've been much the same with Aragorn, especially with his relationship with the elves.

And it's good for me that I finally got internet in China, too...now I can read Everyone eles's great stories! I was suffering from SOA withdrawal. Not a pretty picture.

I'm so glad you are able to continue writing and posting, Fiondil!

I like this look at Imladris, with Elrond and Glorfindel being very real with each other, with the bits about jealousy, and the way Estel/Aragorn fits/doesn't fit all the places he goes. He has roles, but not necessarily his own place in the world.

Elrond and Glorfindel are bound to be amusing. Looking forward to more.

Author Reply: I'm glad I am able to post as well. It took three weeks to get internet service here in China but finally I'm online again. Life is good.

I tried to make the relationship between Elrond and Glorfindel very real; after all they've known each other for two ages, and whatever master-servant relationship they may have, they are also friends and can tease each other. The same with the other people in Imladris.

And Estel/Aragorn is just young enough to feel a bit insecure about himself, I think.

Stay tuned for more.

Great start to your story, I love how Estel does not mind the rain, he is just happy to be going somewhere new. And he is still looking for someone to be his friend. Had to laugh about the 5 year old wanting his nana and ada to have a baby brother for him.

Author Reply: Glad you are enjoying the story so far. Yes, I had fun writing about 5-year-old Estel wondering where his own brother is; a typical response of younger siblings. I look forward to hearing your comments of later chapters.

I'm loving this story!Estel coming of age is one of my favorite subjects as well as when he first encounters Legolas.
Love the banter between Elrond and Glorfindel as well as the Estel teasing done by everyone. Please update soon, cheers Fawlen.

Author Reply: Thanks, Fawlen. I'm glad you are enjoying the story so far. I thought an Aragorn-coming-of-age story would be fun to write, and part of the fun is writing (and reading)the banter between the characters. You know they care about each other and yet can tweak each other without anyone taking offense, especially Elrond and Glorfindel who have been friends for an Age and a half (at least). I will be posting chapters on a regular basis, so stay tuned.
