Orcs and wargs! You don’t give them any respite, do you? You were right, you’re getting even more evil. But if I’m not completely mistaken, that is the scene Glorfindel dreamt of so many years ago in Valinor and that led him to ask Aldarion to teach him the use of the great war bow. Hm, Elrond is suspecting that someone is pursuing the heir of Elendil here, isn’t he? And he and Glorfindel do know who is buried under these mounds? Oh, Manwë’s eagles and the Beornings to the rescue! Love that idea. Obviously Manwë himself wants Estel to survive. What a pity that Estel probably will never truly remember this flight. But it's a nice idea that he honoured the eagle that saved him in taking his name later on in Rohan and Gondor. And I see Radagast has already realised who Estel truly is. I notice Glorfindel’s sword is named Daenagnir here. What did he do with Aranna? Author Reply: This is definitely the road trip from hell, that's for sure. lol And you are correct that this is the scene that Glorfindel foresaw. When I wrote this story, 'Elf Interrupted' was not even a glimmer in my mind. I suspect that even for the elves they might have different swords over time. Perhaps Glorfindel left Aranna behind in trust for his eventual return. We'll have to see.

No fool, Radagast! And love his irony: "I see my fame precedes me." Have to love the Brown Wizard. And I'm glad you, too, have seen him living in a home gifted him by living trees! I've loved that image for so long! Author Reply: I was never satisfied with how Tolkien portrayed Radagast and have assumed that Gandalf's description is actually how Saruman perceives him, so I wanted to write him as being much wiser and knowing than people think, and I couldn't see him living in anything but a bower.

Love your discription of Radagast and his house, the birdsnest in his hair was a good touch. Poor Estel, an orc this time, but he did get to ride on a eagle, named Thorongil. Author Reply: yes, I thought the birdsnest was a good touch too. Since there is little description of Radagast and his environs in LOTR, I was free to let my imagination roam.

You write a very mean battle scene, Fiondil! I found myself holding my breath all the way through the ambush and the chase, and when our three intrepid heroes turned to fight, I kept hoping that reinforcements from ANYWHERE would turn up. And I suppose they did, AFTER Estel is wounded! Bless his heart, he just can't buy a break lately! Once again, your details are so interesting - the names of the swords and the history of the mounds where they found themselves making their last stand. But wait! Eagles and some very large bears to the rescue! deep breath And Radagast! He has always been a favorite character of mine, especially in his interactions with the wood elves. (At least in the fanfics I have read g). I so glad Radagast is taking such good card of Estel, though I'm sure he feels that the heir of Isildur needs some new and extended history lessons! :-) Great chapter! linda Author Reply: Thanks, Linda, I appreciate your comments. I really don't know too much about sword fighting (although I did take fencing in college sometime back in the last millennium), so I'm glad to see that someone thinks I got the scene right. As for Radagast: I always thought Tolkien gave him short shrift, and I thought I would "correct" that impression. Obviously, Gandalf's characterization of his brother Maia at the Council of Elrond is from Saurman's twisted point of view. I never thought of Radagast as having failed in his mission, sidetracked maybe, but not failed in the same way as Saruman failed. Keep reading. It only gets better.

Wow. I'm impressed. Things happen so fast in your story, but I'm glad they do. Never a dull moment, LOL So that's where Estel got his name "Thorongil". I find it interesting, the way you were able to work that into the story. What language is the name anyway? Sindarin or Westron? (I could never figure it out.) I really enjoy the fast updates. :-) Author Reply: Well, fast-paced stories are what made old-time serials so popular and I try to have something happen every other chapter to keep the reader interested. Thorongil is Sindarin meaning "Star of the Eagle" or "Eagle-star" depending on how you want to read it. Glad you're enjoying the story. There's more to come.
