Legolas’ built in radar failed? What a hoot. I didn’t think an elf ever got lost in his own territory. That must have been some snowstorm if even the horses couldn’t find their way. It’s a good thing Mithrandir arrived when he did. But then, isn’t that what the Istari do? Author Reply: Well, it could happen to anyone, I suppose, even an Elf. The storm is somewhat suspicious. Even Thranduil did not sense it coming and so there's the hint that it was sent by Sauron or whoever was hiding in Dol Guldur. So Legolas and Aragorn were lucky that Mithrandir returned to the Stronghold when he did.

Thranduil has an odd way to welcome visitors, LOL. Must be his version of Námo’s spiral maze at the entrance to cut down on repeat visits ;) I’d like to be a fly on the wall during their conversations if this greeting is anything to go by! It’s good to see Legolas and Estel becoming friends. Particularly Estel really needs one. Nice difference to Elrond and Glorfindel, who are behaving like mother hens grin glares And you did send another cold to the poor lad! By now, Estel should know to run away as soon as you’re showing up at the horizon ;) Author Reply: I think with Thranduil, what you see is what you get and if you can accept that as Elrond and Glorfindel apparently have, then he's not too difficult to understand. I think Legolas was as much in need of a friend as Estel, so they both found something in one another that they had not found in other people. As for the cold... it's really just a continuation of his weakened condition from the poison and all... being out in inclement weather and all.

Two princes destined for greatness and the final journey against Sauron--of course Evil Wills would wish them to become lost NOW. Oh, unless you're writing the contraction for "it is," you should write "its" rather than "it's." Now the English teacher in me is coming to the fore! Heh! Author Reply: Yes. I'm sure the sudden storm was more than just a fluke, but luckily Gandalf was there to see to their safety. And thanks for the correction. Even my beta missed them and she rarely misses anything.

Now I don't see Thranduil as overly rude - outspoken, irrascible maybe, and temperamental...LOL But after all, he is a King, and thus subject to little outbursts and such! :-) I like the way the healer and Legolas take care of Estel. Legolas is turning out to be a good friend (hmmmm?), even if he is an elf...and his two friends are funny, too, the way they tease and pick on their Prince and the mortal! I enjoyed going with Legolas and Aragorn on their tour - and the ride the next day, too, until the 'blizzard' hit! I'm glad Mithrandir came looking for these two - I had to laugh that Legolas was just a tad off course in trying to get home! Can't wait to hear what Mithrandir and Aragorn talk about when they finally get together! Another great chapter, Fiondil! I'll have to go back and pick up the 2 or 3 I missed! That poisoned shard in Aragorn's wound was particularly nasty - and the trip along the path through Mirkwood particularly spooky (tho' I loved the sound of the silver horns herding the spiders into the elves' trap!) Linda Author Reply: I've never thought of Thranduil as rude or incompetent either, but I have seen him as less refined than Elrond or even Celeborn. It makes him more fun to play with. If all the elves were super sweet guys, they'd be boring! Glad you are enjoying the story. I think you will like the way the relationship between Aragorn and Legolas develops over the next few chapters, as well as the friendship between Aragorn and Mithrandir (the whole point of the story). And yes, go back and read the chapters you missed! You'll like the story even better if you do grin.
