What a great story. I've been reading quite a lot of fan fiction lately and much of it is filled w tons of misspellings, missing phrases or confusing passages - your writing is very smooth, the characters are easy to connect with and the flow of the story makes it easy to understand and interesting to read. I'm off to see what other stories you've written - thanks Tina!

Cute little story. A much more believable Aragorn-meets-Legolas story than many I've read. Is Estel always this much trouble? ~Eruherdiriel Author Reply: I'm glad you found the meeting between Aragorn and Legolas believable, Eruherdiriel. I never cared for the Legolas-and-Estel-get-into-trouble-all-the-time stories. Those seemed unrealistic to me when you consider that Elrond went to great lengths to keep Estel's identity a secret. Anyway, it was fun to have the lone Mortal in the group get into all sorts of trouble while the Elves around him don't even get their hair mussed. LOL! The sequel to this story, "Stirrings of Shadows" is a bit more serious in tone but you might still enjoy reading it. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate you doing so very much.

I bookmarked this story years ago, but lately I don't find as much time to read longer fics as I used to (sadly), so I only took this up now. Basically, it had everything I love in a story. It is a gapfiller. Yes, a very long and elaborate gapfiller, but Tolkien was kind enough to leave many blind spots for fanfic authors to fill, and I love seeing what different things different authors do with it. It had Aragorn - lots of it. Nothing I could love more, and most I liked most was the fact that she convincingly showed him on the bring from still being Estel (being brought up in Imladris by elves) and Aragorn (chieftain, king-to-be). This worked really well for me. (Funniest moment: bingdrinking!Aragorn - never thought I'd see this in a fanfic *g*.) And it had lots of other fascinating characters as well. I just saw you also wrote a sequel. I hope it won't take me another four years to read this:) Author Reply: Hi Michelle. Well, I'm glad you did finally get a chance to finish reading this story and that you enjoyed it. I like filling in the gaps, and this one was a lot of fun to write. And I'm glad you liked my portrayal of a young Aragorn still finding his way between 'Estel' and 'Aragorn'. There is indeed a sequel, "Stirrings of Shadows". It is, however, much longer and not as light-hearted, though there are still some funny moments. I do hope you are read it, though. I think you might enjoy it. And, just for the record: I'm not a 'she' but a 'he'. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. Enjoy my other stories when you get the chance to read them.

Now Estel’s training really begins as he becomes Strider and sets out to learn about every corner of his kingdom, and to forge his relationship with the King of Rohan and the Steward of Gondor. His mother must learn to let go which is naturally hard for her. I think staying in Imladris is a wise choice. I know I would stay were I in her shoes. Elrond will be a great comfort for her. This is an excellent ending to this tale. Now, on to the next part. Author Reply: It was because of this story that Ainu Lairë asked for a sequel showing Aragorn as Thorongil in Rohan, which is how "Stirrings of Shadow" came about. Many people wanted to know what happened to Erestor once it was revealed that he was the one to send the two scouts, so I wrote "Erestor in the Dock" to tie up that particular loose end.

The journey back was remarkably uneventful, I have to say! After all that happened on their way to Mirkwood, it has to be a nice respite for them. Well, it makes sense that Aragorn goes to Gondor and tries to learn more about his future Southern Kingdom, even if not everyone is happy with the idea. Um ... the last line in Gilraen’s diary is rather suspicious. Somehow I am sure at least the cliff incident counts among these parts of the journey they did want Gilraen *not* to know about ... Lovely story, Fiondil! It was nice to know how Estel’s friendships with Legolas and Mithrandir started. Not to mention all the adventures Estel has had on this trip – and the humour that allowed some respite before the next disaster struck ;) Author Reply: Thanks, Kitty. I'm glad you enjoyed the story from beginning to end. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to review the chapters. I really enjoyed reading your comments.

Now he sets out to meet his destiny, and his mother worries for him. And you see her remaining within Imladris, do you? Now we see how the partnership of Aragorn and Gilhael started, and we see Halbarad beginning to appreciate his future position amongst the northern Dunedain. Author Reply: I think Gilhael might have stayed in Imladris. It has become her home and while she might visit her kin among the Dúnedain, I think she would've remained in Imladris for Aragorn's sake. Halbarad, of course, has his own destiny to fulfill and this will be only the first of many separations that will culminate in the final separation between these two on the Pelennor Fields. Gilhael, of course, is a figment of my imagination, but hopefully he will find a place in the hearts of my readers. Thank you for reviewing.

Well, I'm certainly glad Aragorn is back in Imladris and all in one piece! Probably no more so than Aragorn himself, I guess. I had my doubts there a few times, and I was afraid something was going to happen on the trip back! Maybe an attack by Beorn's bees...LOL This was very enjoyable all the way through. I especially liked the friendship with Legolas, and Mithrandir, and how he even wins over Thranduil. Your characterization overall is very good, all of them quite believable. I'll be reading more of your stories XD Author Reply: I'm sure Aragorn was VERY happy to be home safe, if not necessarily sound. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed this story and I'm happy to see you will be reading more of my stories. There is a sequel to this story (more seriously written) called "Stirrings of Shadow". It picks up where "Tad Edhel" leaves off, more or less. Thanks for reviewing.

I really enjoyed this story and it kept my interest all the way through. All the characters were believable, and their inteactions great. I also enjoyed that the story had humor, adventures, and angst all in one. Your ending, where Gilhael showed she knew what had happened to her son was the perfect touch. I would like to know is how she knew. Thanks for sharing this story with all of us. Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed this tale, Elf Lover. As for how Gilraen knew about what happened... she's a mother! Mother's always know about such things, at least mine always did. *grin* Thank you for reading the story and letting me know how much you enjoyed it. I appreciate it very much.

The best praise I can give to such an excellent work is, that there where moments when I was reading that I forgot this was a fanfiction, and really believed tolkien to be the author of such a story. It is not only pausible, but also well wrtten with enough descriptions to make it clear but not overwhelming. I hope you continue writting. SW. Author Reply: Oh, I do not intend to stop writing and I hope you check out some of my other stories as well. I post almost exclusively at Stories of Arda. I'm very gratified that you found this story to be more as if Tolkien had written it rather than some fan. That's high praise indeed. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's a writer's lembas and miruvor.

I've finished reading this story and am ready for the sequel! I always enjoy finding a new writer with your skill level. I almost missed the chance to read this because I was a little intimidated by the amount of Author's Notes and words that had to be translated. Even though I had to stop and think about the months (I kept wanting to turn them into people's names! Grin!), you write so well, I wasnt distracted for long. I'm glad I decided to print it because it is a great story! nautika Author Reply: I'm glad you decided to read (and finish) this story. Thank you. I'm sorry if the notes and translations were intimidating. I just love the Elvish languages and like to incorporate them into my stories whenever possible, though I do try to curb my enthusiasm, since I know not everyone can read Quenya or Sindarin fluently. *grin* And the notes, especially the historical ones, help to put the story in perspective with respect to the history of Arda as Tolkien sets out in the Tale of Years. Many readers I think appreciate knowing just where and when they are in relation to other events happening in Middle-earth.
