Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Hobbits  by GamgeeFest 19 Review(s)
Queen GaladrielReviewed Chapter: 8 on 2/2/2007
I seem to have missed this! Yes, Gimli should trust his father, LOL!

Leave it to Pippin and Merry to be obnoctious kids! *tsk, tsk, tsk* Good grief.

I love authoritative, older-cousin Frodo! :)

And the argument about titles had me laughing hysterically! Hahahaha! No wonder poor Boromir was confused! What a lot of rules, my goodness! I admire the amount of research you had to have done for this. And it made some things more clear to me as well, so thank you!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Gimli needs to start listening to his father! LOL First the tea party and now this. You think he'd learn his lesson. ;)

Lads will be lads! Thankfully, they have their dutiful and responsible older cousin to steer them right. Or unfortunately, if you're Merry and Pippin. LOL I think a good portion of their remaining time in Rivendell will be spent in pursuit of those books.

I think that discussion was more heated than the Council of Elrond! Er, movie-verse Council of Elrond, at any rate, since Elrond would never have allowed that to happen. But I digress. It take a lot of time to figure out all those rules, and I was confused for awhile there myself! I don't blame Boromir for getting worked up. :D And I'm glad this helped to clarify some things for you! *hugs*

Woman, you MUST be part hobbit! The questions and answers you come up with!! OMG... THE LIST. Holy cow, how did you figure all that out??? Waaaaay too confusing for me! Poor Boromir, and poor Gimli! And this is all 'pre-quest', too! Now I know what their days and nights were filled with! LOL Great story!

Author Reply: LOL! Of all the races in ME, the hobbits are the ones I identify with the most - so maybe I do have some hobbit blood in me somewhere down the line. ;)

It did take quite a long time to straighten out those Rules, at least enough for me to write them down. I've been using some of the rules for awhile in my writing, but this finally made me sit down, go through the books, and figure them all out. Poor Boromir and Gimli indeed! Gimli only wanted to talk with Sam and life as the Steward's son did not prepare Boromir for this!

At least by the time the Quest comes along, everyone will be more or less used to the hobbits and their peculiar ways. :D

Whew!! What a conundrum! And a funny one at that. Loved this and giggled all the way through.

Author Reply: Thank you! If Boromir only learns one thing about hobbits, it's to never ask them to recite things! lol I'm glad this made you laugh. :D

That was very good advise Gimli gave to Sam - all creative artists should take heed. What a complicated set of Rules though - Boromir's head must have been spinning! So continues his crash course on hobbity ways. That was cute about the Elves getting caught by the snowballs and best of all was Sam tucking his Frodo in for sleep and their murmured exchange - what love. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author Reply: It's very easy to get caught up trying to emulate an artist/writer that you admire and Sam is no different. Once he realizes that his own voice is just as adequate to describe Rivendell, he'll get his poem written much more easily.

And those Rules are just a drop in the bucket! They have Rules for everything, and they know those by heart also. :D Boromir would be wise to follow Gimli's lead in this also - don't try to understand! lol

Snowballs and hobbits are a deadly combination indeed. Glorfindel learned that quickly enough, and if the snow sticks around the other returning search parties will learn it also. :D Frodo dreaming of mushrooms just seemed appropriate and we know from Gandalf that he talks in his sleep. Sam would naturally encourage him to indulge in his dream!mushrooms, knowing they were unlikely to find any growing in nature this time of year. ;)

“How does that make sense?” Boromir asked.

There is a lot to be said for that point of view. I think I would go along with the philosophy - don't even try to make sense of it. It'll just give you a headache.

Frodo's recitation of the Rules was very helpful, though. Very helpful indeed!

Author Reply: Boromir would do well to take notes from Gimli. You don't see the dwarf getting any headaches. :P

Frodo had many teachers over the years, one being his Aunt Dora. She would have been very proud of Frodo's recitation here.

This was absolutely darling!!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D

DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 8 on 12/7/2006
This was marvelous! I could just *see* Aunt Dora, nodding approvingly, as Frodo recites those rules so perfectly. And really, for hobbits, who memorize their family trees to the umpteenth cousin, it would be a snap to memorize those Rules of Address!

Really very funny, to see the confusion of Boromir and Gimli, on hearing it all. *grin*

Author Reply: Thank you Dreamflower!

Frodo did his Aunt Dora proud. She can rest in peace knowing that her nephew has perfect knowledge of the Rules. lol Hobbit memory capacity is truly amazing - they'd put the most high-tech computers to shame with all the stuff they can cram into their heads. :D

Ah, but Gimli's a bit smarter in this - he doesn't even *try* to understand! lol Once he knew what the argument was about, his concern in the matter was over. Saves him many a headache. ;)

This is brilliant! And so much fun. All of it was thoroughly delightful, and this had me laughing out loud: "...if he gave these hobbits an inch, they’d take the whole mine!" Thank you.

Author Reply: Gimli may not have had much interaction with the hobbits up until now, but he's observed them enough to know that they are quite the charmers and that all of them have a spark of mischief, some more than others. They'd take the whole mine, all right - in fact, they'd take the mountain too it you let them! lol

Thanks for reading!

SeleneReviewed Chapter: 8 on 12/5/2006
Poor Boromir, he should not try to understand a hobbits logic. Fot anyone who's not a hobbit it is completely bewildering ;)
You have done a remarkable job on untangeling all of the rules! I'm glad I now have a place to find them should I ever need them, THANKS :)

Author Reply: Hobbit logic is quite unique, but you have to give Boromir props for trying. He's not one to back down from any challenge. ;) It was quite a bit of work straightening out those rules! I'm glad it was helpful!

Thanks for reading, Selene!

This is very fun, very hobbity . . . and very confusing!! :-) I have a lot to study to really be a hobbit.

Well done, GF!

Author Reply: Hobbit school is not for the faint of heart. lol I think Gandalf was exaggerating when he said you could learn all about their ways in a month. Sure, maybe if you're a wizard! ;)

Thanks for reading!
