A touching story.Sam must miss Frodo dreadfully. Author Reply: I would think that first Yule without Frodo must have been difficult, as it so often is when we miss those we love.

Oh, this is so sweet and compliments Dreamflower's fic so well! It seems so right that this gift should "go round", and Sam's Yule will be the happier for it. And speaking of gifts, I'm doing special fics for the five of you: you, Antane, Frodo B., Elanor S., and Harrowcat (well, I'm going to try--so busy! and I'm already having some interesting writing issues), and as of now I'm sort of at a loss...anything you'd like in particular? Thank you for this, and Merry Christmas! Hope to catch up on "Rings" and "Tenant" very soon. God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: I'm having difficulties as well, as I don't have my laptop available, probably until after Yule, so I can appreciate the difficulties of others. It's difficult to find time to write when the server is being shared with so many others. A gift story for me? A moment when Merry is supremely glad to be Frodo's cousin.

What a great follow-up as to what became of Frodo's drawing of wee Merry and Dahlia! Sam will always treasure anything portrayed by Frodo's hand. ~Elemmírë~ Author Reply: Yes, I think this will mean a good deal to Sam. So glad you approve, Elemmire. Thanks so much!

"I doubt as Master Frodo ever understood as just how much as all kinds of folks loved him and membered him with joy, you know.” Larner, you're amazing! That's exactly what I thought after reading Dreamflower's story. But somehow I didn't find the right words. What a wonderful idea of Dahlia to give the present to Sam and Rosie and remind them that way that for years to come Frodo Baggins will not be forgotten, but will be remembered with joy. Thank you! Author Reply: Oh, I agree. It's for the small things we are often best remembered, after all. And I think Frodo's legacy of thoughtfulness to those who aren't seen as mattering a good deal would have helped the entire Shire to have been a better place for his having lived there than even those who knew and loved him best appreciate.

And Sam's too modest too to realize how much he left his mark also. Indeed these two were brothers. What a nice gift to get - and for us too! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane Author Reply: Yes, both Frodo and Sam tended to underrate their own worth.

Oh, very sweet and a nice yule gift for us. It would be wonderful for Sam, and for any of the others, to have a painting of Frodo's. I wonder where the dragonfly is? :) Author Reply: Yes, once again Dreamflower has managed to get my own brain kickstarted. And Sam needed that picture right then. As for where the dragonfly is, we'll have to use our imagination, I suspect. Heh!

I lovede Dreamflower's story and it was such a treat to find a sequel today. Gifts go round, and this was a balm to poor Sam's troubled soul. A lovely glimpse of the Bag End residents and a very insightful look at those last moments of the Ring's existence. I've often wondered what would have happened to Frodo if Gollum had not snatched it back so quickly. Author Reply: Certainly Tolkien's own idea of what would probably have happened had Gollum not taken It was terrible enough. Tricked into confronting the Nazgul before he had strength enough to truly command them, then carried to Barad-dur to be given to Sauron.... (Larner shivers with disgust!) And this was one mathom that ended up truly easing the soul of its recipient. So glad Dreamflower wrote her story so I could do a sequel of sorts to it! Thanks for the review!

It hadn’t been able to totally take him till the very last, and even then Gollum had taken It so quick It hadn’t been able to make certain of Its victory That is true, though I shudder to think what would have happened if Frodo had held the Ring longer. But somehow it is comforting, too, to know the Ring didn't suceed completely after all the time It tried to take Frodo. And before It could try to do something about it, maybe to turn Gollum and Frodo against each other in an attempt of murder (or whatever the Ring would've done), It was destroyed. Serves It right for being so nasty to my Frodo. This little gift was exactly what Sam needed to cheer him up on this day. I am sure this picture, painted by Frodo, was the perfect Yule gift for him. Not only it is another memento of his beloved Master, but a sign how much others he wasn't truly aware of loved Frodo, too. Very nice of Dahlia to give this picture away - I am sure it must have meant a lot to her, too, as a reminder of both Merry and Frodo. Author Reply: What the Ring would have done to OUR Frodo is indeed a question, and certainly Tolkien's own suggestions of It betraying him to the Nazgul is nasty enough. And am so glad you felt the gift was properly bestowed. Certainly you're right--that this was a true indication that love for Frodo burned throughout the Shire, often in places he was unaware of. But the gift had done its work with Dahlia and was ready to be returned.

Ohhh very sweet! I liked Dreamflower's story very much, and this is a delightful follow-up, if it can be called so. Now that's the nicest instance of "regifting" I've come across yet.;) Glad something came along to cheer Sam's Yule. ~~~{~@ Author Reply: Am so very glad you appreciate it, Armariel. I love finding other stories that inspire me to follow up on them. And am so glad you appreciated the "regifting." Thanks!

'...scouring the heart right out of the one as had carried It.' Incredible sentence... Of course, I loved the whole story - but that line just 'scoured' me. Author Reply: Well, at least the vessel is now receiving its final cleansing and is being readied once more to be refilled. I'm just glad Frodo accepted the gift at the last and has the chance to know full joy and delight once more. Thanks so much for the feedback, Agape.
