Author Reply: I always found that scene amongst the trolls very interesting. It really helps tie together Bilbo's adventure and the hobbits' journey many years later. | |

Trolls and… all of it?” “Yes, it’s real,” Merry said softly. “I wish it wasn’t, but it is.” He helped his cousin on with his pack. “Don’t think about them anymore, Pip; I’m sure you’ll never see another troll.” As they left the glade, Pippin cast one last backward glance at the massive, once-living creatures, forever frozen in stone. How do you do it!?!? Oh.My.Gosh. You still never cease to amaze me. I didn't comment on the "he promised not to become a wraith" line earlier (though I should have... poor Merry's heartbreak was precious), but now this?? Of course we have full knowledge of their story before they do, but... wow. I'm so glad this plot bunny bit you so hard! LOL This is just wonderful! :) Author Reply: Thank you so much, Dayna. | Now you have me thinking of all sorts of nefarious reasons why the wraiths didn't take the ring - did they want him to make it to Rivendell, because they hoped to take Elrond and Vilya when they gained control of Frodo? That would add a whole level of intrigue, wouldn't it? | |

| “Not a chance,” Pippin huffed. “Never let it be said that a Took collapsed before a Baggins did.” “I refuse to collapse,” Frodo said fiercely. “So do I,” Pippin murmured. “Apparently it doesn’t matter if we’re tired, Sam,” Merry sighed. “Apparently not, Mr. Merry.” You do fantastic hobbit banter. Just fantastic. And I love that all the hobbits are getting some time in this story and not just Frodo or whoever. You balance that very well. Oooh, and Pippin with the trolls...very eerie. | |

| I like the realisation dawning in this chapter. Frodo realising that he's not just "carrying" the Ring. But that he is "bound up" with it. Pippin realising that the world outside the Shire isn't a fairy story. That there realy are a lot more nasty things out there . . . apart from Ringwraiths of course. | |
