Uh, about time I leave another review for one of your stories, I think ... been terribly lazy, I know. But the further this story evolves, the more I enjoy it.
Even given the AU premise that Frodo knew Strider before the quest and that Strider did not have to overcome the initial distrust of the Hobbits (well, at least not of all Hobbits), the dark events at Weathertop could not be prevented. I like the way you portray the Hobbits' way of offering comfort to each other, the way they verbally (and, most likely, literally) push each other up that hill. But, until he had seen the Trolls with his very eyes, Pippin had obviously thought it all a game, more or less. I wonder how he will cope with the realization that the Trolls were for real, and, as well as the trolls, the rest of the evil creatures from Bilbo's stories. |
