| So Glorfindel is finally meeting with Lord Manwë though, based on your note at the end, not on Taniquetil. This, being Glorfindel, is bound to go somewhere. Ingwë's response was quite enigmatic and it's hard to tell if he's pleased or not. Interesting that he was so insistent on escorts for the ellith. Being Arafinwë's sister, Ingwion should be at least the same age as she is, so couldn't he be the adult supervision? Then again, Ingwë may feel that he at least needs to keep some sort of a hold on things, especially where Glorfindel is concerned. It was wonderful to see everyone really being good friends to Glorfindel. I think that's what he really needs at this point. "Tell that to Arafinwë and Eärwen." This was really special, and I can't help wondering if Ingwion has been talking to Arafinwë or if he is just able to guess. So was Ingwion 12 solar years? (That would be what, 6 human years or less?) That story made me laugh. Poor elfling. It would be intimidating for anyone to be brought before all the Valar, much less an elfling. It made me wonder if that was the first time the Valar got to meet a screaming elfling up close and personal *giggles* "It is not for thee to decide if thou wilt or no, child. The Elder King of Arda hath summoned thee this night. Come." This gave me shivers. I can't blame Glorfindel for having second thoughts though I will agree with Ingwion, the alternative is worse. Hopefully the Elder King isn't too hard on him :) Now we wait and see. Thanks for writing! Author Reply: Hi Hawkeye. Yes, Glorfindel is finally getting his wish, although not quite the way he imagines it. With regards to the ellith, Ingwë is merely expressing the mores of the society where young, unmarried ellith do not venture forth from the home without a suitable chaperone, meaning an older, married elleth. And actually, Ingwion is older than Findis, but he is an ellon and an unmarried one, so as a chaperone he would be considered unsuitable. Ingwë is simply making sure that there is no hint of impropriety. Ingwion would not be quite six, more like 5-1/2 and even a half-year can make a difference in terms of social and emotional development at that age. The whole point of this meeting is to help Glorfindel to recover from what has recently happened to him, so I doubt the Elder King will be anything but kindness itself. Thanks for reviewing. | "Well, at least you were quiet about it," Ingwion said with a snort. "The first time I was brought here I started screaming." Glorfindel stared at the Vanyarin prince in surprise. Ingwion nodded, smiling wryly. "How old were you?" Glorfndel asked. "About ten I think, maybe twelve," Ingwion replied. "I was being presented to the Powers you see, as Atar’s heir. All the Valar were gathered here in this mansion to meet me." "Why here and not on the mountain?" Glorfindel asked. Ingwion shrugged. "I do not know. I only know that I took one look at this place and started screaming. Atar was beside himself with embarrassment and Ammë was about ready to deny she ever gave birth to me." The prince started laughing and Glorfindel smiled in spite of himself. Alassiel and the others smirked. "So what happened?" Glorfindel asked. "He spent the better part of his stay here sitting on my lap and playing with one of my stars." The elves found themselves scrambling to their feet and bowing as Varda stepped down from the entrance, the wreath of living stars shining brightly above her. Her expression was one of mild amusement. "St-star?" Glorfindel stuttered as he stole a look at Ingwion. Ingwion gave him a weak smile and whispered. "It was a very small star." Varda laughed at that. "Small indeed, but it was the only thing that distracted him enough to shut him up so the rest of us could have a decent conversation." Now Ingwion started blushing as the ellyn and ellith around him sniggered. "I don’t think your parents allowed you to return here until you were well past your majority, did they?" Varda looked at Ingwion, and the amusement in her eyes was not at all condescending. "Something like that," Ingwion laughed ruefully. *falls over laughing* Ai, poor, poor Ingwi. *hugs him* I like Varda's stars, especially the small ones. *grin* And I like the description of Valmar and of Manwe and Varda's mansion. *runs to MS Paint to try to draw a rough map of Valmar* ~Kaylee!!! ~Kaylee!! Author Reply: I modeled Valmar's layout on some of the ceremonial centers of the Mayans and Aztecs, with a few twists of my own. Glad you liked the description of Manwe and Varda's mansion. It was hard to come up with something that would be "not human" in construction. From the description I give of Valmar you should be able to sketch a rough map with no problem. I had to draw one myself to keep things straight as to whose mansion was where along the Landamalle Valion. | |

| Your desciption of Valmar is so beautiful. That is how I picture heaven as being. The Valar are wonderful. How can anyone help but love them? Tari Author Reply: I based the layout of the city on the ceremonial centers of the Aztecs and Mayans. I figured with only 14 Valar, you're not going to need a lot of buildings. *grin* Glad you liked the description. I tried to make it as vivid as possible without overdoing the details. | |

| Sounds as if he has "first-night jitters." Now, he'll be fine, once he gets started with this interview. Love the description of Manwe and Varda's mansion. Author Reply: Yes, this is a rather momentuous occasion for Glorfindel, so he's bound to be a little nervous. Glad you liked the description of the mansion. | |

| I love the inn being called the Laughing Vala. Such a great name. The clothing - and the setting - are beautifully done, but I think the thing I liked best was Ingwion's revelation of the details of his first visit - and the image of little Ingwion sitting on Varda's lap and playing with one of her stars. Even if it was only a very small one! Author Reply: Yes, I thought the image of little Ingwion happily playing with one of Varda's stars while the 'grown-ups' talked rather cute myself. I also imagine they had quite the time convincing said little Ingwion to "give the star back to aunty Varda, dear, it's time to go home". LOL | |

| I love the way they dressed up Glorfy! And poor Ingwion with his first experience there! Too funny! I really like the way you are depicting Ingwe's family (the nice, reasonable ones who don't take themselves too seriously anyway). Wonderful chapter! | Two updates at once :-))) "I will leave it to you and the other ellyn to protect the denizens of Valmar from Glorfindel." *LOL* Well, Ingwë is learning fast, isn't he? Poor Glorfindel, it is understandable why he is so nervous. I'd probably *die* from nervousness ;-( Nice image of Ingwion's first visit there, not screaming only as long as he was allowed to play with Varda's star. I'm sure Glorfindel will tease him a bit about that later. Author Reply: Yes, I'm sure Ingwë is learning very quickly that wherever Glorfindel goes, trouble is sure to follow. *grin* | |
