| I like Mistress Miriel! A piece of her mind would be worth having. And Glorfindel is trying to be very grown up about all this, but it's hard. Still, he could do with being mothered a bit, so maybe it will turn out to be a good thing in the long run. If Miriel was taken aback by having Glorfindel in her house, now she has to deal with Maiar dropping in. And, before she knows where she is, Namo'll be round to tea. Author Reply: Míriel was a delight to write and to get to know. She is full of surprises and very no-nonsense. She's also not afraid of anyone or anything, as subsequent chapters will show. I'm sure eventually she'll get used to Glorfindel's friends ... er ... dropping by. *grin* | |

| Having only just found this story, I read the entire thing over the course of the last two days. Me likes, as it is extremely well researched in view of the Valar and the Quenya used. I especially like how the valar are depicted, both individually and as a whole, especially Namo as he has always, for some odd reason, been my favourite vala. I am looking forward to seeing how 'the bait' does and how this all ends up, and of course I want to know what exactly these surprise properties Aule placed on Glorfindel's pendant from Ingwe. Hmm. Rare that an author can grab me so well with an unfinished story, I think this is only the fourth WIP I'm reading in the past three years... Author Reply: Well, I'm impressed. That's a lot of chapters in two days, but I'm glad you found the story, Tira. Like you, I tend not to read WIPs unless they're by authors with whom I'm familiar and know they will write a good story. Normally, I wait until the work is finished because I never know if they *will* finish it. There are lots of unfinished tales floating around SoA, unfortunately. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to review. Yet another closet Námo-lover comes out into the open. Everyone I know who admits that Námo is their favorite Vala can't really explain why (including me) yet there you are.... and the list keeps growing. *grin* As soon as Aulë lets me know what he did with that pendant, I'll be sure to tell everyone else. These Valar play very close to their chests and half the time I don't even know what they're up to or when they'll even show up. Sneaky little.... well, we won't go there, will we? I look forward to hearing your views on the story as it continues (or when it reaches it's end). | |

| Undoing his braids: hm. Yes and no. I do hope we will have the opportunity to watch Míriel telling Ingwë her feelings! While he accepted Ingwë’s right to punish him as he had, he still resented the public manner in which his punishment had been meted out -- Indeed! He would not be able to compete in the New Year’s tournament as well, for he would have no opportunity to practice with either sword or bow during the time of his indenture. -- Lack of (sword) practice hadn’t stopped him from trouncing Aldarion so easily. Admittedly, the next tournament will include well-practiced experts who fought in Middle-earth. Hm -- of course, his “sword-brothers” could always help him out.... And doesn’t he even get the proverbial half-day off per week that English servants were entitled to a century or two ago? Still the bait. Yeah, I’m worried about that too. [Surely Tulcaner’s got kin and friends in the city....] Plenty of gossip after the trial, and now re. the public apology. On the other hand, through all this, many more people will get to know (or know about) one of the Reborn. Author Reply: Half-day off per week? For a thrall? You're joking, right? *grin* Anyway, I'm sure Martandur and Míriel will treat him well enough, more like a son than a slave, knowing those two, especially Míriel. She has a tough interior but I think we see her soft side coming out where Glorfindel is concerned. As Tulkas pointed out, Glorfindel will always be the bait, whether he knows it or not. | |

| Loved these two newest chapters. Poor Glorfy as the thrall! He did handle it with much grace until the end there. I'm really sure who I feel more sorry for: the two elves Glorfy has to serve or Ingwe after everyone gets through with him. I really like Miriel. She is a hoot and she's got an attitude. She and her hubby must be a bit horrified at what they have gotten themselves into with Maiar hanging out at their house along with a displaced lord. I really like the way you described Ingwe's wife as being so earthy and maternal. That's the way a queen should be. I also hope to see something develop between Alassiel (hope I got her name right) and Glorfindel. I think that could be a fine match indeed for both of them. Love your lessons in jewel lore, too. Keep up the most excellent work! Author Reply: Hi Ellie. I'm glad you enjoyed these latest chapters. At least you're not jumping down my throat over poor Glorfy, like everyone else! I feel sorry for Martandur and Míriel, too. If anything, they're the ones being punished, having to put up with Glorfy's whining. *lol* From the moment Míriel opened her mouth I just knew she belonged to the EWA (Elves-With-Attitudes àla "The Santa Clause"). I'm sure that like many of the Amaneldi, the Maiar are there in the background, but having one show up in your kitchen (never mind three!) is not something you expect or even want. I'm glad you like Elindis as well. She's very shy and I had to coax her out, but Ingwë and their family obviously love her for her shyness and her earthiness. She makes a good counterpart for Ingwë who often has to maintain a certain distance and "unearthiness" as High King of Eldamar. As for anything between Alassiel and Glorfindel... only time will tell, but I think they're a good match, too. | |

| I know I don"t review this story very often but I love it all the same and let me tell you I am in line with the rest! I felt so bad for Glorfindle gosh what a complete jerk Ingwe was to him! Author Reply: Well, you'll have to take a number! *lol* I'm sure Ingwë is beginning to regret a lot of things where Glorfindel is concerned. | |

| Interesting...very interesting. I wonder just *why* Ingwë is so angry? I imagine he was much more scared then he was willing to admit when Glorfindel disappeared, and when he found out he 'just' left, and no one took him, he must have felt a joke had been played on him? Or something like that.... And it is true that you can't just steal a horse whenever you want to go somewhere. Public humiliation may be good for making him 'bait,' but it isn't going to be good for his relationship with Ingwë. It is hard to take such punishment magnanimously, and they were doing so well before. And I notice he isn't wearing his special Aulë-made necklace.... I feel most sorry for his masters, though. It is like having a TV crew show up at your house because you have a celebrity guest - three Maiar in the kitchen! Author Reply: Your analysis of Ingwë's state of mind over Glorfindel's disappearance is very near the truth. I'm not a parent, but when I was in Haerbin on holiday with the other English teacher, Blair, who is half my age, I had an inkling of what my parents went through with five boys. Blair decided to "stay out" for a while the first night we were there and check out some of the beer tents that were beginning to spring up now that winter was over. I went back to the hotel figuring he'll return around midnight or so. He finally showed up at 7:30 am! I spent the night more or less lying awake wondering if I was going to be spending my holiday checking out hospitals and morgues instead of museums and Buddhist temples. I could have killed him when he finally showed up. How Glorfindel and Ingwë deal with their relationship from this point on will of course be grist for the writer's mill and we will see what effects this has on Glorfindel himself and how he relates to others. Martandur and Míriel are both at a loss as to how they should handle this and having three Maiar show up in their kitchen definitely doesn't help the situation. *grin* | |

I expected better from him than to humiliate someone in this fashion over a horse." *applauds* Well said, Míriel!!! And I would *dearly* love to witness her giving Ingwë a piece of her mind, too! I am glad to know this couple is nice to Glorfindel, at least. There may be some who will see Glorfindel’s fall from grace as a license to take advantage of the situation and do the ellon an injury. Exactly my worry. I have to admit, I am glad to know Námo is feeling similar to me. Honestly, even if Ingwë and the others were worried and Glorfindel should have told him that he was leaving, and even if he is in the care of the High King at the moment – Glorfindel is no ten year old elfling who can’t be allowed to leave on his own. In my opinion Ingwë’s punishment is going too far. I’m sure it is true he doesn’t understand how much of Glorfindel’s behaviour is completely normal for a Reborn and not truly Glorfindel’s fault. And if Ingwë keeps Glorfindel from the tournament at New Year, I have to join the line, right behind Manwë, Námo and Míriel! But wait ... I think I will join anyway. And somehow I suppose Arafinwë, Finrod, Sador and Ingwion will have something to say about that, too. Author Reply: Feel free to get in line. I'm sure everyone else will, too. *grin* Martandur and Míriel are in an unenviable position that has been forced on them for reasons they cannot fully comprehend or appreciate, but they're doing their best to make the best of the situation, so they are very sympathetic towards Glorfindel. | |

I suspect that many readers are going to be less than thrill at what has happened to Glorfindel, so I'm happy you find the situation amusing. We'll see the fallout on all of this in the next couple of chapters with, I think, some surprising twists. | |
