Wonderful practice. The play is a bit rough, but what he needed at the moment. And Ingwe will utter his own apologies and acceptance of Glorfindel's apologies soon enough, I believe. Author Reply: Yes. Ingwë and Glorfindel will eventually reconcile though that is not to say their relationship will be quite same after this.

I'm glad to know that Ingwe isn't as impervious as we seemed. I do feel a bit sorry for Ingwe though, too. I'm glad poor Glorfy has found some release for his anger and pain and that he is healing now. Glorfy has some good friends and his master is very wise, too, - all of which Glorfy really needs right now. I hope he does compete at the tournament and kicks some serious butt. I do wonder who Finarfin sent the message to. Don't even have a guess on that one except maybe for the returned exiles on their island or maybe Earendil. Looking forward to the next update! Author Reply: Ingwë, like all good rulers, know how to be ruthless when they need to be, but it doesn't mean they enjoy being so. We will learn in a subsequent chapter why Ingwë did what he did. Being a ruler, and being a good ruler, isn't easy but Ingwë accepts that as part of what it means to be a ruler. Glorfy should begin to heal now that he's been allowed to express his feelings, or rather now that he knows he's allowed to express them. I'm afraid the scene with Manveru and Erunáro was a necessary catharsis for him, to get as much of the emotional poison that had been building up inside him for the last three weeks out of him so he could indeed begin to heal. Don't worry, Glorfindel will indeed compete in the tournament, along with Finrod. Those two should give the onlookers a show to remember. As to whom Arafinwë sent the message and why... we will discover that in a future chapter. [translation: I haven't a clue and I'll have to make something up pretty soon. lol]

This is such a wonderful story and I was so disappointed to reach this chapter where we are left wanting so much more! I am shipping you a box of very potent carrots grown in Lord Elrond's herb patch to feed your bunnies. I hope they are happy and insist on you writing much and often. grin Thank you for sharing such a fabulous tale! I look forward to seeing more...the sooner the better. NiRi Author Reply: Thanks for the box of carrots, but really, my bunnies are just fine. I have already written more chapters than I have posted to date but am not posting them all at once. I will be posting at least once a week though, so you shouldn't suffer from too much EI withdrawal. grin I'm glad you finally caught up with the rest of us and have enjoyed reading this tale.

“I’m just not that ... creative.” -- Nonsense! If he can embroider, he’s creative -- or I should say, if he can embroider well, he’s creative. Poor Glorfindel keeps going AWOL. Hopefully Míriel and Martandur aren’t too worried at his absence. I loved the Maiar tossing Glorfindel back and forth like a beach ball (my mental picture, not perhaps what you had in mind). Well, now things are (somewhat) better, so I spose the Bad Guys will show up any minute now.... So to whom do you think Arafinwë wrote and why? -- As soon as you said that, my confidence evaporated! My reasoning was that there are a finite number of places the messenger can go in that direction that aren’t Alqualondë (assuming I understand the geography). I can’t think of any reason for Arafinwë to approach Ulmo about this (and it would surely be easier to deliver a message to his mansion in Valmar than go to the seashore and yell). So the destination is Tol Eressëa, home of Gilvagor and Haldir: two Aman-born Noldorin nobles of Arafinwë’s acquaintance who know Glorfindel, speak Quenya, know quite a bit about fighting, and might even have been to Vanyamar in the past. The Valar may not care what mayhem afflicts Glorfindel as long as he’s not outright killed, but Arafinwë has a different point of view. So, Alassiel having told him exactly where Glorfindel is staying, Arafinwë sends in a couple of ringers to keep an eye on his son. In the cold weather, they can even keep hoods over their dark Noldorin hair without looking too silly.... 8-) I’m completely wrong, aren’t I? Elwing’s tower might be in that direction too, but I can’t figure out a reason for Arafinwë to enlist Elwing and Eärendil -- whom Glorfindel will surely not meet for several yéni.... Author Reply: I do embroidery, crazy quilting and crocheting. I cannot begin to tell you how many times people have watched me work on a piece of embroidery and tell me that "I couldn't do that, I don't have the patience". That may be true, but I always point out to them that they have the patience to do other things, do they not? This is no different. Glorfindel, of course, sees doing ribbon embroidery as something like doodling, while what Martandur does is real art and requires real creativity. He sees himself as a warrior and warriors are not creative, or they're not supposed to be, since their main occupation is killing. Of course, that's an erroneous image as well, since a warrior's main occupation is protecting which may include killing, but not necessarily. The beach ball image is pretty accurate. I pictured the two Maiar tossing Glorfindel back and forth with great ease while the poor ellon floudners about trying to escape from them. As for your guesses... you're actually mostly right rather than wrong, although remember that Haldir is already in Tirion as Arafinwë's guest. As for what instructions, suggestions, pleas for help (if any) Arafinwë included in his missive, only time will tell.

Though I suspected from the beginning Glorfindel’s time with Martandur is at least partly a bait for certain elves, I’m still not happy with the whole thing. Would it have been impossible to set this trap if Ingwë had told at least Glorfindel about it? I doubt it. And it would have been better for the relationship between Ingwë and Glorfindel. Not to mention Glorfindel's feelings. Quite a shock for Martandur to have Vairë not only show up at his workshop, but to give him a commission as well. And I loved that little side blow when she finally left (by way of the door) - it’s certainly a bit unusual to see the Valar use the door instead of simply fading away grin Vairë as archery teacher is another nice idea – quite the contrast particularly in this chapter, where she is otherwise behaving like an ordinary housewife. And to ask Ingwë and Valandur about the colour for new clothes for her husband lol I can imagine their faces! By the way, I vote for green instead of black! And I am glad Glorfindel finally got to work out his anger and fury, even if I felt a bit sorry for Manveru for having to take the beating instead of Ingwë. But it obviously helped Glorfindel to get over his frustration, at least for the moment. As for Aldarion, I truly love him. How nice that he at once called his friends together and joined Glorfindel! This normalcy will do Glorfindel some good, I think. Author Reply: As for what Ingwë had in mind about all this... it will be revealed in a later chapter. Glorfindel and Ingwë's relationship will need some patching up, but I think that Glorfindel will not hold a grudge for too long, he's not that kind of elf. Certainly, the relationship will not be on the same level as before, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out. Vairë is somewhat different from the other Valar (being Námo's spouse should tell you how different), so she tends to do things not in the normal way (as far as the Valar are concerned). As for Manveru... never fear, being a Maia does have some benefits. He probably thought Glorfindel was tickling him rather than trying to beat him to a bloody pulp. grin Aldarion gathering Glorfindel's other friends before going to see him is typical of Aldarion. He may be a bit brash and even arrogant but ultimately his heart is in the right place. I'll tell the Lady Vairë you vote for the green. I ought to ask for a show of hands from my readers/reviewers to determine which color she ultimately goes with and then have Námo appear in a later chapter dressed in the chosen cloth. grin

And yet again...It's a wonder the Valar aren't tyotally worn out with trying to dislodge these folks from the set of their ways. Especially enjoyed the appearance by Vairë, she's such a perfect match for Namo! (Acting the ordinary housewife indeed!) and blandly telling the boys to play with Glorfindel...priceless! He needed to vent, and Ingwë needed to witness it. Lessons on many levels... Tell Vairë I said go with the dark green. ;) BC Author Reply: Vairë is a real hoot and she was fun to write about, so down-to-earth and matter-of-fact, with a definite quirky sense of humor. When she started pulling out the various cloths from her basket I almost fell out of my chair laughing, and telling the "boys" to play with Glorfindel while she finished up some shopping.... But she had the right of it. Glorfindel definitely needed to address his anger at Ingwë and Ingwë needed to see it, to see what his own actions were costing Glorfindel. I'll tell Vairë you vote for the dark green! lol
