| I love your remix. Dear Gandalf! He was so testy with Pippin during some of that time, but of course he still cares deeply for him. Author Reply: Yes, I think his gruffness was just a part of his "persona" so to speak. But I am sure the hobbits knew he loved them, especially Pippin. | |

| Ooh; a great Gandalf's-eye view of Pippin's leap! And nice usage of the kindling imagery, so appropriate for the bearer of Narya. Author Reply: Did you see Dana's original? I loved her color imagery, and thought that Gandalf's POV of that leap would be most suitable! I've always thought Narya is underutilized in fic--it seems to me that there are many occasions in canon where hindsight hints that Gandalf might have been busy kindling the spark in hearts that were doubtful... | |

| Dana's drabble is so powerful, and I love the way you've reconstructed it, this time looking through Gandalf's eyes. I'm especially glad that you included the stars, such an important image in the original drabble. Author Reply: I just now realized I'd never answered this comment!! Dana's drabble was amazing, and I was so glad for the chance to try and mirror it from another POV. I wanted to include as much of the original imagery as possible; I'm glad you think I succeeded. | |

| The original was wonderful, and this as excellent. That Gandalf's own power was added to Pippin to kindle his heart for the leap was such a marvelous reference to the power of Narya and the reason for which it was entrusted to Gandalf by Cirdan. Author Reply: I just loved the color and imagery in the original! It's why it inspired me--I do hope you let Dana know you liked it! I would love to see more fic exploring how and why Gandalf might have used Narya--I think in hind-sight there are lots of hints in canon where it seems rather obvious. | |

| One ring is useful for something I see! I always enjoy the relationship between these two. And Iliked the original too by the way! Author Reply: I love the grandfatherly relationship Gandalf displays towards Pippin, myself! And I've always thought that Narya is underutilized in fic--it seems to me that there are several places in LotR, where looking back in hindsight, it appears obvious that Gandalf was making use of its power to kindle hearts. And I love that idea--not that he's casting a spell on someone to make them artificially brave, but that he's lighting the spark of the courage they already hold buried inside them. I loved the original fic--Dana has such a way with imagery, I wanted to try and match that if I could, from the other POV! (And I hope that you let Dana know you liked it!) | |

| Wow...that was a beautiful passage. The Professor makes one quick comment about that scene in the books, yet so much of Pippin's courage is shown in this one feat. Hooray for Pippin! Author Reply: It is. I've read several fine fics about this moment from different people--Baylor's chapter about it in "Care and Feeding" stands out as most excellent, and several other good writers have done it as well. But I so loved the color and light imagery in Dana's drabble, and wanted to see if I could echo it. And hooray for Pippin, who would not even let seven foot abysses keep him from Frodo's side! | |

| Both the original and the remix are simply excellent! I love how you managed to switch from the apprehensive Pippin's point of view to that of the leader Gandalf! His encouragement certainly helped, did it not? =) Author Reply: I hope you let Dana know you loved hers, as well! I truly loved the original drabble so much, that it was hard to think how to remix it--another POV seemed called for, and Gandalf's seemed perfect for that moment! | |
