You got me. It never entered my mind that Ingwë was using Glorfindel as a pawn to catch the malcontents. I’ll bet you are having a lot of fun reading peoples reactions. You do keep us on our toes. I find myself wanting to jump into the story to save the poor Elf even though I know he'll be fine. Tari P.S. How do you find the time, etc. to write three stories at one time? I can barely handle one. Author Reply: I think a lot of people got thrown by Ingwë's actions and motivations, so don't feel bad. As for how I find the time to write FOUR stories (count them) at one time? It helps that I only work 15 hours but get paid full-time, so I have plenty of free time for writing.

I was wondering when this would happen--it had to come about now! Heh! Author Reply: Naturally! grin No sense having a goat bleating if the lion won't take the bait.

Being punished by having to card wool: I always thought carding was a treat (I used to card for a friend who spun her own yarn). But I’m weird. His partners stared in stunned horror at the fallen ellon for a moment before turning to run. -- Even if the dead elf wasn’t particularly a friend of theirs, they’ve almost-certainly never seen anyone die before, so I spose they’re forgiven for trying to flee in horror. On the other hand, they don’t know for certain he’s dead, so their flight might also signify callous disregard for his fate, or general ineptitude.... I’m glad Glorfindel got some help in his fight with the most hapless elves in history. (Not that he actually needed help, of course.) Silly elf! Nothing makes him happy: when he didn’t get any help, he resented it; this time, they do help, and he resents it. The others congregating on the street listened with unabashed interest to their conversation, all the while, studiously not looking at Lord Námo standing near by. -- So the next time there's a fuss, they'll think twice about rubbernecking ... not knowing if Námo might show up. More fuel for gossip! Lucky for Ingwë those bystanders didn't follow him to Martandur and Míriel's house. Author Reply: You're also female and as Martandur tells Glorfindel, Míriel has LOTS of wool to card. Not everyone is a weird as you. grin As for the fleeing elves... any or all of your suggestions are probably true where they are concerned. Glorfindel... well he's a bundle of contradictions, which is why he's such an adorable elfling. I'm sure he'll outgrow it eventually... or not, as the case may be. I'm sure the bystanders had more than enough sense to know when not to follow their king. grin Though that won't stop the rumor mills from grinding overtimme, not when it involves both the High King AND Glorfindel.

I like the way you sprung the trap. g If anyone (especially Glorfindel)had known in advance, the bad guys could have picked up on it. Also love the "slapstick" participation in Glor's fight by the Maiar! I think Glorfindel would realize when he has time to put this in perspective-especially regarding royal prerogative and his history with Turgon-that order must be maintained. I can't see him holding a grudge over it, after all, Ingwë IS trying to protect him! If I remember right, Vairë told Námo a few chapters back that black really isn't his color, lol...although in this instance the intimidation factor as well as his being there in his "official" capacity would make the black appropriate/necessary. Any chance of our being able to get a sneak peek as to what Námo finds to do with the two he has claimed? BC Author Reply: Thanks, Cat, I'm glad you liked my little trap and you're right, both about why the trap was laid the way it was, and Glorfindel havving to come to terms with Ingwë as High King. Glorfindel is not the sort to hold a grudge, so I don't think there are any worries there. Well, black may not be Námo's color, according to Vairë, but it certainly is effective! grin As to what Námo intends to do with his prisoners....yeek! do you really want to know? I don't think even Ingwë is going to be that brave or stupid as to ask.

Glorfindel’s appetite after the training reminded me of the Hobbits. He will get along well with Merry and Pippin, I think – I can see him giving them sword lessons and then raiding the kitchen with them grin Finally! Had already waited for an attack on Glorfindel. Well, they again underestimated him, and again one of the attackers died. And I have to admit, it was rather amusing to 'see' the invisible Maia fighting with Glorfindel; something that was reassuring as well – I was a bit worried he would be injured, fighting unarmed against three armed assassins, so it was a relief to know he was protected so well. After the one died it was only to be expected that Námo showed up, but that he claimed the other two as well was quite the shock for everyone. The two will very soon rue the day they were born, I suppose. And the Valar have decided to tell Ingwë who the other baddies are? Good. These attacks have to stop. And I am glad Glorfindel made his peace with the High King, though I still find it unfair not to tell him anything earlier. Author Reply: I'm sure that Glorfindel and the Hobbits got on like a house on fire, as the saying goes! grin Yes, finally the attack everyone was waiting for, including, Glorfindel. And Námo showing up tells everyone just how serious the Valar are taking this. The first group who attacked Glorfindel did so with no intention of killing him, so they can only be accused of "intent to do bodily harm", which is serious enough, thus their sentence. But the three who attack Glorfindel here are actually intent on vengeance and retribution, so Ingwë's jurisdiction over them has been superseded by that of the Valar. The two surviving attackers may very well rue the day they were born by the time the Elder King and the Lord of Mandos get through with them. The one who died got off too easily. Sometimes being the High King can suck because you have to make hard, unpopular decisions, such as not warning Glorfindel what was going to happen. Ingwë truly needed EVERYONE'S honest unfeigned reaction to his decree in order to convince certain people of the sincerity of it. I'm sure that Glorifndel and Ingwë's relationship will not resume on the same level of trust as before. Perhaps, though, the relationship will be more mature on Glorifndel's part.
