Another disaffected one now with a grudge to bear?

Author Reply: Possibly. You never know.

So Finrod has ensured that the Bad Guys can’t break into the encampment or shoot into it from the trees. That just means they’ll have to do something *else*! I’m no tactician, but I postulate a bit of mayhem at the end of the tourney, when everyone’s tired and some are injured.... Maybe when everyone’s attention is focused on the same spot....

Ingwion arriving at the last minute -- Hm. Wondering what that portends (not so much for Ingwion, but why the sneaky author needed to have him arrive separately from the majority).

Glorfindel still pulling lint out of his hair from carding wool -- That made me laugh, as originally and etymologically “lint” pertains to linen or flax. [Have the Valar been exploring genetic engineering? Does Aman have sheep that grow linsey-woolsey?]

Arafinwë was dismounting with the intention of wiping the ground with the insolent elf -- Good for him! And I rather regret that we didn’t get to see it....

[Hm -- now we have a fancy password to post reviews! Have spiders or bots or AI's or whatever been trying to review stories here?]

Author Reply: As to what will or will not happen at the tourney... we'll just have to see. Finrod and co. have done all they can to ensure everyone's safety but nothing is every truly safe, is it?

I'm sure Glorfindel is using the word "lint" metaphorically, though, who can say what the Valar have been up to all these Ages. *grin*

As for wanting to see Arafinwë wipe the ground with the insolent elf... watching Vorondil attack the same insolent elf was more fun, though, wasn't it?

Ah, finally the tournament! *beams*

Glad to know at least Haldir’s mother is showing sense and welcoming her son back – I hope his father did use his exile well to think about his behaviour. And it’s nice that Mithlas is with them, too. Not to mention Vorondil reunited with his parents.

I can imagine the encampment so well – all these tents, banners flying, and all ... must be wonderful to be there.

It as fun to watch Finrod taking over. He is perfectly right, of course – if the remaining baddies who are still free do plan anything, this large gathering would be a good occasion, so more guards are certainly no luxury. Why do I get the feeling if anything is about to happen, the Amaneldi have to rely on the Tol Eressëans for their own safety, as they themselves are not primed for it?

I’d not minded if Arafinwë had wiped the ground with this arrogant Vanyar, but the reaction of Finrod and the others wasn’t bad, either. And Vorondil ... *shakes head* Honestly, if you’d have told me around the trial he would be so overeager to defend Finrod, I’d questioned your sanity *grin* He’s a sweet elfling, and somehow I’m not convinced he deserves punishment at all - he was trying to protect Finrod, after all. Even if he shouldn’t have attacked the elf, I don’t mind the beating Lassezel got. He was rather condescending, and he should have guessed from the way others obeyed him that Finrod is no common elf and have been more cautious.

Author Reply: I drew on my memories of medieval war re-creation events via the Society for Creative Anachronism for the encampment and eventually the tournament itself.

Finrod is working on long experience of armed encampments in Middle-earth about which the Amaneldi know nothing. He simply takes over as a matter of course and the Tol Eressëan elves at least recognize his authority to do so. Lassezel on the other hand obviously refuses to recognize Finrod's authority and that's where he gets into trouble.

As for Vorondil's punishment... it won't be that bad, I promise, but Finrod needs to teach him how to act appropriately to the situation, something the elfling hasn't gotten a handle on yet.

Finally! Thank you so-so much! Muchas gracias! You have updated and the tournament has come at last! Who will win? What though is the prize? Does it mean that elf goes back to Endor? It just came to me, HOW and WHEN will Glorfindel go back to Endor? Fiondil, I do hope it is not soon though. I am ECSTATIC about this story! It would actually have to be in 2nd place in my Top5 favorite fanfics.

I liked the description at the beginning. It was easy to imagine the gray, rainy weather turn to sunny fine weather fit for the tournament. I am glad there is a tournament for it will force the elves in a way to get to actually know those, in particular the Amaneldi, whom they have treated unfairly and cruelly toward the Reborn and the Tol Eresseans. *_*

AAAAWWWW... How sweet! Vorondil who I just remembered is only an elfling gets to be reunited for a short while with his parents. And ALassiel has changed immensly. When you first introduced her when GLorfindel went to Vanyamar for the first time to now where she is under the care of her older cousin.

Finrod is making great use of Vorondil. HE now has his own washer and dry cleaner for FREE!!!!!! Now isn't that useful? I wonder shouldn't he learn that chore because I am sure Amarie (If they wed) does NOT want to be the one taking care of the laundry all the time till DAgor Dagorath. He would probably annoy her to death with his ignorance of housecleaning. I do hope though that his image of elleth is better because he does not seem like the type of elf to think Elleth BELOW him. What's your opinion?

My favorite part here would have to be where the VAnyarin lord grabs Findarato's arm and Finrod reacts by pulling a hidden knife and putting it at the Lord's throat. I could see it clearly when I read the words. ANother reason I like this scene is because Vorondil comes up and starts beating and shouting at the Vanyarin Lord. It's SO adorable.

I do have to disgree with Finrod on one thing and that is punishing Vorondil no matter how fun the punishment might end up. It is unjust. All Vorondil was doing was PROTECTING his MASTER from someone who was trying to HURT his MASTER.

What came next though was funny. When Ingwe asks his fellow Kings if they have anything to say hten Arafinwe sort of randomly asks his son " 'What's a double patrol?' " It's funny at least to me because when you read the previous lines it comes out a bit...well... different... from what the reader expected to hear from the Noldoran.

Did Sador tell at the end line that he had given Amarie a Begetting Day Gift while he was off frolicking (just kidding...) in Lorien?

Namarie...

Author Reply: So, if Elf Interrupted is No. 2 on your list, what's No. 1? *grin*

As to what the prize for the tournament will be, we'll have to wait and see, though I suspect that a return ticket to Endórë is NOT it. *lol*

I'm sure that Finrod's idea of punishing Vorondil will not be considered a punishment at all but he does need to teach Vorondil that some things are not appropriate behavior for elflings and thralls. And of course, Vorondil knows he was in the wrong. As for Finrod's take on elleths: he has nothing but respect for them and their abilities. After all, he's made Alassiel his squire and though it's part of her "rehabilitation" program it still points out his willingness to train her in arms, something that humans often consider a "man's" perogative while women stayed home and had babies.

I suspect that Ingwë fully expected Arafinwë to back him up against Finrod and was just as surprised as anyone when Arafinwë goes on a completely different tack with his question, especially when you consider that Finrod mentioned double patrols way before Ingwë showed up.

I do so love when Finrod becomes 'kingly'. :) That his father, uncle, and grandfather are all non-plussed by it makes it even better - I especially liked that Arafinwe was amazed that Finrod didn't need to monitor his people to make sure they were doing his bidding. It tells you that he needs to, which is interesting. In dark and desperate times you have to depend on people completely and you can't be watching them every step of the way - what's the point of that? You may as well do it yourself!

Alassiel and Vorondil are going to have an 'interesting' time at the tournament and I don't envy either one of them, especially Alassiel as no one knows what has gone on with her and I doubt she'll want to tell them. Looking forward to seeing how that plays out. :)

Author Reply: The fun thing about Finrod going "kingly" is that everyone who isn't from Middle-earth can't get their minds around that image. They only remember Finrod as the son of Finwë's youngest son, or they remember what he was like when he was first released from Lórien after being Reborn. I'm sure some of them still have difficulty seeing Arafinwë as Noldóran instead of his father, Finwë.

In this scene Finrod's father, grandfather and uncle, all of whom are kings in their own right, see Finrod actually acting as any king would in the issuing of orders. What amazes them, I think, is the readiness in which the Sindar, Nandor and Exilic Noldor obey Finrod without question, even though many of them never lived in Nargothrond nor would they have considered Finrod as "their" king at the time. That has to be very unsettling for them, since it's contrary to their image of him.
