| Sorry, didn't realize I'd missed this! Oh, how terrible Bilbo must have felt when he realized that he had wished, however briefly, for Frodo's death so that he would again possess the Ring! *shudders* I love the way you show them taking quiet comfort in one another, helping one another as they struggled to gain that freedom and the end was just perfect! | How terrible the thoughts came that if Frodo died, it would be his again. How much, however briefly, he had longed for that. How he had nearly attacked the one dearest to him when he had asked to see it again, just a peep, he had said. And he knew he was not free of it and his beloved nephew was becoming ensnared by it as well. He had seen the terrible fear and jealous possessiveness that had come into those formerly so bright and innocent, carefree eyes. Wow! Now that's a very chilling concept that I don't believe I've read about before--Bilbo contemplating the Ring would be his again if Frodo died! Poor Bilbo--although at least he can now more easily recognize the lust the Ring has created in him. Another point you made that I found interesting and one I hadn't quite thought of in that way before was that both Bilbo and Gollum had hope in seeing the Ring again, whereas Frodo had no hope and knew it was gone forever ... along with a piece of himself. That was really cool too, how you had Frodo and Bilbo freely casting overboard their Ring chains. That was an important first step for them both in their journey of healing. A very apt and appropriate "Independence Day" tale, my dear! :D ~Elemmírë~ Author Reply: Hannon le, dear Elemmire! | Ah,yes--there would indeed be joy on THAT day! Happy independence day! Author Reply: Joy indeed - hannon le, dear Larner! I must have been reading Stolen too quickly to realize it was after Frodo knew the nature of the Ring (skimming because I couldn't stand to be around Lotho). I'm sure Frodo would take it back as soon as he found out about who stole it - that would be interesting thing to see if they were both taken by the Ring-lust - a eerie foreshadowing of what the struggle on Mt. Doom would be like, though we know Frodo had all this fingers up to that point. Being intrigued with seeing more is balanced with loathing to see more of Lotho.
