Vorondil is absolutely precious. He reminds me of a six year old. As for the Valar; they are delightful. This chapter was so much fun to read. I, too, giggled at Vorondil’s predicament. This is what I call ruling with a gentle hand. Sador also being on the receiving end. The poor child has had a rough time, but as the Valar feel, I think he is doing a great job of recovering. Tari Author Reply: Yes, Vorondil is pretty much like a six-year-old, at least emotionally, after his Judgment, and he just seems to attract trouble wherever he goes. *grin* The Valar, as I depict them, for all their faults, and they do have them, love the Children dearly and want to be more like elder brothers and sisters rather than authoritarians to them, hence the gentle hand treatment of those who truly are children in every sense of the word: Vorondil and Sador. For all that Sador is technically an adult, he is still feeling his way towards maturity, but he is indeed doing a great job of recovering and the Valar know this and treat him accordingly, even if they do have to reprimand him a little.

What? No mock orange? Or hyacinth? Guessed correctly at the lily of the valley, ome of my favorites. Author Reply: Well, I had to go with what was available in Quenya as far as naming plants and flowers, but I'm sure the mock orange and hyacinth were there too. *grin*

Very enjoyable chapter, as always! I had a question about Finrod. Why is he SO angry with Vorondil? I can understand his initial reaction because Vorondil is always getting into these little 'mishaps', but once he found out that Sador pushed him in, why is he still mad at Vorondil? I loved the conservatory... I'd like to go and visit one just like it or have one in my backyard. :) When the Valar and Maiar are all laughing about the clamming incident, it just makes me laugh. I don't know how they can hold a decent conversation when all of the other stuff is going on in their heads! Well, Sador might not want to know why he was released early, but I do! However, I'm guessing that you won't tell so I won't ask, but you are free to tell me if you want to. :) Ah, Vorondil arguing with Namo... now that's an interesting thought. I'm glad that he was able to accept an embrace from Namo at the end. I imagine he needs a lot of those. Author Reply: Sorry, I seemed to have missed this one. Anyway... I don't think Finrod is so much angry with Vorondil as he's angry with himself or simply with the situation and I'm sure he apologized to Vorondil later on once he calmed down. At this point Finrod is simply exasperated (he's learning what it means to be a parent *grin*). I suspect that the whole clamming thing with Vorondil was to help him "relax" around the Powers. I bet that Námo purposely "started" the argument over who was going to carry the pail just to see how Vorondil would act. And yes, Vorondil certainly does need a lot of hugs, from Námo and everyone else.

You read "culumalda" incorrectly. It's "culuma" (orange fruit) + "alda" (tree) -- Yes, "culumalda" makes much more sense as the singular of "culumaldar" (from what very little I understand of Quenya!). So I think you've got a typo in your Notes, where "culumlada" is given as the singular "orange tree." [I'd been assuming the "culumaldar" in the chapter itself meant referred to the fruit as opposed to the tree(s) that bear them, but in that I wasn't thinking, as I generally *do* recognize the basic words for tree, both in Sindarin and Quenya.... Really I do! Usually....] I decided that there were some scenes I would not be writing simply because this story is getting to long and cumbersome -- No, never too long or cumbersome, at least from the readers' point of view. Author Reply: But you were right that in the notes the singular is misspelled. I didn't catch that. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I have since made the correction. And it may never be too long or cumbersome to readers, but it is for the writer who really wants to get on with other scense. Do you know how many "new" scenes have popped up that keep interfering with me getting to the tournament that everyone (including me) is waiting for!? At this rate I'll need to have my laptop buried with me so I can continue the story from the other side of Mandos. *l0l*

What a good idea to have a conservatory atop that cold and snowy mountain. Between the bath and the clam-digging (which must surely have messed up his clothes again) and the tide coming in, poor Vorondil continues to have a very wet day.... “They were no longer in the conservatory, or at least he didn’t think so” -- Admittedly it’s a large and unusual conservatory. There are even deer, so why not a seashore too? 8-) I’m definitely disappointed that we didn’t get to see Finrod & co.’s reaction when Vorondil walked in with the bucket of clams. Also wondering how Vorondil felt about his prize after carrying them all the way down the mountain.... "It felt like home," he answered without thinking, yet it was a sincere response. Manwë nodded. "Thank you. That’s what I needed to hear." -- Yeah. Hopefully this will be the end of the worst of Vorondil’s fear. I read the “culumlada: orange tree” in your notes and my subconscious responded with “mermelada,” which is “marmalade” in Spanish. Somehow I don’t think Tolkien had that in mind.... Author Reply: I decided that there were some scenes I would not be writing simply because this story is getting to long and cumbersome. I suspect that Námo made sure that Vorondil was cleaned up from the clamming expedition before bringing him before Finrod again. I don't think even a Vala was ready to tax Finrod's patience that far. *grin* As for the clams... I'm sure Sador was happy enough to help share the burden of lugging them down the mountain to make up for what he had done to Vorondil. *grin* You read "culumalda" incorrectly (I even went back to see if *I* had misspelled it.) It's "culuma" (orange fruit) + "alda" (tree), but I can see how your mind would switch the letters to remind you of the Spanish.

"Now I know why Atar returned to Aman... and it had nothing to do with any Doom of Mandos." *ROFL* You know, Finrod could be right! Don’t envy Vorondil for the company of the two most intimidating Valar, even if the outcome was not what he had expected. But what Manwë said to Sador about him made sense – Vorondil is so immature and unsure of himself that he could take the teasing quite wrong, even though he watches the others teasing each other all the time. Well, if he dared to argue with Námo it can’t be too bad. And our dear Vorondil seems to have an issue with folding clothes *snicker* Author Reply: Vorndil's Judgment has opened a whole new can of worms for the Valar and they are not sure just how such a thing would affect someone who is still alive, so they have a vested interest in the ellon and want to ensure that he does not fall back into the darkness that twisted him in the first place. I suspect that Vorondil is wising up to Finrod's tricks and may realize that folding clothes is just "make work" to give him something to do as Finrod's thrall.
