Little plots--those of children indeed. Nice thought here.

Author Reply: Well children being children.... at least the adults around them sympathesize even as they nip the plots in the bud.

Finrod escorted her about while they were waiting for dinner -- More entertainment for the bored elves in the encampment.

Mithlas and Aldarion, who normally would have joined them -- Aldarion or Aldundil? Or am I just not understanding why Aldarion joining them would be “normal”?

"Tell me, Lindorillë, who your atar’s friends are." -- Oooh. I was wondering about that. Because either the Bad Guys are Súlimondil and Valacar (who are currently in custody -- though I have some ideas about how they could still wreak havoc), or the elflings’ parents are involved (they being essentially the only elves we’ve met who seem available to be BGs), or someone we’ve met who seems to be a Good Guy is actually a BG (and we’ve already had one fighter turn out to be a BG, so it shouldn’t be another swordsman; and no one else we’ve met seems likely) -- or you’ll have to introduce some new elves to be BGs. Or some combination thereof.

Dried apricot and ginger soup -- Oh, yum! I dunno about that “white broth,” though.... I now have 5 recipes, two of them cream soups (plus one for apricot cheese tarts). What kind of person would *center* the instructions for a recipe? I still feel cross-eyed.

A wonderful ensemble performance. Finrod may not be thrilled, but the Fëanturi should definitely show up unexpectedly more often.

Author Reply: Aldario is a close friend of both Ingwion and Glorfindel, while Aldundil, technically one of Finrod's vassal, would only be there with his wife. They are actually staying elsewhere in the encampment with the other Noldor.

Your reasoning about the BGs is leaving *me* cross-eyed. LOL

The soup is based on one from China. It is the last dish served when you order Peking Duck. They throw the duck bones into the soup, which is a white broth, but not actually a cream soup, as it's quite thin. I adapted it here by simply leaving out the bones (they make the soup without the bones and add the bones at the last minute before serving). The mushrooms in oyster sauce I've actually had here in China when I was in Xi'an and quite good too.

I really enjoyed this chapter a lot, though I'm a bit confused at Finrod's ire. *shrugs* Maybe if I had Valar showing up all the time, I'd be a little irate myself. And cold food is such a very BAD thing! Unless it's ice cream. And I was SO happy to see it was THESE two Valas... *wink*

I can't tell you how much I chuckled and chortled while reading this chapter, (which considering I printed it up and read it at work, got me all kinds of funny looks and people peering over my shoudler to see what was so amusing and then asking Who is ... and then they try to pronounce the names!! LOL!)

Taking the cake was Veryandur's hurt "everyone else got a talking to" *GRIN* Your elflings are so believeably children and I adore that as it is hard to write children in a believable manner. And Námo's response... *giggles* I have adored that Vala since I started reading your fics, but THAT was priceless and warmed my heart all over again! I think I acutally snorted... *grin*

But this... this is what left such a lasting impression on me:

---- Irmo raised an eyebrow and gave Finrod a measured look. "You will have to tell me how you do that, my son," he said.

"And what is that, my lord?" Finrod asked with mild amusement.

"Get them to love you." ----

I have sensed it all along but to see it put so blatantly nearly made me weep. The Valar just want to be loved like everyone else. It was touching to see it actually voiced by one of them, and Irmo especially. I could almost hear a wistful tone there.....

Another wonderful chapter, Fiondil!

Author Reply: I think Finrod is just getting tired of what he sees as interference with his household. The Valar were not responsible for having the elflings take oath to Finrod (not like their decision to make Vorondil Finrod's thrall for 30 years). That was totally Finrod's decision, so them taking an interest to the point of "ïnterrogating" them is sticking in Finrod's craw so to speak.

I try my best with making the children believably children and I have a friend with 5 kiddies who tell me that Veryandur reminds her of her 6-year-old in so many ways, so I guess I'm gettting them right.

Well, Námo had to come up with *something* with which to reprimand Veryandur, since the ellon was feeling left out. *LOL*

I'm sure the Valar would love to know Finrod's secret, though I doubt even Finrod really knows and perhaps even the ones who show him their love probably couldn't articulate exactly *why* they love him. I also suspect that most elves are a bit uneasy around the Valar and Maiar to one degree or another, so Irmo's question is a valid one. I can almost see the wistful look on both Irmo and Námo's faces, as well as hear it in Irmo's voice.

Somehow I get the feeling Finrod will be busy fighting off all these elves from Tol Eressëa who want him to be their king. To be honest, I do understand very well *why* he doesn’t want this job, but still, I am certain he would be a great leader to them.

Lindorillë’s parents are friends with Súlimondil and Valacar? Interesting, indeed – and it explains a lot. Finrod may not appreciate the Valar’s meddling in his affairs, but I am glad they showed this detail to everyone. I think it is something Finrod needs to know.

Did I mention before that I love Veryandur? ;-) He’s definitely my favourite of these five elflings in Finrod’s service!

plus it's hard to keep track with all these names that look and/or sound alike.*grin* Oh, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! Was sitting here more than once and thinking „I *know* this name, but who the heck was that?“ So when I was re-reading the whole fic some time ago, I made my own ‚Who’s who’ in the process and was surprised how fast it was growing to now two and a half page. But it helps immensely.

Author Reply: Finrod certainly is the logical choice for ruling the Tol Eressëans, since he's the only one of the kings of Beleriand who has been released from Mandos, but you're right that he has very good reasons for not wanting the job (for one thing, he already has one being Námo and Irmo's apprentice).

Yeah, Veryandur is very much my favorite elfling. I have a friend who says he reminds her of her own six-year-old.

A character list is being put together even as I write this (and for the other 2 WIPs). I will put it up as soon as possible. I probably should have done it earlier, but I never thought this story would turn out to be so long or complex. *grin*
