The Lion and his Lady  by Lialathuveril 6 Review(s)

ow, that was quite a different view of Lothiriel--rather sedate in her way, but patient with one who started out behaving like and idiot! Glad he straightened up for her. Obviously the staff realized she was a treasure before he did!

Author Reply: Yes, for me the fun about these little vignettes is to draw different Lothiriels and Eomers, without getting bogged down in a long tale. This one is rather rougher than usual and as you said, she's more reserved.

The start of this story was refreshing in that Eomer was a bit of a pain but very humorous and engaging as well. Loved their outburst in the hall! I could imagine what the others' faces must have looked like!

Author Reply: Hello Whitewave,
I wanted to portray a slightly different Eomer for once, one who is still struggling with the losses in his life, and is not exactly tactful about it. And I'm sure the scene in the hall was quite a sight!

Oh, what a lovely scenario. I love grumpy Eomer. The description of the scenery at the proposal site was very vivid. I could really see it in my mind.

Author Reply: LOL, in fact 'Grumpy Éomer' was my working title until I conceived of the one I used in the end. And thanks for your praise! I tend to put in too much dialogue and not enough description, as I find the first much easier to write.

This was wonderful!
A rocky start, yet they both have the chance to truly get to know one another, and real affection blooms.
Thank you for a well-wrought tale.

Author Reply: Yes, definitely a rocky start! But perhaps this makes them appreciate each other more than if they'd fallen in love at first sight. It's good to hear you enjoyed the story and thanks for reviewing!

I do like the assumptions made and the comedy of manners feel to his attempts to brush off yet another "ambitious lady" :) That she rises above it with such style much have provided a few irksome moments before he reassessed the situation.
These ficlets/vignettes/things are wonderful, with this one being my favourite (so far!).
Thank you, looking forward to more.

Author Reply: This started off as a serious fic, but descended into humour the moment I considered how he could put off prospective Queens of Rohan - and how he meets his match in Lothiriel, who doesn't even want to marry him.

There is one more oneshot to come, the longest one, but then I will unfortunately have to take a break for RL. I did start another story, but it shows signs of turning into a multi-chapter one, so I will have to see how that develops.

Thanks for reviewing!

This is absolutely delightful. Lothiriel, coming to the neglected Meduseld like a gush of wind, sweeping dirt and sadness out and healing Éomer with her sheer presence. A completely different take on one of my favorite LOTR-heroes (at least since I frequently read your tales) and a wonderful one to boot. Thank you!

Author Reply: I know this is a very different Eomer - I wanted to tackle the idea of him not so easily overcoming the many losses he has suffered in his life. If you think of it, he has lost his entire family except for Eowyn who has moved to Gondor.

But hopefully he will have a big and happy family with Lothiriel. After all Tolkien told us he was later known as Eomer Eadig.
