The image of Rosie taking a broom to Strider is just too amusing, LOL! But I hope Frodo-lad hasn't caught his death of cold, or gotten frostbite! Eek! Now to see about that welcome... Author Reply: I think I must've been influenced by Baggins Babe, and how her Rosie takes a dishcloth to all and sundry! But as you have seen, Frodo-lad is just fine.

That snowstorm sure sounds cold! I’m glad Strider was able to hear Frodo, but he really should have thought of the weather before setting out on such a venture. I suppose living in the comforts of a big city has taken some of the edge off the old Ranger. Hm, so first Estella would box his ears if not warned about Merry’s injury and now Rosie’s going to take a broom to him for getting Frodo in such a mess! Strider has more dangers now than he did on the Quest! After all, none of those orc were overprotective hobbit wives or mothers! Frodo’s recount of the Traveller’s remembrance of Caradhras was interesting. I imagine they would take painful steps to insure none of the children heard them talking about the more dangerous parts of the Quest or how scared they were during them. And Pippin’s comment about everyone being annoyed with Legolas was funny. The Elf was a bit of a showoff during that whole affair, wasn’t he? Author Reply: I'm not sure that Estella would box his ears or Rosie take a broom to him--but he has to admit, if they did, they would be perfectly justified, which of course is what makes them more dangerous, LOL! I think that perhaps, except for reading out of the Red Book, that most of the stories about the Quest would have been a bit bowdlerized, and that they'd leave out or play down the scariest parts in front of the children. But when they thought they were just among themselves, they'd have been more open. And Legolas was very irritating on Caradhras! I wanted to smack him myself, LOL!

I love this link between the quest and this snowstorm. Also, Srtider berating himself being rusty! However, snowstorms can be very unpredictable. Author Reply: It seemed to me that after the Quest, any snowstorm--at least for the Travellers and their families--was going to be compared to Caradhras!! And Strider would be feeling rather rueful--years spent in the South may have blunted his weather-sense a bit, and he would feel badly about getting young Frodo-lad out in such a storm.

Well, hello! Here I am, minus the tea and biscuits, but bright-eyed and bushy-tailed after a three-hour kip. :-) I am so enjoying this lovely tale; it's so warm and inviting. I think I've used that to describe this story before, but it's so true. LOL, reading about the cold part made me feel as if I was travelling up Caradhras! Now...to see if the king and page are welcome visitors... Author Reply: Hello! I'm glad you find it warm and inviting in spite of the shivery cold I describe, LOL!

Aragorn seems to have made a mistake with this little outing, getting caught in the snow storm. Well, Rangers are not infallible, even when they are King now! Glad he at least found the straight way to this shed; poor Frodo-Lad is not used to be out in this weather, I fear. And the lad has to make two steps where Aragorn makes one, I think - rather tiring after a while. Author Reply: Poor Aragorn! He is a bit rusty, isn't he? (And also, the evol author needed them to get caught in the snow storm, LOL!) I'm sure poor young Frodo was very tired by the time they arrived!

I love the idea of Rose taking a broomstick to the King! Perhaps she will reach for the dreaded tea towel as well! I imagine the Travellers never spoke of the worst parts of the journey in front of the children - rather like soldiers. My father never spoke of the worst experiences during WW2 but I always had the idea that some of it was too horrible to dwell on. I love the way Aragorn treats Frodo-lad and I like the fact that he is known as Uncle Strider. Hope you received the notification of my latest Yule story. I don't know where they go sometimes. Author Reply: Perhaps! giggle I thought of your tea towel when I wrote that part! LOL! You are right--I'm sure they would talk of the "pleasant" parts--being with their friends, and so forth, but the worst parts they would keep to themselves for the most part. Of course there was the Red Book. But reading it rather than hearing it puts it at a distance... I just have this idea that Aragorn may have encouraged that "Uncle Strider" in earlier years. I'm woefully behind in my reading of new fic and stories, what with holiday deadlines on writing I've had to do! But I'm hoping to catch up on New Year's Day!

Still a joy to read, Dreamflower! I love Frodo-lad getting to hear some of the more serious talk about the Quest, and I'm so glad Uncle Strider heard him call out. MEWD Author Reply: I think most of the time, the Travellers would not have wanted to discuss the more frightening parts of their journey with the children--reading in the Red Book was one thing, but I don't think they would have wanted the children to realize how bad it was, really. There's no doubt Uncle Strider would hear him, even with all the wind.

Aragorn is just lovely here.I'll be interested to see if he turns out to know the poor man. Another lovely chapter, I'm enjoying this. Author Reply: Well, Aragorn is just lovely, anyway, but I'm glad you like how I'm portraying him. And I hope you will like the backstory I have for the poor man.

At least they made it! And being an old Ranger waystation it ought to be properly made and snug. Now, to find out who's inside. Bill Ferny? Harry Goatleaf? Radagast? A former Ranger? A certain beekeeper? Heh! Author Reply: Yes, they made it! You will soon find out--I hope that you will appreciate the revelation.
