| I love the image of the elves, whom we always associate as being much more elegant than we, sprawled on the grass! I also love Elrond's wisdom in dealing with the hobbits need to heal; overall hobbits love company, good food, near elegant living (for farm folk) and good company. A library is full of tales and stories to share and if a hobbit can't love that he can at least love the crowd of strange folk coming to read these books. And how clever of Elrond to make them in a language that some of these Tol Eressea elves cannot read! Just brilliant and heart warming at the same time. Author Reply: Oh my, thank you. | This library is an utterly delightful idea and it also makes perfect sense, both psychologically (Elrond thinking of this as a way to help Frodo and Bilbo settle) and practically, since one indeed couldn't imagine Elrond abandoning all his books. | This is partly why I love Frodo - a bookworm like I wish I had more time to be. I live right behind the library too! I love that the first look we have of him in the films is that he is reading. I love him for so much more, but his joy at surrounded by books is so me - I love having him as a kindred spirit. I can't remember who said something like, "I imagine paradise to be a kind of library". I hope to one day find him among those aisles. | Oh, I love this. You addressed one of my puzzling questions about this notion of a peaceful heaven for the elves and whoever is allowed to go there, where everything seems to be provided for. What in all the world are they going to do? Opening a library with texts from ME is a great idea. Author Reply: What in all the world are they going to do? Thank you! | And being someone who lives for libraries (and bookstores), I can totally agree with the last sentiment. LOL Lovely little vingnette, Shirebound. Love the deviousness of Lord Elrond. He is more than a healer of hröar but of fëar as well. I bet he purposely brought books written in Westron just so Bilbo could open his school. I suspect some of the elves who sailed with the Hobbits and know Westron will end up becoming teachers themselves with Bilbo as the headmaster and Frodo as the librarian asking the 'students' if they have a library card. LOL Looking forward to seeing these tales continue. Author Reply: Thank you, Fiondil. Healing takes place on many levels, and Elrond had a lot of time to contemplate this trip West and its consequences -- not just on the hobbits, but on the residents to whom these small folk would be quite unusual neighbors. | |

| LOVELY! I love old books, libraries and elves, so what a wonderful combination! I also appreciate that Elrond was thoughtful enough to allow Bilbo and Frodo to keep the books nearby, they need the attention. Thank you for this delightful scene.
