Rereading this and wondering what the Valar thought when they finally meet Frodo and Bilbo, also who sang them into existance? Yes, yes, I know, as if you need any more bunnies! Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Oh I'm sure Ilúvatar had a hand with the Hobbits. A little surprise for everyone. *grin* And no, I do not need any more plot bunnies, thank you very much. Namo! Put that bunny down... slowly. *sigh*

Wow! You certainly put a lot into this one... I loved all of it - dear Gil-galad's a little unusual to 'see' as a child-like being... glad Namo finally let him out :-) And I loved the reunion - I'm glad he was able to let his anger go.... Author Reply: I thought it would be interesting to see Gil-galad after his death and the consequences thereof. I'm glad you liked the reunion. Thanks for reviewing.

This is great. I love it. So Elrond not only found his wife, but also his king when he arrived in Valinor. Ereinion should not be too hard on Elrond Author Reply: As Olorin says, there's more than one way to keep a promise and as Namo told Boromir in another context, Eru draws straight with crooked lines. Glad you liked this. Thanks for reviewing. Very nice story of one of my favorite characters! I don't know why Gil-Galad is such a favorite of mine, but he is. :) I guess it's because of fan-fiction. Nilmandra's and Nemis's stories mostly. Anyway, I enjoyed this glimpse of him. It must have been shocking for him to return to life and find out that Sauron was still alive, your sacrifice worth nothing. That would be hard to swallow. Nicely done! Author Reply: Hi Radbooks. Gil-galad is a hard character to pin down because so little is known or said about him, but he is an intriguing character nonetheless. Perhaps someday I might write more about him. I'm sure it as a shock to learn that all he had struggled for and died for presumably was for nothing, but in the end it did work out and that's the important thing. Glad you enjoyed this story. And another wonderful piece of gap filler for your Valar series. I'm not a big fan of Gil-galad, but you made me like him more. I really enjoyed he and Celebrian's arm wrestling over who gets to kill Elrond. LOL! Great ficlet! Author Reply: There really isn't all that much about Gil-galad anywhere in Tolkien, so I can understand why you might not find him interesting as a character. I'm glad that I was able to flesh him out enough even in so short a piece that you find him attractive. Thanks for reviewing.

Interesting to view this from Gil-Galad's perspective, Elrond did the best he could, short of throwing Isildur into Orodruin, guarding and guiding his heirs until the Ring could be distroyed, even though it wasn't one of his heirs who did it in the end! As long as it was gone, who cares how or who did the deed! Any chance of a tale of Celebrian's healing? More please, Lynda Author Reply: Thanks Lynda. I'm gload you found this an interesting tale. As for a tale about Celebrían's healing... that's more up to the muse than to me, but you never know.

I really liked this. Ereinion is such a joy to read about. You make very interesting. Also, in the author's note at the bottom, Orodreth is the son of Angrod, not Aegnor. Thanks for writing! Author Reply: Thanks Alquawende. I'm glad you liked this. And thanks for the correction. I get those two names mixed up all the time.

This just made me smile. For all that we know from canon about Gil-galad is contained in just a few lines with nothing of his actual character, you bring him to life as a fully formed person who I'm glad to "meet" and identify with. I get the impression that he is somewhat ashamed of the way he feels when he finds out that Elrond had been unable to get Isildur to cast the Ring into the fires of Mt. Doom--after all the work and terror and death, to find that it seemed in vain and the evil one had been battling was still alive and growing in power must have been awful for him. To feel disappointment is a normal emotion, but it is hard to deal with feeling disappointment in a person one loves--and it's very easy to feel guilty about it. I did laugh about the arm-wrestling comment in regards to "I get to kill him first" with Celebrian and Finrod. But the very best part was "Well, it certainly took you long enough" when Elrond, who also probably agonized over not being able to keep the promise realized that he was forgiven. And saying hello to Olorin once more--even if he didn't look the same as when the Maia had bid Ereinion farewell--that's a hug I'd like to experience myself! :) Well done! Author Reply: Thanks, Rhyselle. There really is very little in canon about Gil-galad and his personality, so I'm glad you thought I brought him to life as a fully formed person even in such a short tale. I'm sure Gil-galad was feeling all kinds of conflicting emotions on that quay waiting for the ship to arrive, but when it came down to it, and Elrond was standing before him, probably looking equally nervous, the love Gil-galad had for Elrond won out and Gil-galad's "Well, it certainly took you long enough" was his way of expressing his forgiveness to Elrond for not being able to keep the promise exactly as he had hoped. And I wouldn't mind a hug from Olórin, whatever his guise, myself. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

"I get to kill him first"? Funny! And that he might be amongst the first Frodo and Bilbo should see on their arrival is very appropriate, I suppose! And we all rejoice to see the vow kept. "His hand was hot as a glede--and so it was that Gil-galad died...." As best I remember without pulling down FOTR. Being burned to death from grappling the ultimate Balrog.... Shuddering! Author Reply: Yes, the vow was kept even if not the way Gil-galad or anyone else thought it might be. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Gil-Galad had to feel let down after learning Isildur hadn't destroyed the Ring; but this promise he asked of Elrond wasn't entirely fair, either. Elrond could have forced Isildur only by killing him, and that was out of the question. But Olórin was right, there is more than one way to keep this promise. After all, it was Elrond who formed the Fellowship ... The illumination to the hymn must have been great! And I find it touching that Gil-Galad honoured his Peredhil and Human friends with it. I'd love to read more about these reunions at the end of the TA in your universe, to be honest. There were so many of them! This one was lovely, Fiondil. What a joy for both of them that Gil-Galad could be there when Elrond arrived! And I am sure the Hobbits were impressed to meet him, too. Author Reply: Gil-galad of course expected the Ring to be destroyed then and there, but it didn't happen, so naturally he feels disappointed and thinking that it was all for nothing, but these things have a way of wroking themselves out in the end, and even if Elrond did not specifically see to it that Ring was destroyed he did provide for Isildur's heirs and he did form the Fellowship. He kept his promise as best he could and that's all that matters. I'm glad you enjoyed this tale, Kitty. Whether or not I write any more "reunion" stories is totally up to the muse, but we'll see. There is one such story in particular I am hoping to write, but it'll have to wait until other stories are written first. Thanks for reviewing.
