Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)

This is absolutely horrible. I cannot believe that Finrod and Glorfindel will never return home, but will live in limbo forever. Eru just would not do that to them. This is most stressful for me

Tari

Author Reply: Well you know for a fact that that won't happen since we all know that Glorfindel returns to Middle-earth at some point in the future. Don't worry, Atar won't allow them to languish there fro too long.

Poor Glorfy!

Author Reply: Yes, poor Glorfy and Finda.

They aren't trusting Atar enough at the moment, I fear. They'll soon learn, I think. From knowledge of future times we know they DID make it home! Heh!

Author Reply: Trust is always fragile and when things get scary it's sometimes hard to remember that trust, but as you say, they will soon learn and of course we all know that they DID make it home. *grin* The question of course is, how?

To have them falling out of the tree at the beginning is mean. And on their amour nonetheless. Poor elves. But why where they sleeping in a tree in the first place? Aren´t Noldor not normally prefering the ground?

I think Finrod is glad that he sits in a chair and not on a tree when Namo tells him the Valar can´t bring them back. I still have this picture of a Valarian Pizza-Taxi in my head. But at the moment they propably need calming droughts more than food. Or some strong drink.

It is easy to forget how short it was, since Glorfindel has been released from Mandos when you see him acting for example at the tournamet or during the trials. So I guess his reaction could have been worse.

I´m still wondering why they have been transported to the 10th dimension. Does we get some answer to that?

By the way, has someone ever told you that one week can be very, very long when you are waiting for a new chapter after a clivhanger?

Author Reply: They may be Noldor but they're elves and they interacted with Dindar long enough to appreciate sleeping in a tree where it might be safer if you don't know the territory.

As for Glorfindel's reactions... more of that will be explained in the next chapter as will the question of why they were transported to the 10th dimension.

And waiting one week for an update... be thankful it isn't one month!

Incredible, disconcerting chapter... for your readers as well as our two beloved Elves!

I was surprised at Glorfindel's reactions. Very surprised. I thought, at first, that it had something to do with being in the 10th dimension, but I see now it is his immaturity. Ah well. Poor thing!

It all brings to mind Namo's abduction and torture at the hands of Melkor. I truly hope his own experiences will help him at least comfort these two if the Valar themselves cannot bring them home.

What a horrid experience. Poor Finrod. What on earth will Glorfindel think as he turns to discover his liege lord crumpled and unconscious.

Phew! Hope the next chapter comes quickly - though what hope is that??? The next chapter will probably be a cliff-hanger too! Viscious, nasty author!!!

Author Reply: The tenth dimension can be a bit disconcerting for all. I'm sure Námo will do his best to provide them with all the comfort and assurances they need, provided they ask for it, which in Glorfindel's case might be problematic. And actually Finrod isn't Glorfindel's liege lord (that honor belongs solely to Turgon) but they are gwedyr and muindyr and so he will naturally be upset to see that he's fainted.

The next chapter will come quickly enough and whether it's a cliffhanger or not, you know you'll love it and will come back for more. LOL Thanks for reviewing.

Hmmm...a song of power to get them into the 10th dimension, and it will probably take another to get them out...meanwhile, one has to wonder if time passes differently in this place than it does in Arda proper (I'm thinking of another little jewel you posted on the HA site) and a plausible way of filling up the rather large amount of time that must pass before Glor goes to Endor...pure speculation on my part, lol...I love a good mystery! Once again, very well done! To answer a question you asked that I never seemed to have gotten around to answering about my number of read-throughs on EI 1, four. I am somewhat attached to the subtleties and undercurrents. BTW, what/where is/are Leaf and Stone, and GoI?

Cat

Author Reply: Hi Cat. Glad you liked this chapter. I don't think time runs too differently in the 10th dimension from Aman proper though you never know. Even the Valar are unsure about why the tenth dimension exists as it does, only that it does.

Leaf and Stone is a Yahoo group dedicated primarily to friendship fics about Legolas and Gimli. NiRi runs it. GoI (Garden of Ithilien) is another LOTR site but I've never been to it. Again, NiRi is the one to ask about it. I really don't do Legolas-Gimli fics (at least not as a rule) but the restriction to writing Legolas-Gimli friendship stories is waived for the Tolkien Tango prompts so I like to write fics for those and post them here under Fiondil's Tapestry.

So you've read EI 1 four times, huh? I'm impressed. And you especially like reading it for the subtleties and undercurrents. Well, I'm sure you'll enjoy EI 2 even more, then. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

That beginning was hilarious - I can almost hear the clanging and banging going on as they fall right into their armour!

Glorfindel acting like an elfling - I wonder if he remembers that when two little twin elflings come along in Imladris?! Poor thing though. I'm sure he's scared - especially as he thinks they are on their own in all this.

Finrod fainting! Now we know they are in trouble!

I have the feeling this is some sort of test for the two of them? I can't wait to find out how they get home and the journey they take along the way.

Ces

Author Reply: I thought the beginning was rather funny myself, especially when Finrod starts swearing in Dwarvish. *grin* I'm sure Glorfindel will remmember his second 'elflinghood' when dealing with two little twin elflings and later their sister.

Both Glorfindel and Finrod are scared, though Finrod is handling it better because he has finally achieved the same level of maturity as he had prior to his death. Still, the shock and uncertainty of their situation is finally catching up with him, hence his fainting.

And I suspect that this is a test for others as well, not just for Finrod and Glorfindel. As to how they finally get home.... you'll have to wait and see. *grin*

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks for reviewing.

Poor Glorfindel, that was the last strain, wasn't it? He's obviously still not mature enough to cope with all this in dignity.

Finrod fainted?? NOW we know it is really bad! I'm rather curious how the Valar will bring them back, to say the least ...

Happy Easter!

Author Reply: I think the strain is finally catching up with Finrod and the final straw was the thought that they might never get back again if the Valar themeselves cannot do it. Glorfindel, of course, is still operating on the emotional level of a 12 year old human so it's no wonder he's acting as he is.

Nieriel RainaReviewed Chapter: 2 on 3/24/2008
To quote a certain 11 year old I know... YOU ARE EVIL!!!

Evil, evil, evil! And cruel too! And you're enjoying every minute of it, aren't you? Don't answer that. *grin*

Fabulous chapter. Namo's aloofness gave me chills, but remembering just who brought those two there helps me to remember they'll be just fine. *smile* I am curious just HOW they will eventually get home, since we know they must, but I am enjoying every second of the waiting to find out too.

Can't wait to see what happens next. Hopefully by then, I'll actually have a desk so I don't have to try to type on my knees. I've tried that gesturing thing the Valar do, but to no avail. sighs

Great chapter!

NiRi

PS...I have decided you need to design my new wardrobe if you won't let me steal Namo's. *grin*

Author Reply: Yes, I'm evil and proud of it! LOL Námo's aloofness is more for effect than anything else. He knows that neither he nor any of the Valar even acting collectively have the power to return Finrod and Glorfindel to Aman proper, so he's distancing himself emotionally knowing what the likely reaction of the two elves is going to be when he tells them.

Anyway, there's nothing stopping you from making your own wardrobe you know. You don't need to steal Námo's and I refuse to design it for you. *sticks out tongue*.

These first few chapters are purposely short because that's how the muse insisted I write them. As the story progresses the chapters will become longer and more detailed. I'm glad you are enjoying the story so far. Thanks for reviewing.

Namo- that wasn't very nice. Of course, I understand that they need to find the answers for themselves- there is a reason that Eru took them there, most likely to find some healing, so they need to accomplish that before they get home, but Namo is being a bit more dark than usual. It is interesting how Glorfindel's childlike qualities are magnified here. I enjoyed everything, and look forward to more.

Author Reply: Actually, I think Námo is enjoying the situation just a little too much. *grin* We will learn in the next chapter why Glorfindel is acting the way he is. I'm glad you are enjoying this so far. Thanks for reviewing.
