This is more a drive-by question rather than a thorough review: Am I reading this correct that the oath that so influences Glorfindel's behaviour isn't an oath he swore to Turgon as an especially loyal liege? That there is another one, a more consequential (and more personal/specific) one? And if so, will you elaborate on this in the near future (if you haven't already in the already published chapters, that is)? It just feels like in this chapter they discuss this possibility, then get sidetracked, and then let the whole matter fall by the side. Is this intentional on the Valar's side? So far, these chapters feel like a set-up for a giant story to come, and has me intrigued. I have to admit it's a little frustrating to read in reviews that your story concerning Ingwion and the Darkening will not be forthcoming for some time when you strew such provoking hints into this epic. That's a more aggravating (Lol) variation on some of the eeeevil cliffhangers you have already provided your poor readers with! Author Reply: Yes, this is not the Life Oath that is mentioned here, but a personal and indeed private oath that Glorfindel swore to himself and it was that oath that was driving him. It really isn't discussed any further than it is here, since, as Manwë and Námo point out, that oath should have ceased to have any relevance once Glorfindel died. It was really just his own stubbornness that caused the oath to manifest itself the way it did and was the reason for the actions the Valar took when they were re-embodying him. Naturally I am setting up a story here *grin* and unfortunately it takes time and many chapters to do so, so please be patient. The story of the Darkening is being written, I assure you, but I do not want to start posting it too soon as there would be plot spoilers. I have to wait until Elf, Interrupted is finished, or nearly so. Hopefully, I will begin posting the Darkening story before the end of the year. As for the hints... well, they are meant to whet your appetite for the future story. *grin*

Excellent chapter!!! I loved G's telling - 'Finda ran away' - good grief is friendship not sacred - but it made me really chuckle. Poor Finrod does not look the friend he really is... I loved how he dropped his wine... good grief is wine not precious - but again it made me giggle. I loved how G leaned against the Elder King's legs... very nice touch. Poor Finrod's 'I would have ended up strangling you,' is quite correct... any amount of whining... even from a loved one - can drive a poor soul to drink... what am I saying... he dropped his goblet :-) And G's counter to that was quite fun... I liked that Olorin's tone was respectful... I was a wee bit concerned for a moment. I loved the screaming line - imagined crimes my foot! I absolutely ROTFL with Eonwe's 'running out of pages' and Manwe's 'we can only hope!' Such fun moments in the midst of this really difficult time. I'm glad the Valar are keeping a sense of humor! I loved Manwe's 'communion' with Eru. Very nice. I find G's nightmares to be horrendous... and five times - truly a dedicated, loyal Elf... bless his little heart! Nay! Bless his big heart! And his righteous anger at the irrelevant remark! I'm very glad Eru stepped in - someone had to! I loved Finrod's support of G's anger, but also his staying it for the moment. 'castigate all the Valar on your behald' - what an awesome moment and a great line!!! I had to 'aw' after reading it. I loved the whole pendant thingee do - very interesting concept with Aule... and Finrod's again support, comfort, and courage to face this newest challenge 'together.' Nice indeed. Again - excellent chapter. Author Reply: Good grief! I can't believe I didn't reply to this review, Agape. I'm re-reading EI-2 and cleaning up minor errors and such and re-reading some of the reviews for fun and came across this one. Sorry about that. Don't know why or how I managed NOT to respond to it. *Headdesk* Anyway, I'm glad you found a lot in this chapter to make you grin and that you found it such an excellent chapter. Thanks for reviewing and I apologize for taking so long to respond to it. Mea culpa.

Hm, think this raises more questions than it answers! Glorfindal does seem to have regressed a lot, what he is going through is not helping him either. Poor Elfling, one just wants to give him a cuddle and tuck him into bed with a stuffed toy and sing him Namo's lullaby! Finda needs a hug and an axe to chop some fire wood before he strangles Glorfi! That or a stiff drink! Eonwe is going to need a whole volume for Glorfindal at this rate! Let's hope the pendant holds the key to the way back, they need to be home! More please, Lynda Author Reply: That just about sums up the entire scenario. LOL We'll see how they get home soon enough. Thnaks for reviewing.

Finally a moment! And now the blocks are off, and memories can be retrieved. Oaths need to be reexamined and love fulfilled. Love Eonwe "needing" to bind a new book just for Glorfindel's oaths! Author Reply: Now that the blocks are down (more or less since he still cannot see Eärendil's star), Glorfindel will be driven to find some answers (hence the title of this book). Whether he finds them in truth or is satisfied with what he finds remains to be seen. Eönwë is quite the character, isn't he? Hee!

Isn’t that the case with all children? You can only teach them so much. The rest they have to lean by trial and error. It looks like the Elves are not all that different from men in some respects. Glorfindel’s meeting with Iluvatar was an extremely rare occurrence. He must be a very special Elf indeed. I am most interested in finding out how they get back to their home. Tari Author Reply: We learn best by experience. Our mistakes are the only things we can truly call our own. And Elves, being created beings, just like Mortals (and Valar), are not perfect and so must learn by trial and error like the rest of us. We will see how they finally get home very soon.

Did I mention that I love your Eönwë? So he needs to bind another book nearly exclusively because of Glorfindel? *LOL* That is why I love your Valar and Maiar – they are no remote, intimidating Gods, but rather ‚human’ and have so much humour. Ah, finally we (and poor Glorfindel) got to know what exactly the Valar did and why. Hm ... to a certain degree it is understandable that they tried to protect Glorfindel from himself and his memories, though I am still not entirely happy with it. But it is really fascinating that he woke five times when he shouldn’t have and made this door reappear. No wonder the Valar are so often wrong with their predictions what he will do next when he is *that* unusual! It will be interesting to watch the repercussions of all this; personally I’d love for Glorfindel to meet Eärendil. But Manwë and Finrod are right; first they have to concentrate on getting back to Aman proper. And now I’ll be busy pondering of which use this pendant may be. I have an inkling how Beleg may help them, and now I have to fit the pendant into my theory ;) Can’t wait for the next chapter, as usual! Author Reply: I could never imagine the Valar and Maiar as remote semi-divine beings who use Elves and Mortals as playthings for their amusement. So I wrote them the way I hope they truly are... though still maintaining their 'otherness' from us Incarnates. Glorfindel is unusual in many ways and while the Valar's solution was not without its problems it was the best they could come with at the time. Even they admit that Atar was not entirely happy with their decision but neither did ne explicity forbid it, probably knowing that ultimately the barriers would prove useless. What the ramifications of all this is will be the primary (though not exclusive) focus of the rest of the story, or at least that part of it dealing with Glorfindel. We will see very soon just what properties the pendant has and how it and Beleg will help to see these two ellyn home. Thanks for reviewing, I really appreciate it.

taking his chair with him I suddenly can see Namo taking his chair with him everywhere. *Grin* Great chapter, Fiondil! LOVED Eonwe's comment for Glorfindel. This just gets better and better. NiRi Author Reply: It's his favorite chair, too. LOL Thanks, NiRi. I'm glad you emjoyed the chapter. Eönwë just breaks me up. I might have to devote a whole chapter to him some day. *grin*

Glorfindel really is having a hard time of it, isn't he? On top of the fact that he has to deal with being in a place he knows absolutely nothing, he's hit with the fact that his memories have been suppressed. But now he and Finrod can concentrate on getting home. What secret does the necklace hold I wonder? Enquiring minds want to know! Eönwë becomes more of a favorite with each chapter he appears in. I'm quite sure his he needed a new book once Elladan and Elrohir made their appearance! No rest for the weary there! Ces Author Reply: Glorfindel has had it rough but what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. We'll find out shortly what powers the pendant possesses. As for Eönwë... I'm sure he had a whole separate volume made just for the Elrondionnath. LOL

Brilliant chapter, meldonya!! Of course, you're ALWAYS brilliant so that's nothing new. But now I want to know about that pendant...And I want to know how the elflings, Vorondil and Aldundil, and Ingwion's...otornesse, is that what you called it? are all doing!!! *giggle* It'll take a long time to go back and forth between them all but that just means many more wonderful chapters to read, so I don't really mind! *grin* ~Kaylee!! *who will give a more thorough review when she's not being called to go to dinner by an irate naneth and tithen muinthel* Author Reply: Thanks, Kaylee. We'll learn about all of that soon enough... sooner than you think... so you needn't think this will be dragged out for too long. I want Finrod and Glorfindel back where they belong so we can get the story moving again. LOL
