This was a lovely chapter--I think I was always a little intimidated by Elrond myself (in my imagination??), so I loved the scene between him and Pippin--it was so *comforting*. And it's so good to see Pippin acting his old self, racing Merry. I'm glad I stopped by after not reading fics for a while--and I'll definitely be back. I'm very curious to read what happens when Pippin returns to the Shire! Keep up the good work, Pearl and Golden! Author Reply: Hi storyfish! I'm glad you stopped by too :-) I'm so glad you found this chapter comforting. I felt there was a lot about Elrond that Peter Jackson got right, most of all that he comes across as intimidating and sometimes hard to read - and I loved that he had him smile at the end when Aragorn and Arwen are at last together. We are so glad you are enjoying this story and thank you for wanting to read what is to come. Thank you so much :-)

Meant to write this days ago... sorry for the delay for the chapter was wondrous! Right from the beginning, I was saddened by the Hobbit's atypical behavior. So much of what they had once been, gone, lost after the Quest's hard journey. And that Merry is so justifiably worried for Pippin as he ponders what will happen when they reach the Shire. He saw how folks respond to Bilbo and Bilbo never ever had such a problem as our dear Pip does.... *heavy sigh* It was extremely interesting that they were all dreaming (so to speak) of what Pip yelled out... and what was happening in the Shire as they slept. I loved Frodo taking charge in the middle of the night to help them all get rid of their anxieties and talk out the situation so they could sleep. Sadly funny. Pippin's sarcasm about the 'eager' replies was sweet - he kept his cool in the face of wondering what on earth he'd done that kept his cousins so close-mouthed. I had to 'aw' when you termed Pip as Merry's former shadow... and Merry's pride in the change. Though such a hard way to grow up. Shees! Good old Sam - I delighted in the book how Frodo came to see so many different aspects of Sam - and here is another one. Loved his courage and his determination to 'remember' and tell them exactly what Pip said. For Pippin's sake! Pip's response to the food question from Elladan was priceless! I loved the music part - it somehow reminded me of the building of Middle-earth by the Valar - to think Pip is becoming a part of that song in a real way... very nice indeed. And I loved that the music was easily retained. Some small measure of comfort for the lad! The small enclave of Elrond and Celeborn and Galadriel in the dark nights was beautiful and I felt glad that Pip was able to get some comfort from that too! I loved Pip's astonishment when Elrond told him 'it' was a gift. Bless Elrond's heart - and that should help calm Pip's heart a wee bit - and hopefully he shares this with Merry - who definitely needs a little comfort too as he prepares to protect and defend his young cousin! *sobs* Three 'aw's in one story - shees! When Elrond is pleased at Pip's frustration. Very nice understanding! I was ROTFL when Merry 'heard' Pip's tone. Bless his poor heart... he's going to have his hands full taking care of the fun-loving Hobbit. Thankfully, it sounds like the old Pip (with a smattering of good sense) is coming back! Excellent ending with Elrond and Pippin sharing so much. Perhaps Merry will take Pippin back to the Last Homely House a couple times before the Elves leave. I think it would do Pip a world of good... Bless you for taking me on this delightful trip. Can't wait for the next part! Bilbo!!! Author Reply: My goodness! I'm floored - you've written a chapter here. So kind of you to write so much, Agape. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. The Hobbits had a lot to deal with in this story, that's for sure. It has been interesting to see these conditions through their eyes. I think we'll have to delve into Merry a bit more deeply somewhere along the way, he is having a struggle with all of this. And it would be good for them to make a trip or two to Rivendell . . . we'll see what happens. Sam is deep and fun to write :-) Thank you for your blessing and for finding our story delightful :-)

What a revealing chapter. I so enjoyed this! I think Pippin is really starting to think very deeply about everything that's happened, and maybe even come to some sort of uneasy acceptance of at least some of it. I love his daring in this particular scene: “Admit it Merry, it was fun.” Pippin said without looking at his cousin. “I . . . yelled at . . . you to stop.” “I didn’t hear you, though I wouldn’t have stopped even if I had.” “I thought as much.” Merry paused to take another deep breath. “Yes, it was fun.” “And fun, my dear Meriadoc, is important. It lightens the spirit and improves the circulation. Quit staring at me and look at the view.” I hope Pip will always find ways to have fun in spite of all the hardships. To me, that is the true essence of his character. So well done, ladies! Bravo!!! Author Reply: Thank you so much, Cathleen! We're glad you like Pippin's pluck. I feel he would be that way; not the sort to give up or be overwhelmed. We're so glad that you enjoyed the chapter!

I just dont know how to play it. but I loved that last part when they were talking about Pippin first learning how to play fiddle. thats what inspires me about him. he sounds so GLOMPABLE

I, too, had a hunch that Pippin must have had odd feelings toward Elrond after the Quest, as he was so set against Pippin joining the Company. Nothing hateful, just odd. I think you brought out those feelings wonderfully and resolved the situation eloquently. :-) I'm glad Elrond has now become a close confidante to the lad. All of this chapter was excellent; Pippin and music always mixes exceptionally well! But my favourite scene was of Pippin racing Merry to the edge of the moor and then watching them view the Last Homely House at last was heart-stirring for me. I would have kissed the ground, lol. Excellent as always! Author Reply: Thank you dear Pippinfan! Again, I hope Golden checks these out - that ending scene was her idea, though she did say she really liked how I wrote it up. Yes, I always felt there would be some awkwardness between Pippin and Elrond for that reason, but also that Pippin would find a way to get past it. Thank you so much, m'dear! :-)

Ok, that clears up the confusion. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time and I keep trying to figure it out. I always forget about it until I read another chapter in this lovely story. The last chapter in this story makes me want to take up Fiddle... well really alot of things make me want to take up Fiddle. but Pippin's will to get better and overcome his illness make me seriously want to take up Fiddle and auctually learn it Author Reply: Glad to help, pippinsgirl :-) Why is it making you want to learn fiddle as he is playing harp at this point? He will eventually be trying fiddle though :-) I'm a fiddler - you really should try it, it is a lot of fun! Thanks again for reading and responding!

I'm right proud of our dear Pippin! He overcame his shyness and talked to Lord Elrond, which proved to be the best he could do. Elrond will teach him how to interpret his visions and how he can use them to help his people. Those visions are a gift indeed. He will be a great Thain when the time comes :) Last but not least, I liked the picture of Sunshine curled up at Pippin's feet with a smile on her face. Author Reply: Thank you so much Andrea :-) The wee bit with Sunshine was Golden's, so I hope she reads this! So glad you enjoyed the chapter. Pippin is a stalwart lad, he's going to be fine in the long run :)
